I'm not trying to stir up drama or anything like that, All I'm saying is that I have been Christian for 17 years of my life, and attended several different churches. and have learned and gained so little, It makes me wonder because i have a couple friends who are religious and the Christian religion seems so far fetched and like a complete load of shit. God's sun appeared on earth and died for our sins... and all we have for proof is what some 80 year old farmer wrote in a book. think about it.
If I listen to secular hip hop then no. it would not be something that Jesus would listen to because of its content and meaning. (Sex, cars, money, drugs, etc) On the other hand, if its gospel rap, rapping about what he did on the cross for us and about glorifying him then I'm all for it and I believe Christ would be too.
Some of todays Christian rappers such as Flame, Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashi and crossmovement are for real about Christ. Their lyrics brings God much glory. Amen?
i think music is a gife from god and sometimes people take that gife and use it for evil. all genres of music god created but he didnt create the evil in genres of music. if im praising god through rap....yup he hear me
The music is for us, I do not believe there is such thing as christian music, it cannot get saved, Christ came to set us free to save us, not music, but when we sing we praise God, even our fleshy bodies are not saved none of our organs, brain none of that, it is there to help us praise God tools.. Music is a tool, and is not a christian, it is not Christlike, but yes music inspires us, you still have to becareful of how the music is influencing our emotions...
I think it is ok because although gospel hip hop cannot save us,it can get us enthusiastic about Christ. The ones i listen to tell me not to waste my life, make war, and stop thinking that Im smarter than the Awesome Creator.
Pastor Mike.... youve changed my life i used to be addicted to crack, meth and was a regular pot user...now beacuse of you i am clean and have a family..thank u pastor mike
why all the arguing doun below,?, if you would watch part 2 you would see that pastor mike is not putting doun hiphop or music..but using it as a tool.. good work mike..
look u brainwahed asshole music comes from wayyyyyyyyy back it evolved into the modern world its called freedom if u wont a single minded world go to england and live in monarchy dumbass
First of all,as far as Christians go, I think I am very open minded and willing to discuss issues without trying to force my beliefs down anyone's throat. Furthermore, you chose to watch this video; nobody forced you, I did not solicit you to watch it. I am not imposing my beliefs on you. Finally, I do not go to your videos and spew hate speech. I would appreciate the same from you. Good day sir.
look bitch its ms not sir and first of all if god created all he must like hip hop duhhhhhhhhh it was in his fuckin divine plan to have hip hop evolve like it was in his pplan for jews to be in concenration camps and for aficans to be enslaved and for great leaders to be murdered and for people to be homeless so dnt get mad cuz theory is that of he were to exist he a fuckin bastered and repulsive murderer so dont get mad at facts jack
I am a christian rapper. Some people came to my house listened to one of my christian rap song and gave their lives to the Lord. Anything that glorifies Jesus is good. Paul talked about doing whatever was necessary to win souls for Christ. Christian Rap wins souls.
I think that listening and singing along to music is good, but it's not good to listen to negative stuff that doesn't glorify Him. If you are looking for good Christian music, try "Jacob's Generation" or "Third Day." Those are two that I like, especially(sp?) the former.
i think listening to christian music fills ur spirit keeps u full of joy and reminds u of the scripyures of christ i think there is a danger of making the church more like the world but also it is good for the young people to see that christianity is not boring and that its as much for the young as the rest of us i believe it can be used as a witnessing tool and also to take people away from the music of the world into something they can enjoy listening to and still learn of jesus i think
ur cool i think ur doin a very good job and i like the way u have asked for our comments i say keep up the good work may god keep u safe and bless ur ministry and i for 1 think ur doing the right thing and i realise that satan uses music to get to the young its refreshing to see a pastor with a heart for young people amen x
"You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the LORD your God am a jealous God,visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.---Exodus 20:3-6
Music whether Christian or secular is more important that message, beat, becomes carefully not to tempt us away from the Holy Spirit to the world. the trick of Satan is entertainment. We are vulnerable to being dulled and bored. Like food. Some Healthy Foods can taste delicious as much as Junk Food. The same applies spiritually with music for Christians.
i like rock, classic rock, elvis presley, oldies, sports, etc but they are not to run my life or meaning i should not flirt being as slave to that master. Whatever we are a slave to is our Master whether it is carnal sin nature,Satan, the World(Flesh) or the Holy Spirit.
Jesus HATES hip hop! I have verses to prove it! I think SOME Christian hip hop can be encouraging BUT we must be careful. Once these rappers start throwing clever words around, it can be easy to distort/change the truth very subtly due to rhyming reasons etc.
We all know the enemies oldest trick is to distort the truth and lead people in the wrong direction. The end result can be a watered down version of the gospel where "anything goes!" After all, it's for "JESUS," isn't it?

