I have examined the movie closely and here is my theory.The first filming was done based on a different script and premise. When the production went under.

They had to ad the Galactica scenes and change the plot around to hold it all together. I dont believe that the entire movie originally took place on the Southern Sun. I think that the scenes in the warehouse take place in a futuristic city or devastated world.
