Amos and Andy had a black supporting cast, black guest stars, and black fans during the time.
But Andy and Amos was still as racist as hell. None of these facts changes that. It thrived in a society where this was viewed as OK. But, of course, this was a society that also viewed Jim Crow laws as OK as well.
"Check and Doubler Check" was the only film to star the two original creators, writers and voices of the incredibly popular Amos 'n' Andy radio show. The later TV series, of course, is one of the funniest television programs of all time -- and not the least bit racist. Was the feature film racist? I don't know. You'll have to ask one of it's co-stars: Duke Ellington.
I wouldn't say that its ruining our country, but it probably makes people act more fake than they would otherwise. Personally I'd like to leave race out for the most part. Its just sorta uncomfortable.

Racism is synonymous with Bigotry and a Bigot is someone who clings to old ideas despite "new evidence." Assuming, the new evidence is correct, then the label is correct. However, the idea that Blacks and Whites are the same (that is what equal means) or that their differences are just skin deep is erroneous. So, it would appear that you are the bigot ;-)

Watching Amos n Andy, one thing is clear: it was funny. And of course, they weren't out to fool people into thinking that Blacks and Whites are the same, like our media does today.

Great show and just about the least racist thing I've ever seen. These men were just tryin' to get by in the world. But how did they do it? Livin' off welfare, having children out of wedlock to get govt. money, lawsuits, disabilities claims. No they worked and worked and worked some more. They had so much diginty and self respect that they would never take something for nothing. THe world is much worse off today then back then.

That's because YOU do not know the history of whites in blackface. It was ORIGINALLY done to demonize and mock Blacks while they suffered in slavery and Jim Crow. There is a BIG difference between this and whiteface.

Let me clarify.
Amos and Andy was funny.
Amos and Andy had a black supporting cast, black guest stars, and black fans during the time.
But Andy and Amos was still as racist as hell. None of these facts changes that. It thrived in a society where this was viewed as OK. But, of course, this was a society that also viewed Jim Crow laws as OK as well.

"Check and Doubler Check" was the only film to star the two original creators, writers and voices of the incredibly popular Amos 'n' Andy radio show. The later TV series, of course, is one of the funniest television programs of all time -- and not the least bit racist. Was the feature film racist? I don't know. You'll have to ask one of it's co-stars: Duke Ellington.

Correll and Gosden later disowned this picture. I haven't watched it, but it's not very popular among Amos 'n' Andy fans.
In spite of this movie, the radio show and the later TV show was pure comedic genius.

We somehow decided that, for no known good reason, making pop-culture jokes, invite celebrities to be guest stars, and put in lots and lots of innuendo was WAY more funnier than actually thinking of jokes.
