  • what a shame the video was posted with such low volume.

  • Being from FL I grew up listening to Gary Stewart. Now that I'm older and away from home it takes me back to my younger days hanging in Okeechobee. Bonus just found "Essential Gary Stewart" on CD for my Jeep.

  • Gary is a natural talent. It's obvious that his songs come from his heart. Many of his later video's show his true vices, sadly enough.

  • This is real country music. I can't tell you how much I loath today's "country" music! Why even call it country, why not call it light rock? Either way won't this crap sell? I was flipping throught the channels recently and stopped on CMT, where there was some show that had "artists" on stage singing Edgar Winter Group's "Free Ride" and totally rockin' out. I say country music died in '81 with the advent of Alabama. Anyone else have a different year?

  • I will always love Gary Stewart's music, and still want to go bar-hopping and drinking when I hear his songs - - he was the King of Honky Tonk

  • Ladies and gentlemen this IS country music. Gary was by far the best at making you cry and his music was from the heart. Gone but definitely not forgotten.

  • I sure do miss Gary, This song is so true, this is to @REsensee

  • I was his biggest fan. Played his music all the time. Sure miss him.

  • I just discovered this guy today, listening to a classic country radio station and I already love this guy and now want to hear as much of him as I can. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Ohhh he`s not only a good musician but watching him live; i can see he`s so charismatic <3

  • He was so happy singing this; a good one to leave us with.

  • Long after Garth Brooks has left everyone's memory (which will come sooner than later), people will talk about this musical genius. He didn't swing on a rope, he just did a ton of dope. That's how you make music that survives the ages.

  • i remenber my dad play"n this when i was a small child.its still great

  • this is the Gary that we all wish was still here, smiling, and lov'in what he's doing....love,love Gary Stewart 's music.

  • Wow i cant believe some of these negative comments. Lets see some of you dipshits get up there and sing it better.

  • agreed. I miss this music!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting!! I love this crazy voice. LOL Too bad he went so early...phyllis..

  • Why Gary, why, did you have to leave us on MY birthday? Loved your music, and songs, but feel worse now! :(

  • I have to come back here to this vid~~~

    thanks for sharing

  • I soo love this song and GAry Stewart~~~

  • One neat song,,who cares if you are lving life the way you want to and happy about it~

  • great singer near my home in kentucky, this is the kind of music we play at the saw mill bars, classics

  • love, love love GAry and his music

  • One of my all time favorite albums "Out Of Hand". Man, Gary has hair more epic than Conway! RIP Gary, you gave me much musical pleasure.

  • Gary Stewart was/is the greatest honky-tonk singer of all time, possessed immense talent for writing and singing, and who knew well the tortured soul of the music he wrote and sang. Many a night I spent listening to his music non-stop as I tore through a bottle of Jameson Irish, or Jack Daniels Black. He left us way to soon--Rest in Peace Gary Stewart; you are missed by many.

  • right on, Iforbus. the mold was broken.

  • To my ears, there's a very striking similarity between the singing voice of Gary Stewart and that of Jerry Lee Lewis(in Jerry's earlier career)-only Jerry Lee didn't use that much vibrato. I think one would really hear the similarity if Gary would've recorded something like "What's Made Milwaukee Famous" or "Once More With Feeling", or if The Killer would have recorded "Out Of Hand" or "She's Acting Single(I'm Drinking Double) Anyway, It's a shame Gary isn't around anymore-he was great!

  • Alot of country greats are copied by other artists. This dude cannot be copied; he's one of a kind. Enjoy, because you will never ever see anyone do this again.

  • I saw him many time at Cowboys Dallas. Thank you Gary for the memories... GOD SPEED

  • Gary's not in the Hall Of Fame ? Put him in now !!!!

  • I think that a large portion of the best true honky-tonkers have no chance getting into the hall of fame. It is really sad but the people deciding on the country music hall of fame are radio people and honky-tonk music does not play on the radio. Very sad I think we should start the Honky-Tonk Music Hall of Fame (HTMHF). I nominate Gary Stewart can I get a second?

