  • To me Journey is not Journey without Steve Perry's vocals. I'm not taking anything away from their new lead singer, he's good, but there's just something about hearing Steve Perry belting out Journey tunes!

  • congradulations your 13 u know ur age. who cares how old u are. just listen to the music that is actually CALLED MUSIC. :D

  • i dont give a damn, and your telling ME to listen to the music? WOw

  • I LOVE JOURNEY!!!!! and im only 13! :) but thats because my mom used to listen to the oldies and actually i miss the oldies, my friends only talk about the new music when really the new music SUCKS... well it OK but the oldies were better WAY better. :)

  • @imCUTEnWEbothKNOWit Nobody cares if your 13 years old. and your not special for listening to old music.

  • @johnykonta57 @secretpeeps OK I dont give a damn if nobody cares, and i realize im not special, but i AM more special than you are, just because i actually have a positive attitude towards people! :) and well thanks :P

  • @imCUTEnWEbothKNOWit Just a heads up before you post other age related comments on "old" music.

  • @imCUTEnWEbothKNOWit Good keep listening to the good stuff..Glad you can tell the difference..Don't listen to some ignorants .You are special because you have an ear to hear and know the difference..

  • @df041278 Thank you :)

  • I miss these days. Waiting for new Journey to come out and you just knew it would kick ass.

  • i´m from Spain and I think the journey are the best singers rock the all continents

  • @jennylovevictor YOUR RIGHT THEY ARE

  • a great band until Perry fired Steve Smith and Ross Vallory and replaced them with studio nerds that didn't fit in with the band. Who fires a drummer like Steve Smith?????

  • Exactly. He said it was made during the Raised on Radio tour, which it was not. Soooo he is wrong.

  • "Hang on, were gonna go now!"

  • @Rumer1051

It's 'hang on, don't let go now'.

  • Wrong answer, fanboy...

  • @Sighlense

    @TheRailFanBoy780

Nope fanboy is right. That was the tour that Perry had the moustache. At 1:55 they show the screen that had the Frontiers album cover on it. This song was pulled from the album along with Only The Young at the last minute. Mistake. FYI filmed by NFL Films.

  • this wasnt made during the Frontiers tour it was made on the Raised On Radio Tour -_-

  • @TheRailFanBoy780 Actually it was neither. It was made in 1985, IN BETWEEN those tours.

  • I Love Journey! AWesome! Steve Perry Fantastic! My Favorite Singer! THE BEST!!!!! Neil Excellent Guitarist! Ross Great! Steve Amazing! Jonathan The Best Songwriter! And Greg Big Voice! I Adore Them!!!

  • Steve Perry!!!!! Lou Gramm was great, Brad Delp unique, but PERRY is the man.

  • SOOO good....fuck

  • "when you're feeling love's unfair you just ask the lonely!!!" this is just a classic journey song, simply great! =)

  • nice cool i love it

  • This is when concerts were concerts. No bs. No dancing girls. No nonsense. No voice overs. Just the music....

  • @Greenvegan828 "no bar, no pinball machines, no bowling alleys, just pool, nothing else, this is Ames mister"

  • NICE...NICE...VERY NICE!

  • Still love it !!

  • It goes Elvis, Paul Mc, John Lennon, Steve Perry as Greatest male Vocalist's EVER! <3 H-Bomb, CA

  • @JuggiGenius Sorry, Paul Mc & Lennon CANNOT sing better than Steve Perry!!!

  • @wp1953 Paul McCartney and John Lennon's singing voice suck compared to Steve Perry's amazing, emotive singing voice. Steve is meant to be releasing a Beatles song soon. I can't wait!!!

  • Steve Perry your voice is so hot!!! Journey didn't half write some fab music!!!!

  • Loved this!

  • In response to jkbri, this filipino is the closest we will get to the original Steve Perry. I miss him too but he does a damn good job. I think maybe your a little prejudice.. if you werent you would have called him by his name instead of " that filipino". I am proud of him. Had some big shoes to fill and doin' just fine!

  • Saw them on Graspop Belgium last month, shame they played a lot of their new album, i don't know those songs... but they really started to make a party up there, together with Foreigner, The Scorpions, Volbeat, Korn, and many many more that Friday

  • Going to see these guys, minus Steve Perry and Steve Smith on September 17, 2011 in Tampa, Florida.

  • Journey filled stadiums. You don't see that sh*t anymore, do you Neil? Tee hee...

  • @Sighlense How could you? I have to ask what is the next iconic band on the horizon? Is there one playing right now? I will say one thing, there has been a shift away from RAP, aka shit, but will the youth of today bring it back?

  • @mrspacemanlee - the daytime footage is from the Frontiers tour at RFK stadium on June 4, 1983.

  • I hate that Filipino replacement so much. He just doesn't understand music..

  • @jkbri How do you figure?

  • Anyone know where that day-time footage is from? So awesome!

  • Absolute magnum opus, guys! You're the men! ;-) Hey Steve! You're for real, man!

  • Absolute magnum opus, guys! You're the men! ;-)

  • YEAH, BABY! Journey ROCKS on this song!!!! If you don't move some part of your body during this tune, there is something wrong with you!