Jesus likes anything that gives him praise and glory to his name, "christian is just a title and should be focused on the Savior Jesus Christ, if Hip Hop edifies God and is encourages us to praise Our Lord and Savior , then YES, If it another form of worship and praise to God, then so be it! this is really a Ministry of sharing the gospel in a new generation way!!
Do all in the glory of God. Although I am a Sabbath keeper & not a Sunday believer, I still like Christian music in most all forms. I've heard some Christian Rock that I can't understand the words so to me, that's not sharing any gospel in all reality although I know that form of music may reach out to some, somehow. I like your laid-back approach & dig your videos. I'm sure you're a blessing to the youth. YES God loves music, it's all around us in nature! Whatever form we make in music-GLORY!
hey pastor mike!! well i think its really cool that ur doing sumthing for us christian teenagers!! i love that theres ppl like u actually doin sumthing not like ppl who just critizize u and dont do nuthing to help us out!! i love christian hip hop and if it gets me closer to Christ i think hes happy and yes i do think he likes it!! keep it up pastor mike!! God bless you!!
I think it's the lyrics that make the song sinfull, I think if the subject matter is appropriate then ya Jesus would like it, Idk, I speak because I write Christian music
What up Reazy? Well first off, I don't ALWAYS walk when I film (watch does jesus Like Hip hop pt. 2, join us in prayer, numbers, straight talk on hell, etc). I do like to walk, though. Second, when I was living in North Carolina a white tail deer came out of the woods on the side of the road and smashed right into my driver side fender. I promise he hit me, I did not hit him! Actually i think it was a she, but she ran off into the woods, i think she was fine!
I was told once by a good friend of mine that "if you would be embarassed listening to it with Jesus sitting next to you, you shouldn't be listening to it." And that's what I've gone by ever since.
hmmm... i dont think ALL hip hop is bad. If it has a good message it can't really influence us in a bad way. I think its cool to listen to christian music most of the time but its not like it'll kill me to listen to other stuff sometimes. Christian music can be very uplifting though... It makes me go on fire for God, i kno its different for everyone though :)
Personally, I think it's wrong to say what kind of things God likes, and things God does not like - aside from what he states in His word.
When we say "God doesn't like hip-hop" it's like we're putting God in a box saying, "This is what God is", and we can't do that. God is his own being; who are we to decide what his qualities are and are not?
I think jesus like many types of music. the only music i think he does not like is song that use his name in vein, dis on religions, and whomes words refer to the devil.
The Bible mentions the word trumpet 114 times. I have to believe that the ability to play an instrument or sing is a gift given to us by God. Much like our other gifts, we can choose to use them to glorify God or not.
Jesus said in Luke 19:40 "I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."
God gave us our gifts and much like how a father is pleased with the sound of his own child, as bad as he/she might be, God is pleased with our praise.
It says in the word that the devil is the master of the airwaves and I think this springs from the words which people speak being so powerful. the tongue can really bring people down and its hard to control.
However singing praises to God is such a great thing. The apossles used to sing praises to God and worship through song. Infact much of the book of psalms was originally written to music. so if you want to get close to God and show him you appreciation then praise him any way you can.
the good music that we should listen to as children of God is music that touches the soul. You need to feel God's presence when you listen to a song (and its always good to sing along because ur praising Go), death metal, christian rock, rap, etc... ummmm, i dont think that touches the soul and spirit.
why couldn,t that touch your soul my brother is in a christian hardcore band and they have helped people dealin with suicide drug addictions and other things
i feel that a lot of the new christian music like rock or rap have good words and a good meaning but when most people are listening to it (myself included) they dont even care about the words, they are just listening to it for the beat so that isnt good at all that isnt worship and we aren't bringing other to Christ if no one is paying attention to the lyrics. but i believe the artists are doing their best to try to reach the young generation.
At my church they said that it is bad to listen to evil music even though it may have christian words, because it makes demons come into you from the beat. BUT I think that it could help some non-believers hear the word, because it could be there only oppertunity to hear the word. I dont know! I want to hear the final awnser!!! :0)
and i dont think it matters what you listen to unholy music or not like death metal or black metal because u dont have to belive what that band belvies you just like the sound of the music.
I dont think it matters whether music is christian or not if you like the music. I mean, at the end of the day, its just sounds that appeal to people & its completely subjective. Theres no such thing as 'bad music' or 'satanic music' how can a specific frequency of note be inherently evil? In any case, as I say, I think Jesus would have been more likely to listen to metal than hip hop ;)
God created music. jist the the rest of His creation it is good. but if the song is against Christianity or about sinning, then it isnt good. But Christian music is great!! Its worshipping the Lord using His creation
i think that as long it brings a good message for us n to worship God, i think is okay but at the same time i believe that God wants something original, something fresh from us to him...
when a christian makes a chistian version of a song it's different. like Christian rock.... the singer(s)/band... heart is in Gods Love..etc. so that makes the song a different frequency then of the worlds taste in music... if were not for God then for not for Him...
