description says "real" stunter? those aren't even "real" bikes. i stunted one once. lost even more respect for the sport. i can't believe how easy it is to balance with huge dirtbike handlebars. but then there's no weight on the front tire for cornering. why not stunt a "real" dirtbike??
@wez923 Sounds like you're popping the clutch too hard - or you have a bad tire. Maybe try a stickier tire and really pay attention to how you pop the clutch, there is a way to ease it up - like riders have to in the rain, or when it's really cold. Gixxers/636/f4i it's all the same for that.
@stuntbums ebay so steel subframe conversions for cheap or weld one up buddy ;-) a nylon block is good at the furthest point at the rear to avoid bending/ scraping or even cracking youre rear brace bar. also, if you go too far back and youre nylon block is wide enough, hopefully it will help the bike stay straight. ;-)
@TheJm6975 Interesting request - we don't have one right now, we normally cater towards stunt riders who specifically ride in parking lots. Fast wheelies can get pretty dangerous and we don't like being responsible for people getting hurt! But the back break concept is the same with any wheelie - it can really save you!
@glavinlh04 For me, I relied totally on my high idle to carry the wheelie. Once I had the clutch up down, I would pop it up, let the idle carry me at balance point and as long as I was easy on the brake, I could ride a pretty long wheelie without using the throttle at all. Once you get to that point you can practice tiny inputs of throttle. Until then my advice would be the smaller the input the better, even if you keep coming down, start small and slowly practice using a tiny bit more at a time
Watching your video here around [01:30 to 01:35 and after] it doesn't even look like you hands are even on the clutch or the front brake. It even appears you come to a complete stop without using the clutch. What are those black levers that are not being used?
@newsunit The black levers are my front brake and my handbrake (a lever attached to an extra caliper on my rear wheel). You can see at 1:33 I have my clutched engaged, because I pop it out to roll forward again. Since you control the wheelie with the rear brake, I am using my footbrake entirely to be ready for the wheelie.
@newsunit Having a high idle helps carry the bike forward, it also makes up if you can't pop it exactly to balance point every time. If you start trying to clutch up your bike with a low idle, the second you raise it you will be amazed at how much easier it gets!
I wanted to mention that I'm a pilot so I'm used to throttle control perhaps in a different way but non the less as important. I think throttle up might be better than clutch up--correct me if I'm wrong. What I'm getting at is you don't think the clutch because it's automatic (or should be) and the focus should be on balance and precision throttle control.
I'm new at wheelies but why clutch up risking popping past 12 o'clock and chasing your bike?
Just came across your video and I'm going to go out now and try a modified version of your lesson. I'm 44 going on 24 here but I love wheelies and want to learn them.
If I am sounding critical here it's only because I have been discussing your method here on the phone with a friend of mine. Any more videos? Leave a link on my site: "The News UNIT" Thanks.
@newsunit By only using the throttle (unless you have a GIANT sprocket) you will be going pretty fast by the time you reach balance point (which is why power wheelies are fast wheelies). Here I am explaining idle wheelies, a bit different and the clutch is the most consistent way to hit balance point fast enough to hold idle and not have to keep on the throttle. Hope that helps!
@stuntbums I went out last night and did some. It was cold here though at 31 degrees. Obviously you are in to stunt riding so you turn up the idle. From dead stop or barely moving you have to clutch up a wheelie. Or maybe another way to put it is ride the clutch and raise it up. I just want to avoid chasing my bike on foot because that's already a dangerous habit from doing so many wheelies on pedal bikes for me. Although I take a slightly different approach to crashing I see your points.
@newsunit You definitely get it! This is just the method I used, but my bike was all set-up to stunt and I had another streetbike, so I was ready to crash. Crashing is a sure part of this method I think, but most stunters see it as improvement - it means you're pushing yourself! If you're looking to pull casual wheelies on the street, power wheelies could be a better idea ;) Either way, stay safe and have fun!
Seeing you run after your bike brought back memories of me pulling a wheelie on a friends courtesy CG125 bike thinking nothing would happen.. had to run about 20meters before i figured that i was pulling the throttle back chasing it
question - with stragger starting off, is it ok if your forearms (mostly my right) has a pain to it after a few practices? (idk if it's a soreness like my legs but it's from the compression of when coming back down from the attempted wheelie) i've probably done about 100 or so attempts in the lot.
@Vermino Oh yes, it is normal to be sore. I picked up a ace wrist brace for a while, which I wore at night to help with the pain. But as your arms strengthen and you get better at stunting (ie stop slamming down so hard) your arms will feel better.
@stuntbums yeah i'm slamming hard a bit sometimes (probably riding the brake) but it isnt second nature yet.. well that's a relief - I've been using a ice/heat pack on the wrist/forearm at night but might pick up a wrist brace as well. thanks for the reply =)
@Vermino Ya, when you get more confident with the throttle you will start to give it a little blip of gas as you're coming down from a wheelie, which will ease the process and save your arms :)
