Disagree that the 'Canes never played an elite team. They played 5 teams ranked in the top #15 and I believe 7 bowl teams. They outscored their opponents 512 to 117. Crazy good. Not to mention their dismantling of Nebraska in the championship and the biggest margin of victory in history against back-to-back ranked opponents. Beating #14 Syracuse 59-0 and then the next week beating #12 Washington 65-7. Last, in terms of pure talent, no one comes close in terms of NFL Talent.

We had the #1 overall defense in the country and #2 overall offense in the country that year annd outscored our oppenents 461-115 throughout the course of the whole season, which included away wins against bowl teams at Stanford, at Nebraska, and at Cal.

i think it would be pretty close between 95 huskers and the 01 canes. I have been trying to decide which. I think that the huskers might just be a little better with their rushing attack they were good with their passing and the canes were pretty good running and their passing was pretty good also but i think that 95 huskers might have them beat but hey thats just my opinion

I think you can only go by what youve seen in your lifetime...but here would be my list starting around 1986, i believe all these teams were unbeaten but i might be mistaken.

1- Nebraska 95

2- Alabama 92

3- Miami 87

4- Miami 01

5-Ohio State 02

what a terrible list, 01 canes aren't better than the 95 huskers. if they had played oregon in the nc with similar results they might get more recognition. also, the team nebraska beat in the nc, was actually making claims to be one of the best of all time, that florida team was that good, and look what nebraska did to them. 04 trojans are overrated in my book. i can't say whether auburn would have beat them, but auburn faced the toughest schedule of the 3 teams.

@driver8train i never said that miami wasn't one of the best teams, personally i don't think the 92 alabama team was good enough to in a top 10 list of time, not when you've got the 91 huskies, 71 nebraska, and to throw a couple of really old school (but amazing teams) the mag magicians of michigan in 47, and pretty much any of the mid 40s army teams. that bama team was good, but not good enough to stack up with the absolute best of all time (at least that's my opinion)

I think great defenses win championships and 92 bama was tough as nails, but its all subjective

@driver8train honestly, i'm only 23, so 86 is even before my time, but don't let my age fool you, i know alot about football history. i'm totally with you on the defense wins championships, the 92 team was good, i think why, i don't know if you remember this, but leading up to the 2002 nc game (osu vs miami), people were comparing osu to the 92 alabama team as a reason not to underestimate them in that game. still though my all time fav nc game was miami vs osu

@driver8train for the record while i'm an osu fan, when speaking about history i do try to take an unbiased point of view. for 71 nebraska, they played in arguably one of the toughest conferences of all time (big 8 at the time), oklahoma and colorado finished #2 and 3 in the country respectively, the game against oklahoma was called game of the century, and from what i've read is still considered one of if not the best games of all time.

@driver8train if you want to look at a very underrated defensive team, look up 59 ole miss, while they suffered 1 loss (which they avenged in the bowl game), they went 10-1 having 8 shutouts, they only gave up 21 points that entire year. a cool fact is also that while oklahoma won the most games of any team that decade, ole miss won the 2nd most amount of games that decade, sorry random fact i know. i'm sorry bout the mass messaging

@gamelvr1 hey good stuff, i'm 38 and been a huge college football buff my entire life, being a buckeye fan myself since i was a kid playing pee wee football on saturdays raised in ohio, listening to the 79 team wit Schlicter at QB..great childhood memories...im sure 2002 means the same to you and it is by far my favorite moment of all time when we upset heavily favored miami and finally won a title. It seemed like forever, especially after all the suffering against michigan in the nineties

@driver8train 2002 truly was a season for the ages. for a diehards like us, it was great to see it finally happen after grueling close calls (96 and 98 stand out to me) heck i even soldiered through watching the 02 michigan game with a broken rib and in serious pain. while i never played peewee, i played a bit in high school, heck when i was little, i was big daddy dan wilkinson whenver i played around with a football with friends. since we're both buckeye fans, do you want to be friends on here

Yes, miami probably would have beat oregon or colorado in 2001, but it doesn't change the fact that either team was far more deserving then nebraska. Auburn and USC was clearly the two best teams. Auburn faced the toughest schedule of the 3. Auburn deserved the chance to play for the title, and were screwed out of it.