Secular rock is nothing of God, their hearts are away from Him and their hearts are on something else when their making that song.
so if Our Hearts is for God then we make are own Melody to Him. Even if it's Christian Rock.
Disciple(Rock) Skillet(Rock) TFK(Rock) Becoming the Archetype(Metal) Demon Hunter(Metal) Pillar(Rock) One Minute Halo(Rock) FlyLeaf(metal/rock) UnderOath9Metal) Kutless(Alt) Just a few christian bands that are amazing Ive seen almost all of them in concert and they are siick!
Hey sleazypig.... check out some Toby Mac... then tell me christian music sux... also some family force 5... thats one hundred percent awesome christian musik! fo shiz!
Jesus said I and the father am one so technically Jesus was the son of GOD if you beleive in the holy trinity. It is a lot to get into to explain it so don't give responses like "Oh he was the son of GOD not actually GOD" Also Pastor Mike is doing the right thing spreading the message and I think some of hip-hop is ok but not all. I listen to a lot of hip hop but I'm sure GOD wouldn't like the swearing. And even though Rock is addictive it's the devils music. Shouldn't listen to that... :)
That's a prime display of Christian ignorance. You're making us look bad stop it. Rock is not the devils work, its magical and rad. Just because you listen to a certain type of music doesn't mean you embody every principle from said music. I listen to Iron Maiden. Number of the Beast is one of my favorite songs. Does that make me evil? No. Not in the least bit. It doesn't mean I'm a satanist, it means that I enjoy 80's metal and Iron Maiden influences me as a guitarist. Thats as far as it goes.
But there is such a thing as Christian rock, you know. It's a genre of music! It doesn't mean we worship the song or anything. (Okay, some people actually say they worship a band, but they don't mean it literally...)
And, hey, I even listen to Nightwish sometimes. And that's a heavy metal band. Does that make me a bad Christian? Not at all.
Swear words in songs make me unfortable, but I guess it is okay as long as the lyrics in the music desn't suggest doing bad things.
All right again I never said your a bad christian because if you follow christ you are not bad. Although you should know that the illuminati and freemasons control most rock and intend bad messages for it. There was this kid listening to music (I think Juda's preists) and the subliminal messages told him to kill himself so he shot himself with a shotgun... Also type in Led Zeppelin backmasked on youtube :)
you call yourself a pastor? we don't want to know what you think..we only want to know what the bible thinks, your just a man and the bible tells us not to follow man but God..and the word of God is the bible :)
its not like hes making rules over gods rules hes just trying to get the word out on the internet and now that he has hes just trying to be friendly..think about it
the term god does get pretty worn out on the radio,tv,and advertisements so as far as chritan music goes about the only band i would support making christan music is CREED
cause they dont just blair out god or repeatidly say god its more like if you know what i am saying or if you want to know what i am saying then leaves it open to bring up a discussion about the word of god
My personal belief is that music is no more of a distraction than existence as we see it on our own physical plane. It's just a distraction from God, heaven, and the spiritual world. So is Christian music. It is -all- the same. And if we were to look at how much Christian music actually draws people to Christianity, which may or may not matter, I would guess it turns more people off than attracts them. most spiritual people I know are set off by organized religion's self-fabricated rituals.
Satan cannot act against the will of God unless God is a weak, imperfect, and equally pathetic being. When "Satan's music" plays, or bad music if you will, it is part of the will of whatever governs the Universe no matter how you look at it. If the Universe is anarchy, anarchy allows it. If there is nothing but Science, Science allows it. If God (as I beleive) governs the Universe he/she/(other pronoun) allows it. That is logic. But what can we take from that knowledge?
When I listen to Pantera I don't want to hurt someone. That makes no sense. Can you feel it now isn't God speaking to anyone unless of course God considers the whole world speaking to us. You cannot do ANYTHING that God does not want you to do. God can stop you. If you do it, it is because God lets you. We're here to learn about ourselves, life, and God, not stay paralyzed in a state of fear created by organized religion~ or rather according to this... we are supposed to do exactly that
Satan never does anything wrong. He tests humans under God. He tests Adam and Eve. They fail. He tests Christ. Christ does not fail. In the Bible, he plays the same part as he does in Judaism, an angel who acts as God's "prosecutor". After reading the bible, I didn't come across anything about him ruling over hell :). All music is worldly. Nothing is sacred. It's a part of our existence in the world. Don't let music corrupt you and don't corrupt others and you're good. Music* isnt a problem
I think the issue is not as simple as words, rhythm, etc. I think what is important, Pastor Mike, is how a specific music makes you feel. I am a Christian, but I like Pantera; however, when I listen to it, I don't feel very filled with the spirit--I want to hurt someone. However, there are many other rock songs that are not Christian but are positive and dynamic ... and I feel full of the spirit when I hear them. Try "Can You Feel It Now" by Tremolo ... are the words God talking to us?
i like love songs and I like many songs by "worldly" artists but when you here a song that gives you any sort of feeling like hmmmm... this may not be a good thing for me to listen to I turn it off. I remember that satan was an excellent singer and is undoubtly using his favorite talent against us so we do need to be careful. but lets not go overboard folks, god and the angels sing and praise all day too.
I think Christian music is better than any other music.
Would God like hip hop... I have no idea Dx
Its okay to listen to Christian music because its worshipping our father in and outside of church :] My mom only allows Christian music, Techno, and NO rap... ;O i don't like rap anyways :P
