i suppose its harmless as long as everybody respects one another and has fun together even tho I think its stupid to compare an awesome street dance which specialises in flashy moves and a street fight art which was meant as a means to fight early slave oppression. they're both related somehow.
@EMJAYFAB eh bboyins is not jus a puerto rican thing. Blacks created it and puerto ricans got involved, that put bboys on their backs. Aswell gave it flavor while blacks gave it, its groviness and footwork.

capoeira and breakdance slightly different things ...
But in breakdancing steeper movement in his arms, and the steeper capoeira flips and jumps ... so breykdansery certainly would have won =) although I myself do capoeira, as it attracts me most - for me better martial art than a dance ...
... Capoeiristas do not need to battle against breakdancers... I totally agree with KayNyle13... You cannot compare breakdancing with capoeira... Trust me.. I know
loll!! I'm a capoeirista..capoeira is my life. I can tell you that even though theres similar ''concepts'' ..they are not to be mixed. Capoeira is a game and a fight DISGUISED as a dance.. In a capoeira Roda sometimes things can get really nasty, we do hit each other for real, full contact, at times..as long as it's done to the proper berimbau rythm. Of couuurse breakdancing will win at a dance battle..but a breakdancer would soooo get his ass kicked in a Roda lol..wouldn't even be funny.
My point is that they are two totally different things..not to be compared at all in skills. One is a creative dance, sometimes mimickin a fight while the other is a true fighting system, sometimes mimicking a dance. This is why a breakdancer will alwz win a dance battle..and why a breakdancers can't even THINK about stepping in a capoeira roda. So please..stop comparing both ''dance'' styles because one is not even a dance, but a true fighting art.
breakdance eu não sei se é de origem africana, mas Capoeira é de Origem brasileira. Eu sou do Brasil e faço capoeira, se eu tive algum erro gramatical no Inglês, me desculpem. Eu sei pouco de Inglês.
breakdance I do not know if it is of African origin, but Capoeira is a Brazilian Origin. I'm from Brazil and capoeira do if I had a grammatical error in English, sorry, I know a little English
@msfmcl well, what ever you say, but, capoeira is developed by the african slaves that lived in brasil, so the root is somehow African! if you see the instruments used in capoeira like brimbau, its all African thing.
@msfmcl Capoeira came from africa where it was originally called N'golo or Zebra dance. African slaves were taken to Brasil by the Portuguese and some of the slaves escaped and progressed it onto a fighting style. These slaves then went back into the camps and taught others how to fight while playing the music so to fool the slave traders that it was a traditional dance. This is one possible explanation and one that I have heard from many Mestres in my club and others. BBoyin is porto rican.
Very interesting. In this case, the Capoeira boys dominated. I'm sure you can find even better people for each discipline, though. I enjoyed the air flares and tricking at the end, very smooth.
@coCHINO691 Please calm down. They can use it in whatever way they want. Althought i agree that they shouldnt be their if they want to be true capoeiraists, it's their choice.
The music to bboying and Capoeira both are terrible in my opinion. I love both of these art forms, but I cannot for the life of me see how anyone can dance to the musics of them.

@biiomarcs well for your information I was already corrected that capoera's not made by gypsy's it came from salves... BTW just so you know it IS a dance... a FIGHTING STYLE discguised as a dance for fending off the harassments of their oppressors.. if you know wikipedia that much you should know that some facts their are wrong... wikipedia is written by ordinary people if you want to know everything about capoera do not rely on the internet..
@bigbutlittlebrother thank you for your explain and everything..now look better than gypsys origin...so so i can say what i want what i know and what i life... BECAUSE CAPOEIRA IS MY LIFE STYLE... capoeira is a fight...if you know so much try to fight with a capoeirista and than you can see who gonnas dance!!!!!! but now my question..do you do capoeira? or what a kind of sport do you do?
Capoeira is a martial art created by african slaves in barazil disquised as a dance so that their slave owners and others would not recognize their practice of it. It was a self-defense
I'm a capoeiristra. The bboys were loosin' in the beginning. But, the capoeira guys got redundant in terms of showing off new moves. Towards end, the last two breakers did some great things that the capoeiristras couldn't match. In my school, lots of people can do the head spin, but no one here answered back to the bboys. The final breaker won it. I dunno what you call that, but the caopoeira boys couldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. I am dubbing that last move "The Black Tornado" !
apples and oranges....you can't compare. I've been a bboy since high school and have done capoeira for the last 4 years. You can't compare the two. In this video, if you want to win the crowd, the bboys should have stuck to power moves. Overall I feel that the breakers won. Capoeira is a game mainly between 2 people. capoeira is very much emotions to. honestly at this point i dont know what my life would be like if i hadn't found capoeira.both are amazing art forms though.

