  • they said the lead singer was actually hard of hearing one ear and the higher singer would lead in for him so he could feel the tempo and tone

  • Marvin Junior have the most powerful voice I've ever heard you have to see them in person to appreciate his voice, He can knock down wall with his voice

  • Fabulous quintet here who remained intact and performing for more than 40 years! The raw emotion conveyed by lead vocalist Johnny Funches was enhanced by the unique falsetto of Johnny Carter who, incidentally, was an original Flamingo before joining The Dells in '60!

  • i used to date marvin's daughter, and it was such a treat when i would go to their house and see all the gold records on the wall, and get to talk to him. Harvey Illinois own!

  • One of the best ever!!!

  • AMAZING Real Music what the hell happened to Black R&B Soul music??? Greedy labels decided to kill black music because it was having a positive affect on black people and exposed Black americans to the world as sophisticated intelligent gifted people. Then they decided after killing true black music to begin to promote Hiphop as a stereotype when they gained control of it , promoting negative images of blacks via gangsta rap and influencing blacks to conduct themselves like violent savages

  • @InfinityNebula what a crock of crap!

  • did one of them die

  • Listen to the instruments, beautiful.

  • Thanks for this beautiful, quality posting that showcases great memories of the Dells. True talent period.

  • Better than great......oh what a night.....

  • we may not like it but time moves forward.

  • it just doesn't get any better than this.

  • OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!

  • I am so smitten!!! I love this song!!!

  • To rectify what i said in my previous post, I'm not saying that there aren't any young, talented, mature n experienced artists that are holding real music down, because there are quite a few...im just simply stating an obvious personal observatorial fact/ opinion!!! No Offense meant towards anyone!!

  • What I have truly noticed about most of these EXCELLENT female and male vocal groups of that time is their ages n maturity These artists are way past childish non sense. They're mature and sing about they're actual experiences in real relationships and they put them in words and the words came to life in their songs and in the way they sung them. I believe one of the reasons y our music is so corrupt is due to the age of these artists 16,17,18, 21. Yes Adolescent artists are killing the music!!

  • I must agree with other s, one of the greatest groups and songs every recorded. Being a child of the 60's this brings back family, singing on the street corners and harmonizing to all the great songs. This song will live on forever. The way the group performs from a total stance of togetherness and excellence brings tears to my eyes

  • If this isn't one of the absolutely greatest live you tube postings, tell me what is. And will the one "dislike" disappear, please.

  • This is real Doo Wap......they are singing their hearts out!

  • omg loving it thanks for posting

  • Like!?! Dont they have a LOVE button to click. Classic stuff from a golden age in TV.

  • Pure joy!!!

  • THESE GUYS WERE THE IDOL FOR THE TEMPTATIONS IN THE BEGINNING

  • Loving this song

  • One person didn't have a good night...

  • Awesome !!! Video/Song !!! Thanks for putting it up.. Great songs never die !!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!

  • This is so great to see. The Mighty, Mighty Dells are pure class and they fit each other like a glove. Saw them three times from 1987 onward and I was always amazed at the power of their Soul. Great find ~ I hope they did at least another tune... Thanks!

  • A collector's item. There're so few live recordings of genius like theirs

  • Great clip. I love the Dells, and they are one of the best groups, along with a slew of other black groups. IMHO, they leave the Beatles in the dust. Yes, the Beatles had some very good songs, but the Dells, Impressions, Imperials, etc. had SOUL, and they knew how to make this kid's soul feel good.

  • The Dells and a 1952 Ford !!!

  • Yes indeed!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this clip.they talk about that so call singing they have on American Idol, there will never be singer like the dells ,and so many other in that time frame. iam so proud of the singer and groups in the 70s.80s ,so glad iam from that era.we are so talent and do not know how to use it when it come to music.thank again, love it.

  • By 1967, The Dells began charting a string of R&B & Pop Billboard hits, including 3 number one R&B hits: “Oh What A Night,” certified as a million seller in 1956 & 1969; “Stay in My Corner,”my philly label was Sound Gems.i wish i had the Dells on my label..ff

  • I knew Johnny Carter , he was a great man , funny , giving & loved the tales of life on the road , he down played his celebrity ,he was just a man doing his job , you will be missed . R.I.P JOHNNY

  • As I watch the Dells kill it, I'm thinking, "Damn, Mainstream America, this performance is payback for all those years you ignored our great records".

Marvin & Johnny absolutely kill it.

  • Never knew they were on The Hollywood Palace. I saw them years ago and Chuck Barksdale said "Pay attention tonight. Because when we are gone you'll never see our likes again" And he was absolutely right. Incredible.

  • Wow

  • There is a difference, in being famous and being "Great". Marvin, Mickey, Chuck, Verne, and the late tenor Johnny Carter, they are truly one of the "Greatest vocal group ever live. Thank you, Dells.

  • @kitty9720 They are simply the greatest R&B/Doo Woop/Soul male singing group of all-time!!!! Listen to how Marvin and Johnny sound so perfect together!!! Man!!! The Dells!!!

  • Thank you, really beautiful

  • It doesn't get any better than this! They could recreate that fabulous studio sound "live" -- no phony bells, whistles and electronic sound machines for them. Present day 'so-called entertainers' should take note! Long live the MIGHTY MIGHTY DELLS!

  • There will never be another group, like the "DELLS" not in this life time. Thank you, DELLS

  • So great to finally see some classic <!!(((live)))!!> tuneage by the Mighty, Mighty Dells. At full strength, they were their on their own cloud. Got to see them a few times in the late '80's and they were quite for real. Thanks again to you!