honestly, i really don't like people who say they listen to christian music as if it's something that's required. "oh, i listen to christian rock." music for me is just entertainment, not that God shouldn't be included in my entertainment, but i just dont like it yeah
And in the same way if one is tempted sexually or to do drugs they should avoid music that'll get them thinking about that.
Far as Christian music goes I think similar thought should go into it. While there isn't overtly bad Christian lyrics some styles are more meaningful to different people and some they can't relate to.
I don't think there are necessarily hard and fast rules as far as music, but you should watch how it affects your thoughts and actions and make sure its in a Godly way.
i think that some hiphop can be bad but not all. i also think that they should make christan hiphop because it sends the same massage as all christan music, but a different beat. and i think that jesus likes christian hip hop because it sends the same massage as all christan music.
I don't think that there's a beat or style of music that is wrong. I think the lyrics of a lot of hiphop and rap are too focused on lust and drugs which aren't pleasing to God. Rock/metal/alternative often have a lot of hate and anger and sometimes sexual stuff that isn't very healthy to have a steady diet of either.
I think you really have to know yourself and if for example I had a tendency to get angry very easily and sin in my anger I should avoid lyrics that put me in that mindset.
Check out the Wade-O Radio Show on Itunes or on myspace for some of the best christian hip hop around. There will be no doubt in your mind that it's God inspired.
well the rap and hip hop most of it is singing of dirty stuff that no Christians should be talking about but some of the instrumentals are very catchy so maybe we could take a beat off one of the song and make up a new Jesus song
If Jesus felt like something drastic needed to be done about it, then he would come and take care of it himself. So as of right now, rater we like it or not, we are stuck with hiphop.
Personally, I like hiphop. Jesus may like hiphop, and he may not. But not all hip hop is bad. Like Toby Mac and Grits have a song, Ooh Aah. And it's hip hop/rap and it's not bad at all. I think Jesus respects that. I don't think he looks down upon the people who sing hiphop or rap music, even though most of those songs are rather vulgar, but I doubt he appreciates the messages they are sending out.
Part two- Maybe it does for others. But I think that if the world can't tell you are listening to christian music, or music that is praising/ worshiping/ honoring to God then that's just as bad as being a closet christian.
Part one- I was raised on hymns in the church. Nowadays I rarely hear a hymn in church. Now I mostly hear praise songs. I like some of them, but most of the time the name of Jesus or God is never mentioned. I don't like worship songs that could be taken as secular. That also goes with music that you can't understand the words clearly. Hip hop/rap/metal ect are like that to me. It's not pleasing to my ear and does not make me want to worship God.
I don't think Jesus likes hip hop, but I listen to hip hop and I am Christian. I listen to music because I like the beats. I sing along with the song because it is catchy, not because I like the lyrics. I dislike the lyrics, but I know them and they don't affect me. I even listen to rock, tencho, etc., basically any song with a nice beat.
then if they get into that so could christian hip hop or rock or w/e then it will be very easy for a christian to still listen to the normal hip hop or rock music.. because they sound similar so they won't worry to much about whats going on the radio..but when you listen to the lyrics, its taken about fornications and adultery lol so music is a very powerful weapon cause it gets your in different moods. but you have to be able to worship God in truth and know whats he wants and not what you want
jesus isnt your buddy you keep in your pocket hes your savior not some friend that wants to listen to 50 cent talk about being up in the club. music is a form of self expression and just because you like a song and it isnt christian dosnt mean its bad or wrong your listening this this persons story or point of veiw. most people like music becasue they can relate to it. do you think jesus can realte to being up in the club looking for a hoe? same thing goes for any other type of music
well I think that.. hip hop beats or style of music shouldn't be mixed with Holy music of gods because you listen to what the hip music mostly have in there music and its 98% sinful.. and even if you put similar beats or same style of rapping but rapping about jesus, is just a weak way of representing jesus, its saying we need this music that sounds very close to gangsta hip hop rapping about sexual nature to bring the young ones in. God does not want to mix worldly things with his truth! Amen.
i think if you are saved than its harder for you to sorta forget about the music u listened to before (hip-hop,rap, w/e)so whenever you do ask yourself this question you come up with a bunch of excuses,( i know this because i am expeiriencing this and learning that some habits a very hard 2 break!) but the truth is jesus probably doesn't like hip-hop... not all of it.
I have listened to christian rock Im not a big fan though but I CANNOT LET GO OF RUSH! they are my number one band they are not evil or anything but its just another old rock band if you know what I mean
music is not all about the lyrics most people think that though if you listen to a song about sex what if you just ignore the lyrics or a song with the f word i love music a ton and i think sometimes a i use it as a substitute for God but not because of the lyrics so that could happen with any music so im not saying dont lisen to music im trying to say dont use music as a substitute for God because it is a worldly thing but you can still use it to spreed the word of god
we can use music as an expression of our worship to Jesus. I believe that if our heart is truly in the worship (and not in the music) that we can honor God whether it's an acoustic ballad or rock or hip-hop. i think another thing to think about is that what ever music we use as worship, we should bring him the best. so as long as we are sure in our hearts that the worship we bring to him honors him, it can glorify Him. I also believe the Spirit will convict us if our music is wordly and selfish.
