I clearly remember the 71 thru 74 Rivs but honestly, sales must have gone down a lot in 75 because I seriously don't remember Rivieras looking like this between 75 and 78, they must not have sold many of them. I can't recall ever seeing one????
@schedules Who you calling a slant eye, you racist niggah. At least my relatives know how to make cars, asshole. What do your relatives do. Smoke crack and eat greasy KFC all day. BTW, learn how to spell, bitch.
good- looking from the front, plain-looking from the side- awkward-looking from behind. The older X-frame Rivs were beautifully sculpted--this one looks like a Caddy with uninspired tail-lights
I've always liked these Rivieras....I've been trying to locate a '75 as it is the year I was born. I drove a '74 for a few days and have wanted one ever since. Thanks for the upload.

I had one for about three weeks, a typical G.M. rattletrap. Cheap plastic interior etc. I traded it for a 74 montego and went back to enjoying total performance as only a FORD can deliver. Im not sure if it was the poor engineering or the UAW hillbillys that made this riv such a dog
Now when I look at this commercial over and over again I must say.. Damn that grill is nice!! The 75 grill and the 72 trunk put together could have made the absolutely coolest ride in the world!
I do own a 75 Riviera as well as a 73 boattail; those are two different cars IMHO; the luxury and smooth driving made the 75 ahead of its time. The 73, for most people, has the looks for certain (specially the rear, but 74-76 had a special rear as well: extra blinkers and stop lights just under the rear window (like Olds Toronados had them).
GM styling Chief Bill Mitchell has said that the design was meant to be put on a narrower, A body car - similar to the way the Grand Prix was put on the intermediate chassis for '69. I think it would have been a lot cooler it it were narrower.
GREAT car!!b My '76 is better than my boattail in so many ways--more refined. I've taken long trips in each. The '76 can go 120 mph effortlessly through the rocky Mountains. The '73 Boattail is cool, but it seems noiser. Although I like both, the '76 is my favorite of those two
My parents bought one of these brand new in '75. I learned to drive with it in the '80s. It was a beautiful silver color and hell to parallel park.

Once big, fast, flashy, and glamorous, by 1975 the Riviera was merely big. Still has 100% more character than most moderns, though.

Ugh... the huge bumper reqts of the time ruined the looks of this era of car. They never recovered from that till now.

The late 70s Rivieras are cool and all but I can't understand why GM dropped that beautiful boat tail trunk..?
Maybe it was ahead of its time and didn't quite meet the design standards of its present era?
Any old geezers around that can answer? ;)

Crappy gas mileage being an 8 cylinder engine.
10 miles per gallon, but then again, gas was real cheap back then ...in 1975, gas prices were around 30 cents a gallon.
