You ask which verse that stands? All of them. Neither one says anything contradicting to the other ones. They all have the same line of intoxication being a sin/wrong. However one (2: 219) can, based on ones interpretation, imply that alcohol is okay when used for important reasons and not making Muslims drunk.

Example: “But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah” (Surah 8:61)
This was later abrogated by:

“But there is no compulsion in religion” (Surah 2:256).
Abrogating verse written later is Surah 9:5, but also:
“Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of believers” (Surah 9:14).
“O ye who believe! Fight the Unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him” (Surah 9:123).

The quran is full of contradictions. Abrogation is a way to make sense of it all. If one verse forbids wine and another allows it....just take the later verse.
@upuup I'm asking YOU about abrogation. In early Islam, wine drinking and gambling were allowed - Surah 2:219. Follow the surahs about wine drinking chronologically. Later suras make it forbidden. Same with violence. At first muhmmed (pretending to chammel allah) said no violence. Later, violent verses abrogated the earlier ones.

However, there are many both at the beginning and later saying that Muslims only can act in self defence and that Muslims must act so when being attacked/oppressed, and the "eye for an eye" - princible; but that its better to forgive and show tolerance.
Its not written in a thematic order (I guess thats what you meant), so I suggest you to read the entire Quran.

“There will be some people among my nation who will regard fornication, wearing of silk (for men), drinking of intoxicants and stringed instruments as lawful.” (Al-Bukhaarie and others).
You need to learn about islam. Tell me what abrogation means.

Next, another ayah was revealed that forbade the Muslims to come to prayer drunk, Surah 4:43. Drinking wine was not uncommon among Muslims at that point.
Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 142:
Narrated Jabir:
Some people drank alcoholic beverages....that was before wine was prohibited.

You ask which verse that stands? All of them. Neither one says anything contradicting to the other ones. They all have the same line of intoxication being a sin/wrong. This is a simple example of abrogation that muslims follow. Islamic scholors recognize abrogation.

@upuup Muhammed wrote the more peaceful verses when he lived in Mecca and had little power and was collecting followers.
Example: “But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah” (Surah 8:61)
This was later abrogated by:
"But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war)....." Surah 9:5

Abrogated verse written early:
“But there is no compulsion in religion” (Surah 2:256).
Abrogating verse written later is Surah 9:5, but also:
“Fight them, and Allah will punish them by your hands, cover them with shame, help you (to victory) over them, heal the breasts of believers” (Surah 9:14).
“O ye who believe! Fight the Unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him” (Surah 9:123).

@upuup I might add that it doesn't say intoxicated in the Quran that I have (interpertation in my native language). But I guess intoxicated goes into that word, which stands for not being clear minded/dizzy ect.

Surah 16:101
When We substitute one revelation for another,- and Allah knows best what He reveals (in stages)
Why does allah change his mind? Why is there a need to substitute an earlier revelation for another? What was wrong with the first revelation?
The quran is full of contradictions. Abrogation is a way to make sense of it all. If one verse forbids wine and another allows it....just take the later verse.

@upuup I'm asking YOU about abrogation. In early Islam, wine drinking and gambling were allowed - Surah 2:219. Follow the surahs about wine drinking chronologically. Later suras make it forbidden. Same with violence. At first muhmmed (pretending to chammel allah) said no violence. Later, violent verses abrogated the earlier ones.
You do know the quran is not in chronological order, right?

@dominiquehoward 2:219 forbidds it. There is not 1 verse in the Quran saying that Muslims aren't allowed to use violence. However, there are many both at the beginning and later saying that Muslims only can act in self defence and that Muslims must act so when being attacked/oppressed, and the "eye for an eye" - princible; but that its better to forgive and show tolerance.
Its not written in a thematic order (I guess thats what you meant), so I suggest you to read the entire Quran.

@taiba1234567890 Hi! No, I am not a muslim. I would never belong to an ideology that says it's OK for men to fuck children and rape women and murder 'infidels' and trade slaves around. I don't think it is OK to kill people that don't believe what you believe.
I'm into freedom and individual rights. I think women are equal to men. In an islamic country I could never have lived the great life I have lived. I own 2 houses, have a car and have traveled the world. I have a great career!

This is very bad to say about women. Islam permits men to beat women and treat them as property. Muslims don't like to admit this but it is in their holy books.
