  • Hi guys I would like some help please for those who program in java and use Eclipse. I am a new programmer and my eclipse doesn't understand the "println instruction" it only understands System.out.println(") could someone please help me ???

  • @mzprontissimo stanford eclipse is modified to teach java much easier. system.out.println is correct from you ide.

  • @warnexus i dont understand i have downloaded stanford eclipse and it wouldnt work... does it have to do with the java version installed on my computer??? thank you.

  • @mzprontissimo standford is using a library provided by the acm. google search acm.jar . then go to the first link to get the home page. you will see a download section that says acm.jar . download that and then i can tell you the next step on importing the jar into eclipse just to make the step by step process much easier for you to understand

  • @warnexus hey !!! ok so it is done... now what next ???

  • We enjoyed the journey! (All 36,303 of us, at time of writing) =) THANKS MEHRAN!

  • Mehran, in case you read this. Thank you very much! =)

  • I'm currently a CS major at a public uni, and I can say that my first course was basically my first year of it in hs in one semester.

  • Notice how as you go along the views got less and so did the dislikes, therefore everyone who watched this, congratulations on being smarter than everybody else. :D

    ^ called my self smart , boosting my spirits xD

  • I want to be his student!

  • im in lecture 2 ... When will i reach this :( i want to do an ios app sooo bad

  • @selimdridi Learn objective-c, also to create apps you must have a apple computer with intel. It's also like $100 on top of that to submit an app to the app store. Good luck!

  • @ItsMattyWattam Thnx i will do exactly what u said

  • wow a Zelda game. That guy is awesome

  • Mehran Sahami is one cool nerd, thanks for this open course, peace Y

  • Thanks a lot for this course! Mehran rocks :)

  • This class looks like a watered down course of CS I and CS II at my highschool tbh

  • @Rowadon123456 wtf is ur hs doing teachin it? lol wish mine did

  • @Rowadon123456 No one believes you, liar.

  • I did enjoy the journey of cs106a, thank you very much Mehran Sahami and the gang! Thank you so much!!!

  • I wanna dislike this video for being the last one ... i wiil really miss the great teacher

  • Thanks Mehran, Thanks Stanford, Thanks Youtube ... was a great series..

  • it was such a wonderful plethora of knowledge and information and i'm beginning to understand how game are made now

  • Thank you, Stanford!

  • Thank you very much! I will miss you greatly!

    This is the first time in my life I feel as if I've just watched the last episode of a great TV series (whether it be drama, movie etc) after watching a lecture. This was my first programming lecture and the whole series helped me literally shape my dream as I hope to become a game maker in the future. Again, I can't thank enough for both Stanford and Mehran and hope to return the favor someday.

    Now on to CS106B!

  • Thanks a lot Mehran! You are really great!

  • Thank you Stanford for posting this Lectures. And most important i want to thank Mehran for making this so very interesting. I think he is one of the very best CS professor in the world. I think your energy and non formal and funny way of explaining things make more blood to flow to the brain which makes brain alert and energetic. I wish all the teaches and professors in the world are like Mehran who are able to make education an interesting thing to follow. Once again thank you Mehran and Sf.

  • Thank you!

  • Just finished to see the lectures, I feel so motivated to keep learning. Mehran is maybe the best teacher I ever had, and i don't even know him.

    I remembered some things, learned some new other, but mostly helped me to understand better the things that I knew and better ways to teach those things.

    Thank you Mehran for be so inspiring.

  • OK, just completed the course. Excellent dr. Sahami !! Thank you Stanford. Greetings from Greece !!

  • Stanford CS likes programming contests. The youtube channel youtube.com/user/stanfordcs248 shows winning games written for stanford graphics programming class. Very impressive for 1 month of work.

  • Thanx Mehran! You Rock..! Programming was fun with you.. :-) would love see more lectures of you in near future..! finally, a big thanx to stanford who made this possibe...

  • that zelda game rocked! :P

  • I want Professor Sahami to be my dad =(.

  • wow....stanford went easy on exams...everything that he took "off" the test, I learned when I was 10. *shrugs*

  • Please help.where Can I find previous handouts and assignments.

  • @cdude143 all material is online, including compiler, handouts, sample exams, problem sets,. google for "stanford see programming"

    thanks stanford and prof mehran. really helped this old time unix c/c++ and script programmer get started with java.

  • Thank you Mehran so much!! I would not have been able to take AP Programming in my HS with out this class! What a wonderful way to get in the pre-required Java knowledge! I wish I went to Stanford so I could have another class with you! Thanks again!

    -Steven

  • Thanks Mehran! One guy posted a link on programming forum and i didn't even thought about Java and clicked that link just because of interest, but today i'm watching 28th lecture (!). You provided such a great way of explaining the stuff that i was simply traped to watch & learn all the material! So i think it also will change my life because i found that Java is a great language to learn and i will continue to develop my skills the way PM recommends. Thanks for your efforts!

  • Rock on Mehran, Good times.

