It says somewhere (I think, possibly at the start of the game itself) that Mary was ill for three years, which may be where James is getting the three years from. From the point she got ill he considered her already dead in some way.

Well... he did. He showed up to Silent Hill with that piece of paper, saying it had a message written on it from his wife. But then you get to this point in the game, and that piece of paper is actually blank.

Plain and simple, Alma was less crazy. She had psychic powers and tortured people, but she never created her own hell, she made other people's. Also, I have never encountered any Silent Hill material before this, soooooooo, Wikipedia!

I don't think Laura's in an 'underworld' at all. She's in Silent Hill like the rest of 'em, but since she's an innocent kid, there aren't any monsters or chasms or whatnot. It's just an abandoned town to her.

They're talking about the 'otherworld', which is where people are after the siren sounds in the original Silent Hill and the movie.

James doesn't really go there as the people in other games do, at least not as far as I believe.

The problem with thinking she's real because James leave Silent Hill with her is that one ending has you leave the town with Maria, and I wouldn't say she's 'real'.

Of course, the "Leave" ending with Laura is the ending where James stops being insane, so it has some merit to proving her existence.

Chiron, you and I must have a huge talk about Silent Hill two. I'd love to hear what you think about the game timeline/theme wise.

Personally, I believe that Laura can't see any monsters or chasms because she's innocent. I also think that's the general thought between players.

I'd love to hear your ideas on all the big questions of the game. Like, did Mary really die three years ago?

Is Laura supposed to be dead as well? That's the only way I can see her being in the otherworld of Silent Hill, evil or not.

What we see is what James sees...but not what anyone else does. There is a clue to this later on. Basically, Laura is just playing in an abandoned town and sees no monsters...even when James see s the 'otherworld'. Thats why she asked 'why?' earlier, when James told her to be careful!

But that's the point. If Laura is so good, why is she in otherworld? I understand that she sees the town abandoned, but she is really the only pure character that has ever been dragged into the otherworld by the town. The only way I think this would be possible is if she was dead, and this was her afterlife.

Later, we see how Angela sees the 'otherworld', because it becomes so powerful to her that James sees it too...Perhaps that works in other circumstances, and people around James can start to see what he sees...

Maybe, but my point is is how did Laura get into the otherworld since she's so innocent? Remember, everyone else had a deep rooted problem, except for Laura. So how did Laura get into the otherworld? My theory is that she died, but was brought there to guide James in a way.

Laura being dead is probably the most likely scenario, given the Hospital references...my point was just that there may be no 'otherworld' for Laura to be 'in'...James sees what his mind shows him, and Laura is just there, so he sees her, but she doesn't see any of the stuff James does.

Also, notice how we now see a mixture of Mannequins and Abstract Daddys...the only time before now we fought an Abstract Daddy was around Angela and she could see it, so it clearly came from her 'reality'...the Mannequins are from James' 'reality' and it's like the two are merging. Is it possible then that Angela's abuse took place in this Hotel?

Maybe she didn't? After all, you have the hospital and the alternate hospital, which are basically the same place, map/theme wise. Like DrFreemanstein said, maybe James saw the otherworld, but Laura just saw a hospital. After all, she saw a perfectly normal road where James saw... well, absolutely nothing. Silent Hill isn't the same place for James and Laura.

But that's a good theory. It puts a twist on the "did mary die three years ago" ideas. If Laura was really dead - whats the timeline now?
