An old lady with a .45 is extreme the kick is a lot for any older person. LOL A 9mm or .38 special would fit an older lady better and still gets the job done if needed. My grandma carried a .22 revolver and only had to use it once when she was attacked in the parking lot of her work coming off the 2pm to midnight shift and let me tell you her little .22 stopped the attack very quick.
