I was in Ukraine this summer and i find that to be so true...American airports give you the scrutiny because of 9/11...i was in Paris as well as Helsinki and flew into and out of Kiev and never had to take my shoes off...and in fact the most strenous part of that experience in Europe was getting through the customs at the arrival...

Course, when I left for the airport, it was in upstate NY, way WAY early in the morning, and there was a blizzard, and I ended up being pulled off the highway, slide into some mushy mud/grass, hit a metal highway indicator, and tore up the front of my car, destroying a headlight. Came back from Japan, and my car was covered by at least a foot of snow, and the battery was dead. Oh, also lost my brand new $250 camera while in Japan. Great vacation other than that.
