  • This is just one system essentually around one star, the almsot 700 extrasolar planets that have been found are at least as promising. More than half of sunlike stars have at least one planet around them and Earthmass or subice giant massed planets outnumber the gass giants by several to one. Even one of Jupiter's moons have more than twice the liquide water as Earth's known hydrosphere. All four of the gass gaints have rings and most or all are wider than the planet's diameters.

  • the audio is a little out of sync, but otherwise good vid

  • Man I love this show. I never get bored of turning this stuff on.

  • this is 1988 isn't it? voyager has only just reached the edge of the solar system can you believe it?

  • @ncmmorris

  • Carl Sagan's message is so beautiful and profound that it could make a grown man weep.

  • We can send '3 integrated' computers to the outer solar system, but when I open 2 browsers, I crash...

  • Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep thoughts can be winnowed from deep nonsense - Carl Sagan

  • enough with the religous bickering, have the crusades inquisitions and the control of ancient information not been enough for you? i respect anything or man that stands for bestowing beneficial knowledge on mankind, are you of good morale is the real question that poses signficance, one bad apple ruins the whole bunch

  • @devonherrington Jesus did something for us? All he did was preach a ridiculous idea that has tainted our society for centuries.

  • @CRISNCHIPS12398

It's ok friend, most religious people haven't really thaught their beliefs over too and are only left with pre-learned phrases, as you are :)

Let me put it this way: your comment "Please exit this video where viewers like to think rationally instead of blindly following a text written by ancient men." = "Get out of here blasphemer! This place is only for the true believers!" - you behaved the same way, a religious fanatic would - You basicly said "Get out of here heathen!"

  • well actually if you understood science and this program you would understand that the thought of religion has helped man question which is important don't patronise ppl. I'm not religious but the more I readd about dementions, dark energy, dark matter and hallographic univese the more you reaise how much of an illusion our whole exsistance is,

  • Wow this quasi-religious worship of Sagan in the comments section really ruins the whole experience of the show for me - Seeing what kind of people it it attracts. This is the same kind of crap I get from religious people.

Would you be so kind and keep your blind atheism and science worship to yourselves?

  • @gajxo

But the difference between admiring Sagan and his teachings and the claims of religious worshippers, is that Sagan and his science is based on REALITY and FACT. Not superstition or faith.

  • @gajxo Please exit this video where viewers like to think rationally instead of blindly following a text written by ancient men.

  • @CRISNCHIPS12398

Is your comment ironic, or are you unintentionally proving me absolutely right?

Get out of here blasphemer! This place is only for the true believers!

  • @gajxo Are you completely delusional? This video or place is not fit for those who want to preach their religious ideals.

  • All hail Sagan!!

  • @devonherrington What has Jesus done for us?

  • The comparison between Jesus and Sagan is apt. In many ways, Sagan was a preacher of science. Cosmos wasn't just educational, it was *inspiring*.

  • @rogermwilcox So Sagan was a preacher of science and Jesus was a preacher of a vile dogma. Yeah, an apt comparison.

  • Well said sir!

But keep in mind, before Sagan, Jesus made a good example for how to behave and involve oneself in the world. It doesn't matter so much whether people like Jesus or Krishna or others actually existed, but that the reported positive, benevolent effect they had on people's lives is emulated by individuals in later generations.

I'm really thankful men like Carl Sagan did what they did for the world. Here here for humankind :)

  • @pkscolax Jesus made a good example of how to behave and involve oneself in the world? Excuse me? He taught that the end of the world was nigh. He advocated voluntary poverty. He preached that people should abandon their families and follow him. One of his teachings was to take no thought for the morrow but trust in God to provide for them. He never criticized the institution of slavery or of the treatment of women in his time. He never said a word in promotion of science and learning.

  • @bcn533 Ah you are describing the Jesus that the ruling bloodlines want you to remember, which is entirely fabricated. The man who roamed this planet two millenia ago lived a far deeper, tragic life than what those Bibles discuss. Imagine if two thousand years from now, somebody writes a biography about Carl Sagan, and mentions that he tried to turn the United States over to the Russians at the height of the Cold War. Who's alive that would know well enough to stop him?

  • @pkscolax True enough that the Jesus of the Bible was fabricated and probably had little to do with the real man. Unfortunately, the Jesus of the Bible is the only one we know. You say that he was a good example of how to behave, yet when it is pointed out that he was not a good example according to the Bible itself, you deny that was the real Jesus. Do you know of some other Jesus that never said those things or are you just picking out the nice things and saying the rest are lies?

  • remember to share these vids with other ppl.

this kind of stuff has to get out. If the metal bands i like can have a video with 7000000 views and this only has 1500 we got a long way to go.

  • One episode of Carl Sagan's Cosmos will do more good for humanity than any holy book ever has.

  • how come this video dun work anymore=/

  • It does, just switch your web browser. Youtube sometimes acts up.

  • better instance of this episode: /watch?v=vyvWaF1niVQ