bboy = fight battling but never touching the opponent, having fun and expression as a dance
cap = fighting style, having fun and expressing through a disguised dance
they both almost have similarities! but bboy didnt come from cap BUT bboy actually came from almost everything throgh movies, martial arts, gymnastics, cap and so on
so actually cap is a piece used for bboy its an influence so respect bboy and cap cuz at the end this battle just 4 fun
amigao se deve entender q capoeira è uma arte uma luta um verdadeiro estilo essas merdas aqui nem conseguiriam usar essa porra di breakdance contra nehuma pq nao è nada XD this capoerista is a med skill
whatch out Mestre Narcelio and comparating whit this shit called breakdance
capoeira rulez
pls gAys... stop comparating this shit whit capoeira
NO COMPAREN LA CAPOEIRA CON EL BREAKDANCE!!!!!.......LA CAPOEIRA ES MUCHO MAS DIFICIL...MUY APARTE QUE NO ES UN BAILE SINO MUCHAS COSAS UNIDAS EN UNA SOLA LA CAPOEIRA ES ARTE,LUCHA ,DANZA, CULTURA..MIENTRAS QUE EL BREAK DANCE ESTA MUY LEJOS A SER COMPARADO CON LA CAPOEIRA..HAY GENTE QUE MUERE EN RODAS DE CAPOEIRA MIENTRAS QUE EN EL BRAKDANCE A LO MUCHO SE ROMPEN EL CUELLO...olviden el tema muchachos!!!!
I think it would be better if people will stop trying to fit Capoeira into categories or boxes. It is a moving art and one that is impossible to truly define.
Bboying did not come from capoeira. I love how the so called experienced bboys commenting on this thread keep calling it breakdancing. Bboys in the 70s didn't even know what the hell capoiera was. It borrowed more from old 70s martial art movies than anything. Capoeira style "hollowbacks" and other moves didn't start getting incorporated into bboying until the 90s. Cats like Kmel,Blitz(alien squad),and Circle of Fire started doing more abstract moves that you can see capoiera influence.
lol werd, i hate it when people associate the origins of bboying with capoeria. I blame it on Tekken, ever since the appearance of Eddy Gordo in Tekken 3, one of his special moves was a flare and windmill, so people assumed "oh capoeria and "breakin" are the same thing."
@Atrodad What? The bboys did everything the capoeiras could do plus more, and made it look even better. And, plus they flow better. The capoeira should just stick to their martial arts; they're no good at breakdancing.
I disagree with everything you just said because its not breakdancing, otherwise, it wouldn't be BREAKDANCING vs CAPOERIA. Its not about breakdancing, breakdancing is the style competing here, because otherwise, I could say that the breakdancers are no good at capoeria. They have speed, they lack agility and movement. The Capoeria guys lack speed and style, but hell, opinion says it looks cooler than BDancing because its an actual martial art/has that potential.
So you think you're damnn "fair" just because you support capoiera? Just saying.
The bboys definitely has more style and looks more like dancing. Nobody would say you're biased if you say the bboys are better. Look what can those capoiera fighters do? flips? kicks? i doubt they look like their dancing.
Seems so because you don't take into account that the capoeiristas were also able to abort their acrobatics and go into defensive stances while keeping their fellow players in check. Capoeira is meant for 2 players so it's impossible here to show all precision and balance. Would be interesting to see if breakdancers could make flairs really close to each other and interact while doing so for example. When making solos, i agree, the breakdancers have an edge.
I agree, it's a shame a wider variety of Cap' moves were not showcased and there were many opportunities such as with the handstands etc. BBoys won on attitude too, but that is to be expected
break dance is a battle of style and rythim, capoeira is a battle of violence, in these days violence generate violence, in bboying the most important rule is never touch you opponent, the only physical contact is in a handshake or a hug at the end of the battle, capoeira is a slave´s figth for the woman or the food
capoeira is not about violence. its about expression, friendship, and fun. thats the great thing about capoeira. for something that came from so much discrimination, there is none.capoeirista are apart of of a community of friends that may not even know each other.
Man I'm a B-boy and capoerist, the capoeira is a battle of violence I never touch my friend while we're doing capoeira, I never hurt him and never touch mi friends while we're bboying both things are relationated with the fun and the respect
I ask you don't talk about things that are unknowed for you. Respect and Peace man
PD: I'm sorry for my bad english, I don't speak english
Capoeristras take example just as much from b-boys,One hand hop, flares airflares, inverts, head spins windmills, airchairs, ive seen all these done either in rodah or soledad.b-boying came from capoeria about as much as capoeria came from b-boying(meaning not at all)thet have a compleately seperate history .this vid was bad example of boath art-forms anyway since barely any of the" b-boy"team were even bboys and there were no traditional songs for the (novice)capoeristras.
actually alot of breakdancing moves came from a capoeira mestre that moved to new york in the 70's. the head spin capoeira move pia de cabaca, and then the au batido. it doesnt matter though both art form do have their own history.
U don't like 2 see girls shake it hun??? I suppose from your remark dat you r mr superfly bboy and have all d moves, but if by any chance you jus being negative because it make you look like you know more,be quiet please i was happily buzzing off d vid and d debate...
talkin that shit bluegreen wheres your videos at? at least i can back my shit up,i bet your just some chubby fucker who types all day and cant touch his toes let alone do a hand stand.
her toes, pretty bendy as it happens and not on computer all day waiting for people to reply to my comments. i apologise as i see now dat u know yr shit, but at d same time i don't get why d negative attack on some happy party video with a nice vibe... d world is not an ego battle ...unless you make it. peace
no one wins. this is like comparing baseball and a chess game.. capoeira is a martial art. the jumps are for show and have nothing to do with. they they do them but really capoeira is about the fight not the flips or tricks. capoeira is awesome and so is b-boying. i love both but they cant be battled against
but actually capoeira doesn't have too many jumps and movements like breakdance... if you want to you can learn them... but they aren't part of capoeira (all of them)
Capoeira is good in its own way, it's a skill on its own. Breakdance does have really good modern, innovative, and difficult dancing moves. Capo is based on a more traditional dance and martial art. They have similar elements but you can't really compare the two since they're both from two different systems.
capoeira is dope as hell but if u compare them and on a battle for dopest, most diffuculty, fresh, craziest! breaking is way crazier and way more difficult! plus fresh as hell! and bboys dance and got urban rythem! cant even compare them really! another level type of shit! plus capoeira is a martial arts culture type stuff and would kick some serious ass on the real type of shit.....where breaking is a show off type shit! El Cabron
Capoeira was a dance invented in brqazil so the slaves could "have fun".
But times to times there were always conflicts between employ and employed, so the slaves uses the dance(capoeira) to "discuise" the real fight so that they could resist.
if you look harder and better in the internet you will see that also exists another variatiopn of "capoeira",, called "capoeira angola", and in that version of capoeira it's the real dance no fight. sorry for my grammar but i'm portuguese
That's half true, and you being Portuguese, you should know that Capoeira was created by a mix of different Brazilian and African cultures who developed the fighting style to protect themselves, it was disguised as a dance so that slaves could practive the martial art without their masters knowing what they were up to. It was officially labelled a dance in the 1920s to make it more socially acceptable under the public eye as prior to that, it was only known as an illegal fighting style.

