  • LAZY!! You didn't make your battery.

  • make the wedge wider and it would work 100 times better and make a 4 way

  • Nice, but u need a work table at the end where the wood gets pushed off, that way u don't have to keep bending over to pick up the hoagies. Very nice splitter

  • Awesome! But can it split hairs? hahahahaha....thumbs up!

  • thats way to slow

  • jeez i can split wood faster than tht with an axe

  • @jessejamescsm good for you

  • @jessejamescsm I agree it is slow. it needs a 22 or 28gpm pump. Plus it isn't a 40 ton splitter. with a 5" piston and a 3000psi pump the most it can produce is a little over 29 tons. even with a 3500 psi pump it is still only at 34 tons. a 3000psi pump and a 6" piston will produce approx 42.41 tons of push force. I see this all the time. I'm not sure where everyone gets their tonages from. I'll post a video of mine when it's done.

  • sweet machine! that bad boy doesn't even blink when it encounters a knot, just keeps stroking! Very nice job on the fabrication. I have a store bought splitter which I like a lot, but I'd swap you any day....

  • so...you're saying a wood splitter made ITSELF? I can't even wrap my head around that....like a man eating his own head...

  • @kenfo0 I'll let u figure that out.

  • can u make ur blade into a t or a cross so it splits 4 ways

  • dobra maszyna !!!!

  • Pump isn't changing speeds, but wow nice machne. Good job.

  • @atcaleb agreed. variable speed, or a constant, faster speed without the lever action is more efficient.

  • u but it

  • now u can bring it to my house and spitt some of my wood for me LOL!!! nice work my frind.

  • While I'd like to have that machine for some of my old hard pieces, what's wrong with a little exercise?

  • Moim fiskarsem bym w między czasie 10 takich rozrąbał:P

  • @edekgumiok English please !

  • GLUPI JESTEŚ !!

  • Really cool that it created itself

  • Why can you not automate the "back action"?

  • @G0MPgomp I don't quite understand your question

  • @J0Boa I believe the question he's asking is if it would be possible for the machine to be able to go back and forward without you hitting the switch.

  • @SuperRmck Yes, the do sell an auto-cycle valve. It is however more expensive plus it would not allow the operation of the second stage of the pump

  • @J0Boa I think he means the return to "ready" position, meaning once split, it returns to open.

  • Quality machine!

  • Nice build, but im not impressed of the speed. 16 gallon should do it faster! I have a 3 gallon servo pump on my wood splitter, and same size piston, and i have more speed than you have on yours...?

  • @MrVikings78 Makes no sence reving the engine

  • @J0Boa i woudnt call it reving the machine. I really doubt that is 16 gallons pr minute. Have you scaled down the flow in some how?

  • @J0Boa Plus a faster ram is a lot easier way to lose some fingers. Nice build, sir, I have a 8HP/40 ton Honda powered splitter that my father and I built, looks just like that minus the nice paint job.

  • ops... i see that, ok. thx.

  • how much money is that cost?

  • Honda plants in China are as big at Towns, I've seen them....

  • Comment removed

  • why do not you put the two blades cross?

  • "Chinese Honda Engine"

Is that a oxymoron? Honda motors are notoriously reliable due to Japanese craftsmanship. Honda weren't dumb enough to farm out there manufacturing to the Chinese are they?

I will never buy another Honda small engine if they do.......

  • @UTubeGlennAR Yes, but the Chinese were smarter and copied everything on that reliable design to the last nut and bolt. Oem Honda parts are direct replacement for that engine if needed..

  • Well, the Japanese did this exact thing to us when I was a boy n young man in the 60s n 70s. Guess it is time the Chinese pay them back (since we Americans can't afford to any longer). A US bomer landed in intact in Russia during WWII, by the late 40s the Russians had did what the Chinese did to Honda n the Russians made hundreds of them, however the US was already in to jets few years after we found about it so we had the last laugh so to speak.

  • @UTubeGlennAR Yes. I've read about it . It was the B-29 bomber they copied. It turned out though the coppy ended up being slightly larger because the Soviets were not able to factor precisely the difference between SAE and Metric. The Chinese today with use of modern tech are producing many 100% exact knock-offs and quality is not bad either.

  • @UTubeGlennAR lol i agree. Personally ill take and old tecumsah, kohler, even a briggs before a honda. i think these hondas are junk, the OHV is Queiter, but there a bitc* to start when its cold. Ive had a coupl of hondas, and they all were so hard to get going in the winter. I had a generator with a tecumsah that would start 2 pulls in the same weather. just my opinion.

  • @UTubeGlennAR the blue ones are Honda clones the red ones are Honda engines and the yellow is a licensed engine for another co like lifan but made by Honda

  • TO be honest, this is great than any store has.... You should made some more and sell them to customer... it would be nice. Also they would love your wood splitter so much! Seem those can handle much last longer than other company.

