how does someone learn something by ear? you just listen to a chord and u can know where to put your fingers?

or there's whats called perfect pitch, some people are just gifted with it, you can also teach yourself,

its just people can hear a note and know already what it is. my friend does this all the time and it pisses me off at how he can do it.
