@apocalist420 they're more progressive rock than metal....for some reason i don't like porcupine tree...i like fair to midland, riverside, rishloo, opus dai, karnivool, tool, and opeth but not porcupine tree for some reason...
This is good, but it's not progressive rock (or i've mistaken reading prog as progressive). Both this and Tool are something between rock and ethnic music. Ethnic rock?
However, this bands are famous for playing very, very good music, aren't they? :) Porcupine Tree plays music between prog rock and metal, I think. Sorry, I forgot Queensryche :P
@raccoonski Nah. Musical accident. Happens all the time. I play guitar and play improv a lot; I stumble upon all sorts of killer riffs, only to hear them in a song on my iPod the next morning. :P
@fraglles I'm sorry, but Tool doesnt even come into the conversation. So many bands better than Tool. Even bands like Indukti do the style Tool does better.
I absolutely can't understand how people don't like this album! I mean... I can understand that the opener "Hyperactive" is still a bit difficult at first but this one is completely perfect (take for example the part from 3:51 until 4:58)!
Riverside is my absolute favourite band nowadays! They're so perfect!!!
Dream Theater, Riverside, Porcupine Tree, The Big Three of progressive metal. I'm proud of Riverside which comes from my country: from Poland :) ''Polak potrafi" jak wybrzmiewa stare polskie porzekadło.
Guys, look up their bio...One of my all time favorite bands DreamTheater were instumental in bringing Riverside to the states... And that my friends is very nice company to keep...Recently found out about these guys and love every corde of music...
tool do deny the label prog but IMP i think there prog riverside seem to be a mix of porcupine tree and tool and what a combo beutiful and im sure many prog fans here can here a hint of pink floyd in there musical style :)
riverside is moving into the prog scene with steady steps pushing alot of bands to the side, good thing DT decided to revitalize their song and music writing
i think mastodon is way behind tool musicians skills specially when it comes to compare drummers and bassists skills and originality, also maynards voice is a lot more developed too, is just one mans opinion with all respect.
@prisonson You have to be kidding me - Tool not prog?? Look up definition of prog - it refers to the construction and development of musical ideas as well as concepts, it isn't about a particular sound like other categories - that's why music that is considered prog can sound so different band to band.
Check it out on Wiki (which refers to Oxford music dictionary) and then the section on 1990s to 2000.
I have spoken with Duda after one of their concerts in Cracow and he's told me about their inspirations : one, maybe the biggest, was Marillion which is the legendary neoprogressive rock band ;) And if you like Marillion, then listen to genesis in 70's, you'll love it ;r
Comparable to the likes of Between The Buried and Me. Riverside has really gotten me into their music with their latest album. I'm very into the progressive metal influences in their music and the way it all musically fits like Dream Theater and Opeth. It's amazing to hear such music and realize on just how many different levels it works on.
Did you really just compare BTBAM to Riveriside? Really? BTBAM are talented musicians but SHIT song writers - Riverside are AMAZING song writters and musicians!
Fail, also Opeth and Porcupine Tree are Riverside's biggest influence i'm pretty sure.
reminds me of 46 & 2 , but they are still pretty cool

Massive guitars! Up until now I thought 'Reality Dream II' was Riverside's best, but this piece just rocks! On repeat! Greets from Bulgaria