  • just love it man.

  • I have always loved his music.

  • Gary was a great songwriter and an excellent singer of other's songs as well. This Tom Jans song never sounded better to me except when Tom sang it himself. He was real Country when mainstream Country wasn't.

  • If I spend every Saturday night ( that the kids don't have a need for me ) for the rest of my life sipping bourbon and indulging in Gary Stewart youtube videos, I will die a happy man

  • Me too!

  • @aeroshine I love all of Gary Stewart's songs, & could not understand why he wasn't as big as Billy Joe Royal or bigger!! Direct TV changed their stations. I always stayed up for hours recording them on the DVR. Now the new ones will not let you record anything on any of the music channels. I still have a few on a DVD somewhere that I pop in & listen to.

  • @aeroshine

I'm having precisely that kind of evening right now. Hangin' out with Evan Williams and Gary Stewart

Man, ain't You Tube great? I've been tracking this phenomenon for a couple of years now, Gary's music is experiencing a definite revival, people are sick of the fluffy, sugar sweet stuff out there now, and they are getting off on the raw, whiskey soaked emotion that defines Gary's music.

  • @jamcrane3 as a drunk person on youtube right now i can totally appreciate your comments

  • He belongs in the country music hall of fame . The true king of honky tonks . Country music has gone pop . filling statiums is not the country root artist . Its in the honky tonk . Garys steel player plays for me now . And yea we play honky tonks . And end our show with empty glass. RIP Gary

  • He belongs in the rock and roll hall of fame too, he belongs in any music hall of fame...

  • he neeeds to be in the hof! its crazy that he is not part of that, there loss

  • @001tucker Your so right about Gary I saw him many moons ago in San Jose and he played with his leg in a cast and he rock the place out I wish he was still with us.

  • what talent this guy is what country is all about thanks Gary

  • Gary Stewart's wife did not leave him. She died of pneumonia in November 2003--They had been married over 40 years. In Dec 2003 he committed suicide--lived a troubled life and never had the opportunity for growth and being sober.

  • His wife left him, his son commited suiside, he continued performing for awhile, as he grew older he couldn't take it anymore. not sure if he just couldn't take growing old and everything that had happened. He committed suiside around 2000-2003 maybe.

  • Seeing the real deal sure pulls the covers on most of the "new country" (models in cowboy hats) acts

  • The guy was magic on two legs.

  • is he singing about his hairstyle?

  • O' my that was funny! loved hin tho...is he still around? David Ball reminds me of his music! ;)

  • glad you like that one, cher! ;)

  • no he died december 2003

    RIP Gary Stewart<3

  • who couldnt love this song

  • Ive been playing his stuff in one band or another since HE started! Love that Gary Stewart stuff!

  • He liked those songs about adultery, didn't he?

  • I was lucky enough to see him 10 or 12 times , mostly a the Yellow Rosein Lindale , Texas and Lees' SilverFox in Terrell. Always great , even signed my new silverbelly one night

  • lucky you

  • saw him in a small honky tonk bar in bakersfield in the early 80's with about 20 or 30 other people in the bar. good to hear that warbling voice again.

  • lucky b2stard

  • I had the same experience at the

Cheers and Beers in Lakeport, Florida in 1982.

That's one of those kind of memories that lasts a lifetime.

Long live the memory and the music of the

    King of HonkyTonk.

  • That's cool. My step dad used to talk about seeing a very drunk but talented Hank Williams at the Blackboarad in Bakersfield in the early 50's. Comparable experiences, although his is a somewhat more legendary I suppose.

  • Jenkins, Kentucky

  • I just purchased satellite radio and heard out of hand . It fit my situation perfectly. I heard his other great tunes and fell in love with his music. What a tragic loss.

  • badass

  • Love this man! Saw him many times in concert!!

