All life is precious and I loved her music. Willie Wogan, Lawrence Dudley, Dewey Strubing killed in Vietnam 1969 drafted all loved life too that was taken from them.
People who find Richard "cold hearted"...should watch him play once more on the piano supporting this Japanese lady Keiko Touge... watch the video; "Keiko Touge imitating Karen with Richard's blessing" And she's singing Karen's fave song. And you'll think different I'm sure of it !!
everyone commenting how weird richard is during this interview!! I don't think so! It has been 30 years since karen died now! He has lived his life once over again since her passing! It was a long time ago! he had to carry on,he might seem not so sad but im sure he will never forget her,but he has to live his life right here in 2012!
@jeffshaught Richard lost his sister to horrible disease so give him a break even if his behavior/personality is a little odd. Put your self in his shoes, having to talk about his life with Karen.

The world lost an angel when Karen left us. Those two were incredibly talented, versitale, and their complex jazz vocals that incorporated 6th 9th and 13th additions and hook line melodies will never be duplicated. Take a walk on the internet and watch these two. Karen was a very decent drummer for the time and for a woman. She blazed A trail for female artists. I miss them very much. I dont think the world will ever see another duo like The Carpenters. Go easy Karen...
Okay seriously.. What's up with all the nasty comments on here? Karen Carpenter had a serious problem with her weight, and for you to sit here and call her fat is wrong. But if you have to be little somebody that lost their life because of a horrible disease, then you do that. But don't you dare do it in front of me and on videos that I watch. K thanks.
@swimtoshore89 I'm with you....It's trollers like Lindawatcher and others that lead very empty lives and the only way they can get attention is to post something on YouTube so that they can get a reaction....Otherwise, to them, their life has no meaning.
@swimtoshore89 I agree, I don't get it but like Karenfan09 said it just pathetic, hurting people that are just Trolls..insensitive jerks. There comments show where their at and it's pathetic and sad; Ignore them or flag their crap!
@LAWoman323213 It should be noted that when Karen learned of the relationship she was completely mortified and shared her feelings with her brother on a number of occasions, leading to a final argument where Richard told his sister "We have had the tests done there will be no problem if we have children in the future. So let it drop!". Richard and Mary have five children: Kristi Lynn, Traci Tatum, Mindi Karen (named after his late sister), Colin Paul and Taylor Mary.
There is no stigma in liking the Carpenters. I liked them right off. I will never forget hearing "Close to you" the first time, in a high school gym. I thought "carpenters" was a group name, like "Beatles". I was hooked right off! I cherished every note, from every song! Even my straight-arrow parents adored the carpenters.
Such a beautiful person; such a beautiful voice. It is so sad that she couldn't see that in herself. I was in high school in the '70's and the Carpenters were big then. I love their songs to this day!! Pure, good, no hatred. BK
I remember in the movie her mother said"I don't have to tell her I love her." She still should have been told but I guess her mom had that old fashioned thing about not showing love.
I grew up in the era of Richard and Karen's success. I took music in university, and played in a band for over 17 years. To this day, she is still my favorite female vocalist. It was a traumatic day when she passed away in 1983. The world lost a great duo when she left us. Richard and Karen's music will never die in my mind. I still listen to it today. I always will. They were my favorite musical group of all time. They should top the list in Music history. Ron B.
god bless karen to bad what happend to her she had the best female sining voice i have ever heard.her story is similar to the rudine howard story.i am just glad richard is still doing well even without karen.
@cubicleboy it was more of a statement than a question.... but you seem to lack that insight... guess thats what happens when you spend your life in a cubicle.
watching this, you just can't believe that she is gone!!! its just so hard to believe. I agree with what Dionne Warwick says about Karen's legacy being around for a long time, OF COURSE IT WILL! We all know that Lady Ga Ga's music isn't going to last the test of time!! Karen is the best female singer who ever lived, that is why she is my favorite, she put so much of her heart and soul into everything she sang, that is what makes her timeless, people will always relate to that
Karen was the "Marilyn Monroe" of the music world.....so many problems....and such genius....One wishes there had been more treatment then. And Dionne was right--Karen's legacy is going to be around for a LONG time. Greatest singer of all time--that's so right. So why aren't they in the R and R hall of fame??
More than a beautiful voice. She had something in her songs that got inside you and actually made you feel good. Our wedding song in 1971 was "We've Only Just Begun". I still get chills when I hear it.....so much of life ahead for us. Thank you Karen.
i cry so much everytime i hear her sing!! she had a voice that dug right down to your very soul and touched you in the most loving and intimate way. I LOVE YOU KAREN!! your in a much better place now and i will hear you sing with god's angels again someday when my time has come to go and see you and my pappy and mammy and jesus!!! Karen Carpenter had this ethereal, classic beauty and an ethereal, , inexplicable voice that perhaps, no other singer, can ever come close to. she sings from a sacred place that is known to us all regardless of time and genre. we will miss you forever, Karen
"EYE" MEAN GOD; SHE COULD NOT SEE THAT IF SHE DIED, WE CRY, AND WE CRY, AND WE CRY, AND WE DIE, AND WE DIE, AND WE DIE! AND SHE JUST COULD NOT SEE THIS! WHAT IS BLOCKING THE COMMUTATION FROM HER HEART TO OUR HEART? SOMETHING IS BLOCKING THE INFORMATION THAT SHE DOES NOT SEE THAT IF SHE DIE, WE DIE! IT IS SO PAINFUL, GOD IS IT PAINFUL TO LOVE SOMEONE SO MUCH, AND THEY DO NOT SEE IT. "EYE" 5
Maybe her soul was in tune with the millions upon millions of starving people in this world that we have created maybe that's the frequency she was working on i don't know I only know she touched me every time she opened her instrument and instead of stuffing her face she chose to just give from it.., maybe she is on top of the world looking down on creation
We share the same birthday - I didn't know that until now. Karen had THE most beautiful voice ever. I loved to hear her sing and my brother told me years after she had died that he had a major crush on her. RIP Karen, you are part of wonderful memories of my younger years.
Her voice was truly magnificent...I wasn't quite 5 years old when she died, but I discovered the Carpenters years later and still am a fan to this day....She is truly one of the finest female singers that ever lived....Such a tragic end....I love you Karen...RIP
As the fella on the video said, she was the greatest voice of all time. Such a cruel, wasting disease. Hopefully more will be known about Anorexia in the next few years. Rest in Peace, Karen

