"Remembering" is not just only fantastic stuff for me...Avishai's concert was unforgetable...and i have his autograph...remembering...After a t F T t i R Life. :)))

Because jazz derives its chordal vocabulary from European musical structure. Debussy is actually more "modern" than most jazz in terms of harmonic sophistication. And our pop music in America is the worst in terms of harmonic boredom. Don't try to make sense from music, ask simply "what is the aesthetic value?". It has nothing whatsoever to do with genre, which is a means of not experiencing music intimately, but keeping an intellectual distance through definition.
I'll be sure to do that if I should ever need to unlock the mystery of a music about as deep as a police chase soundtrack. Complexity doesn't necessarily equal intensity, as we painfully learn from the king of boredom, Wynton Boralis, as well as his piano adversary Keith Borrat.
You need to separate the ha's in order to evade your own accusation. Otherwise, it looks like you're saying
"aha" repeatedly, which reads as a self inflicted irony. Ha ha. You see how it should be? You'll learn in time, my benighted child. Be careful as you writhe in your computer chair not to impale yourself on your diaper pins.
I'm sure we both agree that Avishai is a great player, but really, this song is nothing special, the same descending pattern repeated over and over again and to be honest, it's not that interesting. To try to claim this as the epitomy of expression which is above all jazz ensembles is utterly ridiculous.
Well, that's true. I didn't mean it towers over everything else and it is repetitious. It's not that satisfying compositionally I admit. I wrote my comment about 8 bars in and then it just droned on and on. But, it does have a powerful mood, at least at first. Most jazz is pretty tepid in terms of mood. I would say that only a few musicians( Duke Ellington and Miles Davis i.e.) really brought a mystical depth to jazz... When I hear most jazz, I hear a mundane chordal vocabulary unlike Debussy.
You must be listening to all the wrong jazz then my friend, I assure you there is a plethora of extremely high quality jazz out there, both older and modern that would absolutely blow you away if you dig this.
Avishai Cohen just cancelled a recent tour due to 'health reasons'. I was really looking forward to seeing him in Winnipeg. Anybody know whats going on?
I really love this kind of jazz. Not so many notes, the right ones, a lot of space, a very nice balance between piano, drums and bass, a fantastic melody... I am so jealous!
These guys played at the amphitheater in Malmö, Pildammsparken today. I went to check it out. Truly an amazing show, these guys will go far, no doubt.

But why comparing a modern jazz musician to Debussy? That really makes no sense at all.

sounds rather predictable to me...where is the musical depth and profundity you speak of?...pales in comparison to Scriabin or Debussy.