  • Brilliant,Thanks for posting, now being a brit, aka (oliver twist)where is sweet country red and honky tonkin',every album made you always want more, regards the shake I always found it attracting, like a buddy holly hiccup,we eh he hel the little things you hoo say and do,etc.

  • what would he know bout contry in the first place but oh well sh*t happens i guess

  • hey highnrisin, youre a fool! that was his style!! but then again, what would you know about that!!!!!!!!!!

  • bigruss thanks for posting; gary stewart was huge in the seventies! his music was so different & unique, sure do miss him.....

  • he was awesome. I am just know discovering him. wish he would have been a bigger success, he deserved it. voice as smooth as TN whiskey

  • Go buy his greatest hits. That will get you up to speed.

  • He was one of the original"outlaws" I believe.

I loved his style and still do.

Why do people come on here to make nasty comments. If you don't like it, just go away and keep your comments to yourself. It is so immature of people to do that. I guess they don't have a life and they are miserble with theirself. I once had a husband like that, notice I said once. Sent him on down the road, ley all the other miserables out there follow him. PLEASE!!!

  • Man,this guy can sing big time....a unique voice and a style all his own.He definitely deserves more recognition and better respect. Don't you agree?

  • his wife had just passed away after a long illnes could have been one of the causes of his early demise.

  • his voice was not shaking, that was his voice. he alway sung like that you must not have ever heard of him until now.

  • i don't know why you would say something like that. a great artist was lost once again with gary. too sad all the time

  • no doubt, look at that sweet-ass hairdo! The man was never comfortable in his own skin, but with about a gallon of liquor in him, his voice calmed down, and he could actually lay down some good honky tonk music. Unfortunatley, I don't think he had enough to drink in this video.

  • u just dont know good country music when u here it if thats all u have 2 comment on go listen 2 some hard rock or some rap

  • I know you're not commenting to me! I said it's too bad he blew his brains out. The man was one of the last true honky tonk heros

  • I thought he was great, too. After he killed himself, the paper said he shot himself in the throat. The throat! What does that say when such a great singer kills himself that way? Man, that's more than just despair. Go figure ....

  • Maybe it's a lack of liquor. That's as good a guess as any for this sad-ass performance. His voice is shaking and quavering and shaking.

  • One of the finest country parodists of all-time. Cledus Judd, eat your heart out!

  • I simply love this man's music

  • Can someone please post In some room above the street. That is my favorite Gary Srewart song.

  • C'mon Russ, Give us "She's Actin' Single". Quit the torture brother!

  • what happend to this video?

  • bigruss, have you got 'She's acting single, I'm drinking doubles' anywhere? EVERYONE wants that one.

  • COULD YOU POST sHE'S ACTING SINGLE,i'M DRINKING DOU BLE,PLEASE?????

  • i really love this video. i watch it several times a day, he was one of the best singers

  • God bless him and Lou*********the KING OF HONKEYTONK COUNTRY MUSIC

  • he was my favorite singer,, and still is. god bless him

  • THis ladies and genlemen is what true counry music is supposed to be! He was and will always be a legend to me.

    RIP Gary...you are surely missed!

  • @REsensee Gary will always be a legend to me also.RIP Gary we miss you.

  • Who ever suppressed Gary's music should be hung up. He had talent beyond his time. The people on music roe never know true talent when it comes around.

  • Just amazing guy - love ALL his Honky Tonk music.

Thanks for posting this clip of Gary playing the piano on this one.

  • Thanks for posting. GS was a true original.

  • love it! thanks for posting!

  • she acting single is one of my favorite songs. could someone please please post it

  • What a fine talent!!! It's a dirty rotten shame that the Nashville powers that be were, and in many cases still are clueless. Had the establishment actually been controlled by individuals who could recognize talent, just maybe Gary would still be with us today.

  • This 47 yr old Ft.Worth, Tx. boy, THANKS YOU!!! Growing up, I heard this before "She's Actin' Single". (It was posted, but disapeared.) sniff.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you--I don't understand why these vids keep disappearing. do you have more?