I think if musician expresses his or her self in a way that doesn't hurt others than it is fine. But if someone is hurt with the music than they should not make other people stop listening to it because everyone has a different life style and no one can tell them what is right and not right.
people have fallen victim to the concept that "Gospel" is a type of music... Gospel is not a type of music, the word Gospel itself means "good news" Gospel is a Message, and in musical terms Gospel is The Message Behind The Music and that is what should make the difference in the discernment of what music is acceptable by Christians or acceptable for the use of ministry or just simply entertainment, hip hop is a genre, a type of music used for the purpose of the person using it, its my Ministry
I'm a little undecided about this topic. I think that there is a limit, like Christian "death metal" for instance. I think that's an oxymoron.
But, I'm not sure where to put that limit. I go to a church that says any kind of music with a fast catchy beat with drums and guitar is not appropriate. But I'm not so sure, I think they limit it too much.
Do you happen to know what the Word says about it? I hate speculation!
Read Psalm 150. It is a short chapter, only 6 verses. When we sing praises to our God, it should be exciting! Not dead hymns sung by a bunch of dead Christians! Praise Him with dancing! Praise Him with a loud cymbal!
My friend, I don't understand why you think we are narrow minded....my video said the very thing you did; the type of music matters not, but the words are important!
check out my video response on "Does Jesus like Hip Hop - part 2".
Perhaps there is more to just picking bible verses to support your view point? I mean Hip Hop & everything will pass away. What remains? What is the real thing God will look at? Ummm... check out my reply vid cause I think the rabbit hole is deeper than most imagine.
actually, not all of us listen to music.. as an outsider to your musical addictions I can see things wrong with this hypnotic medium that you are clueless about.. using the power of music to deceive the nations satan continually promoted mans love affair with music.. no matter how low it gets it always seems like up to the dumbed down masses.
I definitely think Jesus would be interested in hip hop. Jesus didn't hang around the kinds of people that many would think that he would. And it seems to me, he is more interested in the lost, leaving his flock to pursue that one lost sheep... what better way then through secular music etc.?
Hmm, but Jesus didn't use secular means. We're talking about hip hop music, not hip hop secular message. Country, alternative, metal and other genres have Christian and secular sides. I think what was meant is using Christian hop hop to reach the lost who dig secular hip hop. I don't see how Jesus could use secular hip hop to save anyone, 'cept to let someone in that lifestyle reach rock bottom before He scoops them up.
Every person must discern for themselves what kinds of secular music are acceptable for them. For example. I love the band The Fray, they're music doesn't have Christian lyrics but the band members are all Christians. I also won't listen to music that has evil messages such as Eminem or most of the hip hop music of today. I like alot of older music too and it doesn't have Christian lyrics but it does not cause me to stumble listening to a good Billy Holiday song lol!!!! :)
Music gets into your head and many times we will sing a song over and over again that we hear. Better to be singing about Christ's love than anthing else.
There is nothing wrong with Christian music. Music gets in your head and you may end up singing a song you heard in the morning all day long, better it be a long about Christ's love for us than a song about shooting someone and having sex with a bunch of people. Every person must discern for themselves what they think is acceptable as far as secular music.
There is no such thing as Christian Music only Christian lyrics. I think Jesus likes when people are giving praise to his name whether it be through drums, piano, or beats. I don't think it matters because its not the sound of the music that makes it Christian it's the lyrics that are attached to it.
1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.
3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
I personally turned off my radio two months ago and do not listen to anything. Not that I hate music of all types but because I have made my morning and evening commute a prayer & medidation time. When I listen to music, I tend to judge each song on its own merits.
I think that any music that glorifies God is great - regardless of the style - but likewise - any music that does not glorify God is worthless. It doesn't matter if it's country, metal, hip-hop; if it isn't glorifying God it isn't worth our time...
pastorsw1 - I didn't say it wasn't enjoyable - all things are permissible - but not everything is beneficial - Im not saying you're wrong to listen to secular music - and I admit I can be extreme - its just how I view it. GBU & HJD! :)
Not all secular music is wrong, but one needs to sort through it with the mind of Christ. It's not about beat, but lyrics. The sound/beat of the music can in no way classify it as godly or ungodly. It's ALL about the lyrics. The same is so for Christian music. I like quite a few groups that carry a Christian label, but their lyrics don't really sway me to Christ. I say that we need to feel the beat and realize that it is just a beat. Lyrics determine whether or not it is good, bad, or God music.
Check out LaCrae - HipHop Christian that is legit - both in its Christianity and its beats - they have videos on Youtube for him too... HIGHLY recommend...
Have you ever heard Ready to Meet Him by DMX? One of my all time favorite songs, I think it's really relatable. To be honest, most Christian music I cannot relate to, well, that is the music under that genre. I have found some great Christian music not particularly labeled as such, that is more realistic to me by artists such as DMX, Dave Matthews, Tyrone Wells and even The Rolling Stones. "Real" people. People living the struggle.
METAL UP!