When I was young I'd listened to the radio waiting for my favourite songs. And Karen Carpenter sang them. Have a look at Tony Peluso. Does anyone think he may have had a crush on Her. Two Beautiful People gone too soon. R.I.P Karen and Tony.
I was only 6 months old when Karen Carpenter died! So sad she had to. I'd love to see how her life and the world would have been if she was still here :)
Richard Carpenter was pretty hot when he was young, and still handsome as he got older. Karen died 2 months before I was born. God bless her and her parents in heaven and her brother and his wonderful wife and kids here on earth.
she died before fans could connect with artists through the internet and give the artists support. they were held hostage to what the media wrote back then.
My sister almost died of the same issues 10 months later. Thankfully, doctors had learned more about how to treat people with this disorder by then and my sister survived-- barely. There are still some residual issue 30 years later, but my sister is testimony to the fact that Karen's death was not in vain. Wish she were still here.

Most people when they have a certain psychological disorder be it substance abuse, alcoholism or anorexia or the like, denial is very common. Richard knew her problem only for Karen to deny it.
Poor, sad, tragic Richard Carpenter: pawn to the psychopathology in the family that denied existence to an as talented,as gifted, more popularly received sister. It "wasn't supposed to be her"...she wasn't "allowed" to have a life, much less as Grammy awarded voice. How did Julia Roberts escape the same fate?
@Karloffrules What an idiotic comparison. If anything the Roberts family has disowned Eric in favor of Julia. You obviously have a chip on your shoulder against brothers/MEN in general.
An absolute tragic loss. I loved her and her singing so much. To me she was even bigger than Olivia newton-John. She was the absolute greatest. I will always miss her. Long live her memory. RIP karen. We will never forget u.
man you can see how skinny she was in that one interview 32 years old good lord she was too young lived to fast I was really shocked to hear of her death, she had such a beautiful voice and an awesome drummer definitely a Legend in my book
The Carpenters' version of "Touch Me When We're Dancing" was released on their "Made in America" album in the summer of 1981 The video for "Touch Me When Were Dancing" can be found on The Carpenters video collection of Gold.
All life is precious and I loved her music. Willie Wogan, Lawrence Dudley, Dewey Strubing killed in Vietnam 1969 drafted all loved life too that was taken from them.

Psycho9263 1 year ago
Poor, sad, tragic Richard Carpenter: pawn to the psychopathology in the family that denied existence to an as talented,as gifted, more popularly received sister. It "wasn't supposed to be her"...she wasn't "allowed" to have a life, much less as Grammy awarded voice. How did Julia Roberts escape the same fate?
Karloffrules 1 year ago
@Karloffrules What an idiotic comparison. If anything the Roberts family has disowned Eric in favor of Julia. You obviously have a chip on your shoulder against brothers/MEN in general.

There was no treatment for anorexia back then. People still die from the effects of anorexia today. Karen was fabulous.

An absolute tragic loss. I loved her and her singing so much. To me she was even bigger than Olivia newton-John. She was the absolute greatest. I will always miss her. Long live her memory. RIP karen. We will never forget u.

I don't know who is the greatest singer ever to live or if he/she is even out there yet. But Karen was a really good singer.
