What pickup set are u using? I ask this because I'm thinking on modifying a rg350 with paf pro, fs1(single) and paf pro, or fred (on bridge), fs1 and paf pro. I know that the set with the two paf pro is good, Gilbert and Vai use it, but don't know with fred on bridge

Yes the black switch is a killswitch, and the chrome one is a 3 position switch which allows me to change the wiring of the bridge pickup : serie, split, parallel.

There's no one "metal style", you'll have to be more specific than that. I'm a heavy metal guitarist, sonically I rely on a mix of Seymour Duncan JBs, Dimarzio PAF Pros, Tonezones, Fender CS, and Gibson 490Rs and 498Ts.

PAF Pro is one of my personal favorites. The Fred is more of an acquired taste for me. But it's a good pickup in its own right.

If you like something sexy with a lot of fire for soaring leads, but which can smooth out when necessary or give you powerful rhythms, try the Seymour Duncan JB. Along with the Dimarzio Super Distortion, it's the pickup that defined '80s era heavy metal. In the '90s Marty Friedman and Dave Mustaine were using the JB in Megadeth. If you want something capable of those styles, but which gives you more precision and clarity, look at the PAF Pro and ToneZone. Great shredder pickups both.

If you want big Van Halenesque tone, try out the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom. The EMG active set 81/85 is a popular choice because you can get glassy clear sounds with a lot of precision, and you can get a heavy contemporary sound. Many of the bands who play EMGs these days were inspired by Metallica (who used EMGs early on), so you might be interested in that. if you want really high output pickups, look at the Dimarzio "high output" line. There are samples on the Dimarzio website.

Seymour Duncan does have two really good high output pickups that would be great for more aggressive playing: Livewire and Dimebucker.

The highest output pickup I use are my Gibson 490/498, stock in the Les Paul Custom. Very big sound. Metal Church has used them. Randy Rhoads played stock Gibsons in his LP Custom. John Norum has as well. You have a lot of options. Consider this, Akira Takesaki, who can wipe the floor with just about any metal guitarist used a '59 in the bridge of an ash body.