  • Really good machine - it is so well made that I would not have known that it was not a store bought one. Very good!

  • wàhnsinn_lËÛtÉ_sUcht_mÅl_ñãch:_olikohle_âÙf_goóglè_võll_gËÌl

  • @sweetjeny634272 I have no clue what you are trying to say. English only please !

  • Good job.

  • very nice splitter good job. really solid

  • Detent on the forward stroke is very dangerous. Don't do it or you'll run the risk of loosing and hand or fingers.

  • @hevans1v 2 way detent is very conveniet. You have to pay attention while operating the machine

  • so you made this thing?

  • @brknspacebar No, this device was a product of my outer ego

  • @J0Boa ...oh...I think you mean "alter ego", well whatever part of you crafted it did a good job, although your sarcasm and grammar could use some work.

  • @6pagan9 i second this comment.

  • its too slow

  • thats not hand made whaT A DOUCHE

  • @55destructo then tell me what is it?

  • @J0Boa Long time ago I saw one of these in an agricultural show basically the same as yours. I'm sure it had a very fast return stroke. This would enable you to half the time of the job. If I remember how it was done I'll contact you again. Cheers Robert

  • @J0Boa looks hand made to me. esta muy bien, yo qierolo

  • I must say I do like it, I made a 4 way wedge for mine. It does save alot of time, but when you do get to the really knotty elm....well it does struggle a little.

Very nice job, thanks for sharing.

  • @skiddy8619 most of my wood is really knotty and that's why I get it for free

  • Comment removed

  • You have ten fingers, haven't you? I wish you all the best!

  • beats the hell out of using a maul and/or wedges, no ?

  • @junior2004hasz In my experience, if you can swing a maul and the wood isn't knotty, the maul is faster by far.Especially with two guys, one setting and stacking, the other splitting. And I don't mean the big triangle head maul, but a good one like "Chopper USA".

If you have a lot of knotty stuff, the hydraulic can't be beat.Even a small one will go through 1.5' wide logs that are loaded with knots.

  • @heliarche I agree with you especially if you are young and in shape. Some of us can't hand-split 10 cords a day any more in our old age :-)

  • Use the Woodbeatall to haul your loge to the splinter.

  • Great little splitter!!! I've made a few of them in my welding shop. Great Job build that splitter J0Boa.

  • Sweet machine.....congrats on design and function !!!! Love it.

  • you're splitting some tough wood there. just like in the real world. good to see a real demonstration on real wood, not like the ones showing balsa rounds being split easy with a "wonder hatchet". good video and a nice looking machine you built there.

  • Man, great work, I've seen hundreds of log splitter videos, and 99% of them wouldn't split the wood you're splitting. All you see here is people splitting the soft poplar, birch, spruce, pine, crap like that, Heck we just axes for soft wood like that. You're cutting oak, hard, tough, make that splitter work ! My Dad and I built one even bigger than yours about 25 years ago, runs off one of the tractors, hooks up on the rear of the tractor. NOTHING ever stopped that splitter. GREAT WORK !

  • There called Kambodo Engines we have them here in Australia Unfortunalty no one will fix them or supply parts for them and all the Honda Dealers wont sell you any parts at all

  • @XCLENT408 why don't ya just say that you need parts for a honda engine? Honda parts are direct fit for these engines.

  • @J0Boa beacuse all honda dealer ask for a serial number

  • @XCLENT408 Just go to a store or tool rental place for small equipment and write down the selial number from some honda engine that matches the chinese knockoff.

  • slow

  • Nice selfmade machine !

And we also have a "fake" honda from China in one of our agriculture machines :) I don't know the english name for it but it has rotating knifes that plow into the ground.

  • where did you get your hyd valve

  • Nice crastmanship!

  • should have used a V8.....

    only joking, great invention,

  • awesome job! my may be interested in a splitter from you

  • Awsome splitter. Could you make a video for the plans materials and how much it would cost to build one jsut like that?

  • ... oder 7400 PSI ?

  • 40 tonnen glaub ich nich....das sind bei einem zylinderdurchmesser von 100mm ungefähr 512 bar...?

  • I feel that Belle's father from Beauty and the Beast did a far better job. :D

  • You should make a 4 way wedge. I have a 32 ton splitter and the 4 way works great! Doubles the pieces in the same amount of time!

  • I prefer an axe instead

  • my father call me his Selfmade Log splitter when he dont whant to splitt it himself

  • You need a four way wedge. Save your back incease yoru production.

  • It stops by itself right before it touches the blade

  • @J0Boa I like your blade design. I have seen a few homeade rigs and yours will work for a long time. Nice.

  • @J0Boa lol a chinese honda engine :p ?

