Texas chainsaw massacre - mostly based off serial killer ed gein he didnt use a chainsaw he used a pistol The real Ed Gein did wear a human's scalp and face. The real Ed Gein did this however, to help quell his desire to be a woman, not because of a skin disease as with Leatherface in the film. Also included in his uniform, Ed Gein wore a vest of skin complete with breasts and female genitalia strapped above his own

All of those are VERY VERY loosely based on true incidents. Wolf Creek is actually 3 different incidents combined. Jaw is loosely based on a shark that traveled up a river and killed some boys swimming around 1915-18.

TCM is NOT based on true events, contrary to popular belief. Hooper came up with the idea for TCM whilst trying to get out of a crowded shop. He thought using a chain saw would be a quicker way out of the shop. Ed Gein, the butcher of plainfeild did wear skins from the dead and dug up graves too, but he never used a chainsaw.