  • Good times

  • Chris Mieller is a machine

  • @Headcrabb he is a beast

  • zxfvdxvdxsfs

  • This was a great learning experience. Actually, it reminded me things that I already knew and covered many holes on things that I did not know or I was not clear about.

    Thanks a lot!

  • thanx to Standford!

  • Also I must say to Mehran if you see this Teaching your way I have learned about Programming Not just Java. And That was My Need . Plenty of people spouting Unfamiliar Names of functions and Methods but not that Many Teaching what they are and How to implement Them. Thank You Mehran and Stanford I have enjoyed this Immensely. Someday I hope to come there and perhaps take some classes as well old as I am LOL LOL I like Rush and All those Guys and gals Too LOL

  • Wow ! What Hate and discontent,,,, I am almost to the end of this course And It is a Pleasure to have learned from Mehran Kept My interest throughout. Wish I had taken His course at stanford

  • After watching the whole 106A lectures, I wish I had a professor like Mehran. Then I will probably far more success in IT industry than I am right now. Stanford guys! Rack on!

  • CHRIS FUCKIN MEILL!!!!!!!!

  • Ha? C >> C++ >> Java ... lol

  • And the "Assembly > C++ > Python > Java" line is my opinion, it is not clarified fact, which I don't know that you can tell the difference, based on your outrage.

  • Thanks a ton stanford

  • I have never, ever, witnessed an ovation for a professor after a semester; however, this guy is THE BEST... Hands down.

  • Thank you Stanford for posting these lectures. Thanks very much Mehran for your wonderful instruction. If you ever decide to do something different in the future, I think you would excel in teaching professors how to teach. I wish you only good times.

  • Nice programs, but

    C++ > Java

  • Retard

  • I would return Flame();

    but... You have cool videos.

  • Imma let you finish but Python can be transformed into C++, and it has Java integration, thus: Python + Java > C++

  • Python is not in this chain.

    But in that case, I will add my own variation:

    Assembly > C++ > Python > Java

  • WHAT!? Let me guess, you actually have little to no knowledge of Java or C++, or Python and assembly code respectively. Please allow me to disgrace whatever small amount of knowledge you do have. Assembly is an intermediate language that can be debugged in something such as a ring3 debugger. C++ is compiled (and linked) into a machine code, java is compile to bytecode. Bytecode CAN be linked to machine code but it is rare. Python is a scripting language with access to java libs, retard.

  • I really don't see why you have to get your panties all wrinkled up over a youtube comment. I was just stating that I think C++ is more advanced and flexible than Java. Trying to assume how much knowledge I have about any of those is a huge mistake, and just makes you look like a ignorant moron.

    Seriously, what do you know about me? I don't know about you, so I'm not going to make imbecilic assumptions about your knowledge.

  • And, Assembly is far from and intermediate language.

    "Please allow me to disgrace whatever small amount of knowledge you do have."

    That statement is just spewing irony; you have absolutely no knowledge about me whatsoever.

    All of your little references to the different languages is common sense. Who doesn't know that? No shit C++ goes to machine code and Java goes to bytecode.

    Just because you think your so smart doesn't mean to go objurgating on youtube about someone's opinion. Grow up.

  • wtf? a whole bag of candy in college?

    that teacher must really love his job

  • Thanks to Mehran for the set of lecture of what could otherwise be a very dull and boring class. He really made the subject amusing, interesting and (to those who got candy) sweet.

    Also, thanks to Stanford for releasing these lectures to the public like that. It's a very generous contribution and it shares a huge amount of knowledge with people worldwide, who may not be able to afford it otherwise. It's really appreciated.

    I'll move on to the next video-class, but I'll sure miss the teacher!

  • a taste of the future

  • Awesome. I learnt a lot from the lecture series. Thank You Professor, for the wonderful lectures. Its all "Good Times" :)

  • This was a GREAT series! Loved every lecture and I hope Mehran doesn't have any "bad times" haha, If anyone cares I will be posting a review of these lectures on my programming blog: CodeJustin(.)com, you can stop on by and leave a comment with your thoughts on the series!

  • Awesome!!! That's just life in the city:-)

    I enjoyed the journey which has equipped me well:-). Now I can explore AI better:-)

  • Good stuff.

  • omg..the works of winners of the contest are really very impressive...i rmb that in lecture 1 mehran mentioned that there is a accelerated cs class cs106x...if people in cs106a already have such skills in java, i wonder how much more ppl in 106x can do...

  • wow

  • can someone tell me where can i find this version of eclipse ? ... i tried all kinds of eclipse and all kinds of jdk ... even thoese from CS106A software .... but i still couldn.t import acm.graphics.*; or acm.program.*;

  • You should download acm.jar from acm (dot) org.There is project folders on the left side of the eclipse. you should right click on your project folder and choose properties and then choose "java build path" and then choose "Add external JARS" and add your acm.jar file.

  • Those are damn good pieces of work

  • WOOT! That was epic!
