The first amendment does not mean you can say "anything you want." For instance Christians cannot march around coercing people to kill gays or planned parenthood doctors or any other group. The first amendment has limits and for obvious reasons. Religion tends to spur people on to ridiculous, fanatical, and dangerous behavior and people have the right to be kept safe from those kind of people.

Freedom of speech & religion do not give you unlimited freedom. You are not allowed to holler fire in a crowded building. You must not do anything that would incite a riot. You must not preach hatred towards anyone who is different from you eg. blacks,jews,gays,etc. You may not preach seditious things like the violent overthrow of the government. If somebody lays a complaint the police must follow up & investigate. If there appears to be a violation of the law the police must arrest you. From there, the courts will determine based on the evidence whether any laws have been broken & assess the necessary penalties if this is the case.Freedom does have restrictions even in a democracy in order that there is a proper balance & evryone receives a fair shake.