Amen?

I was confused like you, too. I had to STOP the mental tug-of-war --
And take responsibility for myself and my actions (AND what I support/listen to/watch)
Does Christian Rap music outline or describe any actual real solutions? Does it help anyone do anything but just "feel better/not so bad"?
Can you absolutely know that your answers to those are 100% true?

i think music is a gife from god and sometimes people take that gife and use it for evil. all genres of music god created but he didnt create the evil in genres of music. if im praising god through rap....yup he hear me

Sagefrancis01 3 years ago
the good music that we should listen to as children of God is music that touches the soul. You need to feel God's presence when you listen to a song (and its always good to sing along because ur praising Go), death metal, christian rock, rap, etc... ummmm, i dont think that touches the soul and spirit.

Can "WE" Christians listen to Non-Christian music?
Jecamacho07 3 years ago
i feel that a lot of the new christian music like rock or rap have good words and a good meaning but when most people are listening to it (myself included) they dont even care about the words, they are just listening to it for the beat so that isnt good at all that isnt worship and we aren't bringing other to Christ if no one is paying attention to the lyrics. but i believe the artists are doing their best to try to reach the young generation.
doram10 3 years ago
At my church they said that it is bad to listen to evil music even though it may have christian words, because it makes demons come into you from the beat. BUT I think that it could help some non-believers hear the word, because it could be there only oppertunity to hear the word. I dont know! I want to hear the final awnser!!! :0)

and i dont think it matters what you listen to unholy music or not like death metal or black metal because u dont have to belive what that band belvies you just like the sound of the music.
saltnpepainthe80s 3 years ago
I dont think it matters whether music is christian or not if you like the music. I mean, at the end of the day, its just sounds that appeal to people & its completely subjective. Theres no such thing as 'bad music' or 'satanic music' how can a specific frequency of note be inherently evil? In any case, as I say, I think Jesus would have been more likely to listen to metal than hip hop ;)

IDK...
i think that as long it brings a good message for us n to worship God, i think is okay but at the same time i believe that God wants something original, something fresh from us to him...
So you make the conclusions...
?!?!?!!?!?
laterz =]
cindymil230 3 years ago
when a christian makes a chistian version of a song it's different. like Christian rock.... the singer(s)/band... heart is in Gods Love..etc. so that makes the song a different frequency then of the worlds taste in music... if were not for God then for not for Him...
Secular rock is nothing of God, their hearts are away from Him and their hearts are on something else when their making that song.
so if Our Hearts is for God then we make are own Melody to Him. Even if it's Christian Rock.

