Gas mask girl is all the people who dont appreciate the right things. They love the shinny baubles more than what is good for them. the admissions/clown guy is what we need and dont care for because hes not shinny or beautiful, but his song is beautiful. the "Break For Freedom" man is the ones who offer us empty gifts that have one life. The ride she gets on is the cheap thrills in life. and as she walks away she drops the toy she won as a metaphor that all of that junk just rots away.

The brilliance of this song is well past ordinary popular music, its genius defies even the mainstream alternative rock we can endure from wannabe musicians. The video just makes it complete. i know it's impossible to put into words this beautiful video (esp on a youtube comment), but here it goes (and, of course, this is just my interpretation):
first, the lyrics:
do you pray to your savior (i.e., jesus) when you're in need (cos you're breaking up) and feel so guilty you can't stay in the turmoil of this relationship because you want more, it's partly your fault, and it fills you with ill will. "red cape and foil" is cloak-and-dagger (i.e., melodramatic, clandestine love affair).
"feed the rain" is like saying stay with me (even tho it brings sadness, or "rain").
i want your love, despite your (our?) lust - cos without it, my life is a COR.
love is a game avoiding failure and things aren't always black-and-white ("true colors will bleed"), all because of misbehavior (e.g., cheating) and the things we don't need (e.g., expensive gifts). i wish for the time when no disaster can break us apart and hope that there'll never be a time when what we have is no longer enough.
so basically, she's leaving him and he can't handle it, as the end lyrics and video make clear.
as for the video (and this won't be thorough):
she wears a gas mask cos their love is intoxicating, poisonous & she's leaving it now. the lollipop is one of the "things we don't need" - something that keeps her mesmerized and distracted but doesn't satisfy her - it's not enough. the doll perhaps represents her freedom/innocence. the fire-breathers represent the lustful/exotic nature of their love.
she sees that she's going on a roller coaster (pretty common metaphor, ups and downs of a relationship), but it's going nowhere, as it goes backwards.
in the end, she realizes that she might have made a mistake, but it's too late - his heart is broken.
there are a lot of subtleties and allusions which i won't get into, but i think i got most of the video (or so i hope). again, this is just my interpretation. i'd be interested in alternative plausible interpretations.
the way she looks at coins in her hands, it looks like she is weighing her chances.. and that man throws that coin away after she gets the doll.... that intrigues me alot...
"cor cordis" - heart of hearts or heart's heart. in other words, he loved her deeply and when she left his heart essentially died (as did he). interestingly, cor (heart) is also the initials of the song. very clever band.

While I love this video for everything it offers, from a technical end, it's amazing! EVERY shot has shallow depth. Great framerate changes, focus pulls, blending of real and CG. Beautifully directed. Very well done!

yesterday i saw the film Batman returns with the Penguin. the "Red Triangle" (or what.. i don't remember the name of the band) was so like in this video^^
The girl drops the doll in the end, and the ticket comes out of the fortune telling booth, saying "cor cordis" meaning something like "core of emotions/heart of hearts". Could this be a symbol for the girl losing her innocence, one of the most important emotions? Just a thought.
Needless to say this video's more than the best Finnish music video of all time. It's the best music video of the world of all time. Fell in love at first view having listened to the song for months. Just pure passion!
i think the doll symbolizes comfort and freedom. at first, she really wants it, but then she starts to change her mind in the end. but then, it's too late. i think "cor cordis" is just to let her know that she was the "heart of his heart". but i could be wrong.

The video is so expressive, has quite a visual impact on the viewer! The lyrics are more than good, the voice is splendid... Need to find some more about this band, worth buying the album!

My friend recommended this to me. I didn't think much of it but, the lyrics are beautiful. This song is wonderfully crafted. It sticks in your mind as well it has that catchiness that isn't overpowering, but the video is wierd and wonderful as well

While I love this video for everything it offers, from a technical end, it's amazing! EVERY shot has shallow depth. Great framerate changes, focus pulls, blending of real and CG. Beautifully directed. Very well done!

The girl drops the doll in the end, and the ticket comes out of the fortune telling booth, saying "cor cordis" meaning something like "core of emotions/heart of hearts". Could this be a symbol for the girl losing her innocence, one of the most important emotions? Just a thought.
Needless to say this video's more than the best Finnish music video of all time. It's the best music video of the world of all time. Fell in love at first view having listened to the song for months. Just pure passion!

i think the doll symbolizes comfort and freedom. at first, she really wants it, but then she starts to change her mind in the end. but then, it's too late. i think "cor cordis" is just to let her know that she was the "heart of his heart". but i could be wrong.
