Great video really helped me out with my e46! Nice to see an instructional vid by a brit too, trawled through loads of yank ones which didnt help at all. Top walkthrough!
@DebenDave I have a 2002 E39 with the diamond shaped key. can you post something for that or direct me to a known source. i've been looking everywhere.
Being in America. That make you buy a new key. No battery replacement. I just paid $250 US. If the Germany can steal money from the US they will. I don't think my next purchase will be a BMW.
Excellent set of instructions. Can you do one for a BMW 525i, year 2003 model key, too? (US model, just in case European models have a different kind of key). Thanks.
Excellent video but i would like to say that in my 528i -96, the battery is not the same, there is 2 smaller ones. So check what kind of battery you got in your key so you dont make the same misstake to buy 2 of those CR2016 as i did.
hmmm my last com.. was taken off! the e39 key charges its-self while driving do not open the key if it does not work your car battery may be low in charge r the the key needs to be reset {this is from bmw} this guy is not even using a e39 key I have my 3rd e39 and have never seen the key hes using check ur car batterys charge if that ok go for a long drive and if this does not work go to bm try reseting key and if that does not solve it then u got bigger probs
I dont know where you are coming from this is the only type of key that the BMW E39 was issued with at least in the UK and it does not charge from the car as the battery is not of the rechargeable type. This is why I took off your previous comments. Anybody else like to comment about this?
just saying ur keys must be the only diff on on bmw sites {& owner manual} says the e39 keys do charge mine was dead 2weeks ago with cold weather long drive perfect again hmmm just advising people not to open the proper keys u will kill it sorry mate after watching ur video was trying to get mine open untill i looked in to it further

so with this car i need four keys

@harri38 You dont need fours keys but that is what the car is supplied with when new. The car of course will work with just one key.

Dear Dave, Thanks for the BMW videos. Your simple explanations give me confidence to work on my own 328 i, 1996 here in Florianopolis, Brazil.