devilkazuya0 3 years ago
That's a prime display of Christian ignorance. You're making us look bad stop it. Rock is not the devils work, its magical and rad. Just because you listen to a certain type of music doesn't mean you embody every principle from said music. I listen to Iron Maiden. Number of the Beast is one of my favorite songs. Does that make me evil? No. Not in the least bit. It doesn't mean I'm a satanist, it means that I enjoy 80's metal and Iron Maiden influences me as a guitarist. Thats as far as it goes.
aedmiston1 3 years ago
But there is such a thing as Christian rock, you know. It's a genre of music! It doesn't mean we worship the song or anything. (Okay, some people actually say they worship a band, but they don't mean it literally...)
And, hey, I even listen to Nightwish sometimes. And that's a heavy metal band. Does that make me a bad Christian? Not at all.
Swear words in songs make me unfortable, but I guess it is okay as long as the lyrics in the music desn't suggest doing bad things.
Chantesuta 3 years ago
All right again I never said your a bad christian because if you follow christ you are not bad. Although you should know that the illuminati and freemasons control most rock and intend bad messages for it. EXPchainsmoker 3 years ago
Shannaro18 3 years ago
Satan cannot act against the will of God unless God is a weak, imperfect, and equally pathetic being. When "Satan's music" plays, or bad music if you will, it is part of the will of whatever governs the Universe no matter how you look at it. If the Universe is anarchy, anarchy allows it. If there is nothing but Science, Science allows it. If God (as I beleive) governs the Universe he/she/(other pronoun) allows it. That is logic. But what can we take from that knowledge?
Shannaro18 3 years ago
When I listen to Pantera I don't want to hurt someone. That makes no sense. Can you feel it now isn't God speaking to anyone unless of course God considers the whole world speaking to us. You cannot do ANYTHING that God does not want you to do. God can stop you. If you do it, it is because God lets you. We're here to learn about ourselves, life, and God, not stay paralyzed in a state of fear created by organized religion~ or rather according to this... we are supposed to do exactly that
Shannaro18 3 years ago
i think its an alternative to world music because the lyrics arent telling us to sin but get closer to god
and if some youth hears christian music and is not christian its like preaching to them
brianruiz15 3 years ago
Satan never does anything wrong. He tests humans under God. He tests Adam and Eve. They fail. He tests Christ. Christ does not fail. In the Bible, he plays the same part as he does in Judaism, an angel who acts as God's "prosecutor". After reading the bible, I didn't come across anything about him ruling over hell :). All music is worldly. Nothing is sacred. It's a part of our existence in the world. Don't let music corrupt you and don't corrupt others and you're good. Music* isnt a problem
Shannaro18 3 years ago

And in the same way if one is tempted sexually or to do drugs they should avoid music that'll get them thinking about that.
Far as Christian music goes I think similar thought should go into it. While there isn't overtly bad Christian lyrics some styles are more meaningful to different people and some they can't relate to.
I don't think there are necessarily hard and fast rules as far as music, but you should watch how it affects your thoughts and actions and make sure its in a Godly way.
anchorboy2 3 years ago
i think that some hiphop can be bad but not all. i also think that they should make christan hiphop because it sends the same massage as all christan music, but a different beat. and i think that jesus likes christian hip hop because it sends the same massage as all christan music.
zakman1190 3 years ago
I don't think that there's a beat or style of music that is wrong. I think the lyrics of a lot of hiphop and rap are too focused on lust and drugs which aren't pleasing to God. Rock/metal/alternative often have a lot of hate and anger and sometimes sexual stuff that isn't very healthy to have a steady diet of either.
I think you really have to know yourself and if for example I had a tendency to get angry very easily and sin in my anger I should avoid lyrics that put me in that mindset.

crackengine 3 years ago
well the rap and hip hop most of it is singing of dirty stuff that no Christians should be talking about but some of the instrumentals are very catchy so maybe we could take a beat off one of the song and make up a new Jesus song
willpike7 3 years ago
If Jesus felt like something drastic needed to be done about it, then he would come and take care of it himself. So as of right now, rater we like it or not, we are stuck with hiphop.
mcc2822 3 years ago
Personally, I like hiphop. Jesus may like hiphop, and he may not. But not all hip hop is bad. Like Toby Mac and Grits have a song, Ooh Aah. And it's hip hop/rap and it's not bad at all. I think Jesus respects that. I don't think he looks down upon the people who sing hiphop or rap music, even though most of those songs are rather vulgar, but I doubt he appreciates the messages they are sending out.
mcc2822 3 years ago
Part two- Maybe it does for others. But I think that if the world can't tell you are listening to christian music, or music that is praising/ worshiping/ honoring to God then that's just as bad as being a closet christian.
petitepirate21 3 years ago
Part one- I was raised on hymns in the church. Nowadays I rarely hear a hymn in church. Now I mostly hear praise songs. I like some of them, but most of the time the name of Jesus or God is never mentioned. I don't like worship songs that could be taken as secular. That also goes with music that you can't understand the words clearly. Hip hop/rap/metal ect are like that to me. It's not pleasing to my ear and does not make me want to worship God.
petitepirate21 3 years ago
I don't think Jesus likes hip hop, but I listen to hip hop and I am Christian. I listen to music because I like the beats. I sing along with the song because it is catchy, not because I like the lyrics. I dislike the lyrics, but I know them and they don't affect me. I even listen to rock, tencho, etc., basically any song with a nice beat.
deadlois69 3 years ago
then if they get into that so could christian hip hop or rock or w/e then it will be very easy for a christian to still listen to the normal hip hop or rock music.. because they sound similar so they won't worry to much about whats going on the radio..but when you listen to the lyrics, its taken about fornications and adultery lol so music is a very powerful weapon cause it gets your in different moods. but you have to be able to worship God in truth and know whats he wants and not what you want
dkingjimmy 3 years ago
jesus isnt your buddy you keep in your pocket hes your savior not some friend that wants to listen to 50 cent talk about being up in the club. music is a form of self expression and just because you like a song and it isnt christian dosnt mean its bad or wrong your listening this this persons story or point of veiw. most people like music becasue they can relate to it. do you think jesus can realte to being up in the club looking for a hoe? same thing goes for any other type of music

well I think that.. hip hop beats or style of music shouldn't be mixed with Holy music of gods because you listen to what the hip music mostly have in there music and its 98% sinful.. and even if you put similar beats or same style of rapping but rapping about jesus, is just a weak way of representing jesus, its saying we need this music that sounds very close to gangsta hip hop rapping about sexual nature to bring the young ones in.