cap and bboy are almost the same but different
bboy = fight battling but never touching the opponent, having fun and expression as a dance
cap = fighting style, having fun and expressing through a disguised dance
they both almost have similarities! but bboy didnt come from cap BUT bboy actually came from almost everything throgh movies, martial arts, gymnastics, cap and so on
so actually cap is a piece used for bboy its an influence so respect bboy and cap cuz at the end this battle just 4 fun

I think it would be better if people will stop trying to fit Capoeira into categories or boxes. It is a moving art and one that is impossible to truly define.
phey120 2 years ago
Bboying did not come from capoeira. I love how the so called experienced bboys commenting on this thread keep calling it breakdancing. Bboys in the 70s didn't even know what the hell capoiera was. It borrowed more from old 70s martial art movies than anything. Capoeira style "hollowbacks" and other moves didn't start getting incorporated into bboying until the 90s. Cats like Kmel,Blitz(alien squad),and Circle of Fire started doing more abstract moves that you can see capoiera influence.
bboyillscience 2 years ago
It's not a chicken and egg thing, I just thing people are drawn to the similarities between the 2 genres. Well, I am personally
1DashMan 2 years ago
lol werd, i hate it when people associate the origins of bboying with capoeria. I blame it on Tekken, ever since the appearance of Eddy Gordo in Tekken 3, one of his special moves was a flare and windmill, so people assumed "oh capoeria and "breakin" are the same thing."