  • @nlguy321 yes

  • @J0Boa cool I didn't know the chinese where making/copying a japanese brand engine, it looks pretty handy though ! greetz

  • The Chinese are copying everything. Copywright laws do not apply in china.

  • does it know to stop when it reaches the blade? or is that all the farther the arm with extend out

  • i split a lot of wood and you should realy never pu your fingers on the ends of the log.

you made a nice table ,...use it

it is ofcourse handy to pick ti wood up that way but if you roll it where the splitting takes place grab it sideways if you know what i mean, beause sooner or later you are mayby distracted and you loose a finger.

    nice machine BTW.

  • it is kinda slow for my tastebut maybe a good thing .

you would have lost your finger @7.10

  • @theklrdude the engine is running at half trottle. It looks that way in the video there was plenty of room to my finger.

  • Congratulations,is a very novel, was just whatI was looking for my wood cutting up,thanks.

  • Chuck Norris could stop that machine... lol

  • GOOD WORK !!!

  • Force is probably greater than he claims as its all focuse on the wedge edge, which is much less than 1 sq in in total size, so force is 5inches diameter and 300lbs per inch, all concentrated on 1 inch for the wedge. Ive a debate on the chinese honda engine that he claims. Dont think Honda and china are too friendly yet.

  • @bill45colt It's called a Honda copy, China has no regards for patents, or copyrights, there are several Chinese engines that copy a solid proven engine so well if you slapped a Honda label on it, very few would know the difference. The design performs the same as the Honda, it fails in poor quality steel used in the Engine. A lot of people get luck and they last just as long as the real McCoy

  • @Fentanyl3 This particular engine that I have on the splitter is of very high quality. It even has an original Honda carburator. I have almost 200hrs on the engine and it runs like new and always starts on the first crank. This engine is made by the Lifan company which makes most of the chinese scooter, motorcycles, dirtbikes, ATV's etc sold under different names.

  • @J0Boa very familiar with Lifan, they are one of the biggest copycats out there, I still have two of their engines, one junk and the other still running. it's a crap shoot sometimes with their stuff, like I said, they've taken a proven design, the only fault I have with them is lack of quality control, some will last for years, others will have bearing fail within a few hundred hours of use. If im short on cash I buy Hinsim, or Lifan, if I have the money it's the real McCoy for me.

  • @Fentanyl3 ALL in ALL, it's a decent buy for the money, I have owned at least 5 of the Lifan engines, two failed, three didn't one failed after 1 or 2 hundred hours the other lasted 2 years my brother-in-law has owned a few of the Hinsim engines he had worse luck than me.

  • Hello, Great looking splitter, very nice job. If I'm doing my math correct you will need a little over 4000 psi from your pump to achieve 40 tons of splitting force, The most the 16 gpm pump can deliver is about 3000 psi unless you turn it faster and the motor isn't going to turn much more than 3600 rpm.

    The formula for finding force says, F = psi x area of cylinder. area = 3.14 x (2.5 x 2.5) = 19.625 So, tonnage = 3000 psi x 19.625 which is 58,875 lbs which is 29.4375 tons. ,

  • u sound cajun brawhhhhh

  • SAY HELLOO TO MY LITTLE LOG SPLITTING FREN MANG!!!

  • Very nice workmanship, but I must caution you about a relief valve. Actually, even a relief valve may not help save a finger or more if it gets caught in this heavy setup. You need some form of "remote placement" of the logs on the splitting bed so that your fingers can be assured safety. Right now there is no assurance, except for the fact that you expect the user to pay attention. Remember, the accident will happen when you get distracted or are tired. Be careful. But a GOOD JOB!

  • Real Men use splitting mauls.

But great job on this machine.

  • very nice machine I want to do one can you help ?

  • use AXE and save fuel, wood choping improves healt, btw nice work

  • chinese honda engine right and when were done we play some MARIO

  • excellent engineering and build!

  • put an accumulator on it for the return stroke.

  • @slimbobber not sure what you mean

  • you went to the trouble of builbing it but where is your cherry picker? Why lift logs when you have the hydrolic power already there to be used.

  • 40 TON MY ASS

  • that is slow

  • With that kind of power, you need a 4 way head. It is also very slow. You could make it go faster easily.

  • Good stuff.

Do you have any splitter used for sale? I want to split some wood and sell the wood through the winter to pay for college.

    Many thanks,

  • One thing for sure you don't have any problem with knots.Awesome wood splitter.

  • What kind of PSI do you run to get 40 ton with that cylinder? I built mine with two 5" cylinders and a 12 X 12 I beam. I Bent the I beam, lol. (Salvaged backhoe pump, 40 HP Wisconsin engine).

I did put a lift/hoist to lift the bigger logs up. I also added lights to split after it get dark.

    Nice, neat job

  • Very nice.

