Dark, and manages to capture the elements of Nordic culture.
Good movie! And it's totally cool how they're having on all those mainstream kids seeing the posters, watching the trailer and awaiting some viking idiocy like Pathfinder :D
Mads is Norse in this film, at the beginning he is a slave, as he takes a bath he founds an arrow tip. He slaughters he captives and is accompanied by a boy. He and the boy meet Crusaders who are on the way to Jerusalem.
At the end of the movie remember the Indians?? They didn't reach Jerusalem, they ended up in North America. Slaughtered by Indians, but they thought they were in hell.

@Arcturistheballer The film is a solid, well-made and impressive trip that reaches back to our more primitive emotions, focusing a lot more on atmosphere and experience than plot and characters. The film is beautiful. The lanscape shots cut with the contrasting red dream scenes kept me on my feet the whole way through, I felt like I was one of the crusaders with One- Eye. The soundtrack was fucking amazing, subtle, so natural to the mood of the film you would hardly notice it.

I actually enjoyed this movie quiet a bit. It's just not as Die Hard or Terminator. But the neverending silence is just... inspiring. There are some slow parts in it. But when you're finished watching, you will think about it. Atleast, I did.

It is not realistic by any stretch of the word (I know it is not supposed to be). It gives you no background info about ANYTHING. "were going on the crusades" that's it. This movie is nothingness the only substance you can precieve is self manifested. Supporters just say "oh its a masterpeice" "its not mainstream bullshit".... its a piece of shit movie

@Arcturistheballer The film is a solid, well-made and impressive trip that reaches back to our more primitive emotions, focusing a lot more on atmosphere and experience than plot and characters. The film is beautiful. The lanscape shots cut with the contrasting red dream scenes kept me on my feet the whole way through, I felt like I was one of the crusaders with One- Eye. The soundtrack was fucking amazing, subtle, so natural to the mood of the film you would hardly notice it.

I wanted to know where the fuck he came from and who he was. So mysterious. He also seem good natured while being a ruthless killer. The film for me is about survival and discovery ( self and physical )

I actually enjoyed this movie quiet a bit. It's just not as Die Hard or Terminator. But the neverending silence is just... inspiring. There are some slow parts in it. But when you're finished watching, you will think about it. Atleast, I did.

I did not take my sources from wikipedia but from 2 french historians named Joel supéry and Régis Boyer, and them could be called experts regarding this topic. The official viking era started in the year 792, when norwegians vikings attacked Lindisfarne.
All scandinavia were Vikings.
The Danish vikings invaded and ruled most of England for almost two centuries. Norwegian Vikings settled down in Iceland, Scotland ( Dublin ), Normandy, Farao Island. The Swedish were running around in the Baltic countries. The Danish were warriors, The Norwegians were thief and adventures sailors who traveled to Vinland, North America and so on. The Swedish were just gay.

You need to educate yourself about the viking age regarding the Swedes. We practically formed the Russian state. The Rus from Roslagen is what gave the name to Russia. Check out Kenneth Harl's lecture series called "Vikings" from the Teaching Company. I would also point out that out of 30 runestones that mentions raids in England 26 are in the core areas of what was then Sweden (+1 in Skåne which belonged to Denmark then).

The vikings would eventually (due to being magnificent seamen and navigators) settle in Iceland, from their home in Norway, and from there Greenland. From there they established the short lived colony of Vinland somewhere in Nova Scotia/ New England.

For a long time, historians assumed that when vikings were disappearing from the annals of the countries they raided, it meant that they had just taken back their ships and sailed back into the mists of north sea. But they are more and more aware that when they stopped raiding, it meant that they had settled and mingled into the population, bringing their language into it.
