I love Kuna Yala, the land of the Kuna people! It is the most beautiful place I've ever been and I've been to some spectacular places in various countries. The pure white sand is like powdered sugar. The water varies between turquois and deep blue. The only Island I visited was Ustupu which I haven
t returned to for over 40 years. But, I bet I could still find my way around there! I must return there. I must!
I like San Blas, I was there in 2007. Our boat when we left Cartagena, Colombia, was "flythekite" and there was also another group or girls from Sweden, Denmark, Israel. The israeli girl was the hottest one. I remeber they lost their captain Mark, who didnt show up early morning in Porto Bello to go to Panama City for visas, so i made them a favor and called him on the phone from my card, otherwise nobody had cellphones:) I was the only guy from Russia
This is amazing! Is the island essentially 100% kuna? That would make it so unique and even more intriguing. Do the people still speak their own language?
@coupleofbeers31 Yes they still speak their own language and the Panamanian Government respects their culture and traditions. That's why I Love Panama! Meaning Abondance of Fish Speacies...
Yes, the people were extremely friendly and welcoming - there are very few places for tourist lodging, however, so you'll need to plan well. Lodging in the islands is rustic but the people are amazingly hospitable. The variety of native cultures in Panama is beautiful, experience it if you can!
I lived in mexico for many years! I saw christian missionary. I think it's wonderful to help where there is need. But i do not believe holding a bible in one hand and offering a sandwich with another! It's wrong! I witnessed this for years! So please don't try to say it's not true. Give because it's the right thing to do! Not to feed your own ego!
It´s better that the missionaries work in our own western culture and triy to improve moral here than trying to change cultures who already live in harmony with themselves and their environment.. Why try to change a good culture (the aboriginal culture and religion) into something worse (the western culture and christianity)????
Thank you for putting this together. People who have never been to the San Blas Islands can get a good taste of what life is like, and what humbling circumstances that that they are in, yet how happy. I was on the islands for about 6 months as a missionary, and will be going back in a few weeks!
Don't you think doing this is irrevocably changing their culture, values, way of life, traditions, practices, and so on? Why not help without trying to convert their religion, traditions, worldview and culture?
WAS THERE YEARS BAGO,AND IT WAS WOUNDERFUL. tHE PEOPLE WERE THE MOST FRIENDLY i'VE EVER MET.

Wouldn't missionary-work wipe out this type of culture? They're happy, so let them be. Right??