I feel as long as the lyrical content glorifys God I dont feel the beat structure much matters!

Personaly I love to glorify Christ in song and praise.
Ps.108:1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul.

hi how are you. christian music doesn't promote sin. as long if it glorifies god it is fine.

Honestly who care what kind of music it is...you narrow-minded people. As long as it sends the right message. All music is an aquired taste.
svaught32 4 years ago
My friend, I don't understand why you think we are narrow minded....my video said the very thing you did; the type of music matters not, but the words are important!
thepastormike 4 years ago
Who cares about the message?
It's all about finding music that you like to listen to. Who cares what it means? Did orchestral music have a meaning without lyrics?

check out my video response on "Does Jesus like Hip Hop - part 2".

Great Video pastor Mike!! personally I think if it Glorifies our Heavenly Father regardless of the style of music it is great!
Now everyone has their own tastes of music but as for what God wants or wants to listen to i think He is open minded.
Remember David had a harp and their are other instruments used in the Bible so I think its definely open ended in a sense.
God Bless

I definitely think Jesus would be interested in hip hop. Jesus didn't hang around the kinds of people that many would think that he would. And it seems to me, he is more interested in the lost, leaving his flock to pursue that one lost sheep... what better way then through secular music etc.?
JeanGray17 4 years ago 2
Hmm, but Jesus didn't use secular means. We're talking about hip hop music, not hip hop secular message. Country, alternative, metal and other genres have Christian and secular sides. I think what was meant is using Christian hop hop to reach the lost who dig secular hip hop. I don't see how Jesus could use secular hip hop to save anyone, 'cept to let someone in that lifestyle reach rock bottom before He scoops them up.

I think by "secular music" JeanGray meant styles of music that are popular in the secular realm.
thepastormike 4 years ago
Every person must discern for themselves what kinds of secular music are acceptable for them. For example. I love the band The Fray, they're music doesn't have Christian lyrics but the band members are all Christians. I also won't listen to music that has evil messages such as Eminem or most of the hip hop music of today. I like alot of older music too and it doesn't have Christian lyrics but it does not cause me to stumble listening to a good Billy Holiday song lol!!!! :)

Music gets into your head and many times we will sing a song over and over again that we hear. Better to be singing about Christ's love than anthing else.
TransformedbyTruth 4 years ago
There is nothing wrong with Christian music. Music gets in your head and you may end up singing a song you heard in the morning all day long, better it be a long about Christ's love for us than a song about shooting someone and having sex with a bunch of people. Every person must discern for themselves what they think is acceptable as far as secular music.
TransformedbyTruth 4 years ago
There is no such thing as Christian Music only Christian lyrics. I think Jesus likes when people are giving praise to his name whether it be through drums, piano, or beats. I don't think it matters because its not the sound of the music that makes it Christian it's the lyrics that are attached to it.

TransformedbyTruth, I have to totally agree.

music can be extremely dangerous, Daniel 3 teaches us that Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, used music to lull people into worshiping his image.
would Messiah like hip-hop?
all music comes with a culture (dress, speech, attitude etc) so maybe the question should be would Messiah like the hip-hop culture?

Part 1
1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.
TheEdge012 4 years ago
Part 2
3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
TheEdge012 4 years ago
I personally turned off my radio two months ago and do not listen to anything. Not that I hate music of all types but because I have made my morning and evening commute a prayer & medidation time. When I listen to music, I tend to judge each song on its own merits.
TheEdge012 4 years ago
I think that any music that glorifies God is great - regardless of the style - but likewise - any music that does not glorify God is worthless. It doesn't matter if it's country, metal, hip-hop; if it isn't glorifying God it isn't worth our time...

I enjoy quite a bit of secular music
pastorsw1 4 years ago
pastorsw1 - I didn't say it wasn't enjoyable - all things are permissible - but not everything is beneficial - Im not saying you're wrong to listen to secular music - and I admit I can be extreme - its just how I view it. GBU & HJD! :)

Nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree. Be blessed.
pastorsw1 4 years ago
Not all secular music is wrong, but one needs to sort through it with the mind of Christ. It's not about beat, but lyrics. The sound/beat of the music can in no way classify it as godly or ungodly. It's ALL about the lyrics. The same is so for Christian music. I like quite a few groups that carry a Christian label, but their lyrics don't really sway me to Christ. I say that we need to feel the beat and realize that it is just a beat. Lyrics determine whether or not it is good, bad, or God music.