@UnknownFromHeaven
I totally agree.
you couldnt be more right.
Atrodad 1 year ago
@Atrodad What? The bboys did everything the capoeiras could do plus more, and made it look even better. And, plus they flow better. The capoeira should just stick to their martial arts; they're no good at breakdancing.
hot4art 1 year ago
I disagree with everything you just said because its not breakdancing, otherwise, it wouldn't be BREAKDANCING vs CAPOERIA. Its not about breakdancing, breakdancing is the style competing here, because otherwise, I could say that the breakdancers are no good at capoeria. They have speed, they lack agility and movement. The Capoeria guys lack speed and style, but hell, opinion says it looks cooler than BDancing because its an actual martial art/has that potential.
Momentum139 1 year ago
@Atrodad
So you think you're damnn "fair" just because you support capoiera? Just saying.
The bboys definitely has more style and looks more like dancing. Nobody would say you're biased if you say the bboys are better. Look what can those capoiera fighters do? flips? kicks? i doubt they look like their dancing.
Bboys ftw <3

there is "NOTHING" to battle between Capoeira and Breakdance
bboyiya 2 years ago
If Capoeira is about balance and concentration, it looks to me like the breakers had more balance and precision. Much more complex moves.
jeditight 2 years ago
Seems so because you don't take into account that the capoeiristas were also able to abort their acrobatics and go into defensive stances while keeping their fellow players in check. Capoeira is meant for 2 players so it's impossible here to show all precision and balance. Would be interesting to see if breakdancers could make flairs really close to each other and interact while doing so for example. When making solos, i agree, the breakdancers have an edge.
BTW last guy really killed it... wow
misterkami2 2 years ago
I agree, it's a shame a wider variety of Cap' moves were not showcased and there were many opportunities such as with the handstands etc. BBoys won on attitude too, but that is to be expected

break dance is a battle of style and rythim, capoeira is a battle of violence, in these days violence generate violence, in bboying the most important rule is never touch you opponent, the only physical contact is in a handshake or a hug at the end of the battle, capoeira is a slave´s figth for the woman or the food
peace and respect
BbOyViCiOuWsKy 2 years ago
capoeira is not about violence. its about expression, friendship, and fun. thats the great thing about capoeira. for something that came from so much discrimination, there is none.capoeirista are apart of of a community of friends that may not even know each other.
chross1984 2 years ago
dude who da hell told you that capoeira is violence-related? it may be for self defense but its not like its violent and shit...
trainingninja 2 years ago
Man I'm a B-boy and capoerist, the capoeira is a battle of violence I never touch my friend while we're doing capoeira, I never hurt him and never touch mi friends while we're bboying both things are relationated with the fun and the respect
I ask you don't talk about things that are unknowed for you. Respect and Peace man

NatoRawk 2 years ago
actually alot of breakdancing moves came from a capoeira mestre that moved to new york in the 70's. the head spin capoeira move pia de cabaca, and then the au batido. it doesnt matter though both art form do have their own history.
chross1984 2 years ago
true there was a variation to the au batido too right?
trainingninja 2 years ago
love way history, tradition is like a dance disguised as a fight or a fight diffused by a dance.... both are beautiful. To learn check:

no one wins. this is like comparing baseball and a chess game.. capoeira is a martial art. the jumps are for show and have nothing to do with. they they do them but really capoeira is about the fight not the flips or tricks. capoeira is awesome and so is b-boying. i love both but they cant be battled against
elsanchokaki 2 years ago
DAng,a poison airflare....Its super hard.!!!
ameer2109 2 years ago
i agree they can't be compared...
but actually capoeira doesn't have too many jumps and movements like breakdance... if you want to you can learn them... but they aren't part of capoeira (all of them)
kavi089 2 years ago
Capoeira is good in its own way, it's a skill on its own. Breakdance does have really good modern, innovative, and difficult dancing moves. Capo is based on a more traditional dance and martial art. They have similar elements but you can't really compare the two since they're both from two different systems.
HomedudePedroski 2 years ago
capoeira is dope as hell but if u compare them and on a battle for dopest, most diffuculty, fresh, craziest! breaking is way crazier and way more difficult! plus fresh as hell! and bboys dance and got urban rythem! cant even compare them really! another level type of shit! plus capoeira is a martial arts culture type stuff and would kick some serious ass on the real type of shit.....where breaking is a show off type shit! capoeria 1 on 1
Capoeira was a dance invented in brqazil so the slaves could "have fun".
But times to times there were always conflicts between employ and employed, so the slaves uses the dance(capoeira) to "discuise" the real fight so that they could resist.
if you look harder and better in the internet you will see that also exists another variatiopn of "capoeira",, called "capoeira angola", and in that version of capoeira it's the real dance no fight. sorry for my grammar but i'm portuguese
sharkchild696 2 years ago
That's half true, and you being Portuguese, you should know that Capoeira was created by a mix of different Brazilian and African cultures who developed the fighting style to protect themselves, it was disguised as a dance so that slaves could practive the martial art without their masters knowing what they were up to. It was officially labelled a dance in the 1920s to make it more socially acceptable under the public eye as prior to that, it was only known as an illegal fighting style.
rachandmat 2 years ago
it's true all right, the capoeira is a batle disguised in to a form of dance and it mixes several multures from african and brazilian.
But one thing is for sure, capoeira it's the real deal and break dance just copy moves from capoeira
