Take the Vietnam war, just as it became clear that victory was possible and easily in sight, just as the VC and NVA were devastated during the Tet Offensive, the public pulled the plug, a few years later the last of the troops withdrew and a few years later again, Saigon fell.

And 60,000 Americans died for nothing.

For gods sake make the abandoning of these outposts worth it, or the fallen would have died in vain.

you forgot to mention all the SAW lmgs jammed and most of the soldiers M4 carbines jammed. Thats what made most of the battle go wrong. It was a Taliban mission from a local tribal unit no alqeada involved. The US military said only 1000 alqeada operatives are in afghanistan. This was a textbook assault by the taliban most casualties where in the guard tower.

@aciecargill The real reason the base was attacked so violently was because the Army was planning to shut down that base anyways. The biggest mistake was that the Soldiers told the village elders. The elders ended up telling the Taliban. So the Taliban thought they could get a propaganda victory. Since once they attacked and were defeated it would still look like they caused the Americans to close the base. Thats the truth, I know a guy who was there

I was stationed in the same AO as wanat and had a bunch of buddies that were w/ c co 62nd eng who helped fortify the outpost!

my buddy got shot and my squad leader and other guys my old platoon were there!

They were black on water the entire time, the m4's were jamming from so much ammunition and carbon build up, I got some unreleased photos of the aftermath

imo it was the brass at fault they put the base at a horrific spot tactically!

If you watch the video again you will notice that I never trashed any of the soldiers. This video was done in their honor. I was critical of the American policy of sharing information with the local residents and also critical of the headquarters decision of establishing a base that was not needed, not properly defended. and abandoned. That is what made the deaths of these brave soldiers wasted.. Sorry I didnt make that clear (and it was necessary to use some pictures not at Wanat). acie c