  • ever considered making your knife a cross shape so it splits twice in one stroke

  • @RReaper100

I did, but a crosswedge only works good for certain size of wood. I get all sorts and sizes of wood, so a crosswedge does not really work for me . I did make a slip-on crosswedge though just in case.

  • @J0Boa Good point , Nice machine tho

  • How about a height adjustable crosswedge?

  • @J0Boa Ever consider to add wedges to your "blade". something like this

  • Looks nice , but kinda slow .

  • Nice machine but catch your hand between the log and the block and you will wish you had some way of stopping the ram. Perhaps a cut off switch /valve you could reach with your left hand. Safety glasses 4.30.

  • @bfenti I normally keep my left hand on the valve. This machine is perfectly safe as long as you pay attention. Safety glasses in this case can potentially cause loss of limbs when they get hazy . I've split over 30 cords of wood and never got anything in my eyes.

  • @J0Boa , you should make foot-valve for safety, which would zero hydraulic pressure.

  • Your cycle time is too long. A good cycle time would be about 7sec, yours looks like its 15?

  • Nice yob, Man-well.

  • good job

  • What is the length of the beam, and what is the overall length of your ram and what is the stroke length.

  • @spinaway Beam if I remember correctly 6' 2", ram 36 1/4"

  • Good Job !!!

  • nice job. I'm thinking of building similar one but with 22/6 GPM pump. Would you change anything on your machine if you were to build again? Cheers..

  • log spliaahah lulz

  • how many cords an hour can you do?

  • Stupid Question Number 1, is the sled run on bearings or is it just a snug fit,

  • @spinaway The sled is just a snug fit with a bit of play. No need for bearings here, a little bit of grease every now and then works fine. BTW the only stupid question is the unasked one!

  • @J0Boa Thanks for the reply, i think you have done a fantastic job, i have seen a few homemade log splitters and this rates amongst the best, Ignore all the negative comments they are a sign of jealousy, i like your design so much im going to try and copy it and build my own log splitter, once again well done.

  • Why did you watch it then ?

  • i bet superman can stop that machine!

  • es ist kein 40 tonnen spalter, max. 8 Tonnen

  • nice...but not sure if the safety side is up to par though. Seems like you could easily get your hands caught....and that would'nt be pretty. Maybe it needs 2 handed activation.

  • @eibachm0b No, it's perfectly safe as long as you are careful.

  • Really nice to watch. One comment; shouldn't the inlet to your tank be well below the oil level? Being so high up on the tank - don't you get a lot of tiny air bubbles in the oil - and hence compressible fluid?

  • @klydolph2 Good point, but I haven't noticed any issues.

  • Where did you get 40 tons from? My brave splitter has all the same stuff on it but mine has a 9hp motor but all the same stuff and mine is 26 ton !! Plus mine is way faster !!

  • watch your hands as these things have no mercy if they catch ya.... nice design....

  • @TERYDOTCOM Yes, that's for sure

  • Sloooooow

  • FanTASTic design man. Really well done, big cudos. I know it uses petrol as opposed to the a manual one, but that aside, it's.....really.....really.......sweet.

    Thumbs up!

  • Why dont you put a blade in the Horizon line? Doubles the the Output...

  • very nice job

  • brilliant build.there is another hydraulic on here somewhere he put a trip lever on the ram so all he did was load the log and pull for cut the ram reset itself after travel.don't remember which vid it was :( great build keep up the good work :)

  • I like the engine with the electric start

  • Sweet, splitting that crotch was impressive,

  • nice piece of machienery but painfully slow, get a good designed splitting axe,not one of those cheap ones!

  • good job and a great dsigne how much did it cost to biuld?

  • $1000 more or less

  • Nice work, I don't know how many comments made here are from folks with a PE. I would say best improvement you could make is replace the one inch thick knife for a 30 degree wedge as it will deflect or split anything after just a short amount of travel saving lots of needless ram movement time. note the wedges on production splitters as they are much wider then one inch. Again nice work though

  • Excellent job! Where did you buy that 2-way detent valve?

Did you ever make that step by step slideshow and a video explaining where some of the components were purchased from?

  • @ick5521 check out plasmaman video homemade log splitter for a walk through of components and how to get them

  • Thanks plasmaman!

  • Good job building that thing, pretty impressive. And I agree with you on the placement of controls. I work from both sides of my splitter so that I can work longer. It'd be a pain in the butt if the lever was on one side.

  • nice work realy i mean it but put on a bigger pump for the oil so the piston go little bit faster and made a foursplitt too ..

  • You did a nice job building this machine, 5/5

  • and you need to mount the controls to the side so you are not leaning over the unit to operate it ..

  • Trust me this is the most convenient location for the controls. I dsigned this machine so it can be operated from both sides

  • We'll if you say trust me....

  • Seems to work ok, you said a 2 stage pump? seems awful slow under no load ?