  • this song should have been one of there best. !

  • everyone who said randy jackson played for journey lied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @bigd199709 nobody lied dude......he played on the raised on radio tour

  • @bassmaster2711 he wasnt on the tour

  • @Firefighter72BG ....get your facts straight sir....the video doesnt lie....ru telling me thats not Randy Jackson on bass???????? I was at a show in Washington DC in either 86 or 87 and he was on bass for that show at the cap center......

  • @bassmaster2711 okay i looked further into it and yes randy replaced Ross Valory who was fired before the tour

  • @Firefighter72BG cool.....thanks sir

  • @bigd199709 check one of the live versions of raised on radio song and you will see him

  • @bigd199709 girl cant help it live

  • @bigd199709 he was a session musician for journey

  • @tjrtherocksponge "Troubled Child" is a pretty good song & one of the gems from the album. "Back Talk" is kind of corny. I think there were just 9 tracks on the entire original version of the album so both "Ask The Lonely" & "Only The Young" should've been on "Frontiers".

  • Is this the actual video or did you put this one together to make it look like it might've been played on MTV? If you did you did one fine job w/it.

  • I'm the chick in the red shirt @ 3:13. You know, the one the middle school kid is staring at like she's crazy............O.K. not really. But that IS what I'd be doing if I were at this concert!!!!

  • just saying the name Steve ).

  • MAN THEY ALWAYS PUT ON A GREAT SHOW ...EVERY MEMBER OF THE BAND WAS JUST STRONG...& ONE OF THE BEST CHORUS BANDS EVER TO STEP ONTO A STAGE!!..JOURNEY OWNED THE 80'S!!!

  • MAN THEY ALWAYS PUT ON A GREAT SHOW !!!

  • @mrendgame970 LOL!! Love your comments! There is no other singer that evokes such emotion from his fans! Had a bad day at work? Recession blues hitting you hard? Blast some Journey/Steve Perry!! ZAP!!! Transported back in time when music was REAL!! Music that made you feel ALIVE!! The 80's tight jeans look doesn't hurt either.......HA!

  • Comment removed

  • @uget1shot "Transported back in time when music was REAL!! Music that made you feel ALIVE!!"

    word...straight up'

  • @uget1shot so right my friend. I remember liking journey in the late 70's early 80's folks down on us and them.

Now they are consider classic. The music world would be better if bands like journey were making music like this today.

  • @uget1shot You're so right! The 1st thing i do when i get in my car after work is slap a Journey cd in...by the time i've got home i'm one cooled down chick!!! You're also right about the tight jeans too....i mean,Steve Perry in the "live in Houston 81" DVD....i'm not just looking at his face you know!

  • Steve is the Best! My wife is right he is oozing with sex appeal just like myself!! There is no imitations or replacements.Thak you steve for all the happiness youve given your fans all these years!!!!!

  • @mrendgame970 you are funny!!

  • YESSSSS!!!!!!!! Love this song!!! Sing JOURNEY!!!! Can't stop dancing around the house!! BEST GROUP, BEST MUSIC, BEST LEAD!!!! PERIOD!!!

  • I very much agree with all of you....this has ALWAYS been a ROCKIN' AWESOME song! :) And a really great job of putting all of this footage together for a what is a great video for it! I wish they had released a full length version of the Philadelphia concert from the Frontiers movie, like what they did with the Escape tour in Houston! I miss these guys all together like this....they are so fun here! :)

  • Another tune of the great Steve Perry! Yum

  • @tjrtherocksponge

Put Ask the Lonely and Only the Young on Frontiers and you get the best Journey album, EVER!

  • what's that chip on your shoulder?

  • ask me^^

  • @batatacollins i cant wait either :D

  • Thumbs up if Steve Perry will always be Journey to you! Not Arnel! WE LOVE YOU STEVE!!!!!!!

  • @CharmedGirl261 you are right; JOURNEY WAS STEVE!!! ANYONE ELSE THEY ARE NOT JOURNEY!!!

  • @jibsonable AGREED!!!! :D Thank you! I dont see how anyone could take Arnel over Steve!!!

  • @CharmedGirl261 before steve and after steve? NO one even knew of them...NOW they were made because of steve!!!) Happy Easter to all my perry buddies!

  • @jibsonable....Happy Easter to you, my friend! PERRY-ON!!!! :)) YESSSS!!!! He's da' man!

  • Steve Perry = Journey

  • amazing song

  • Can hardly wait for April 5 in sunny Venezuela baby !!!

  • i remember my 1980 days ron25

  • oy, I forgot to mention I found this when my dad was listening to it on the radio XD

  • my favorite part about this is the electric keyboard

  • Perry won't be replaced, but that doesn't mean that the band is over... not by a long shot. Journey has its success by the songwriting as well as by the singing lead. If you ask me the songwriters of Journey are the blood and soul of the band and they are alive and well. I think Steve Augeri and Arnel Pineda have lent their talents very well to a legendary band. Cheers to many more years of their music.

  • Journey was probably one of the five biggest bands of the 70's and 80's era. Steve Perry was the best vocalist they ever had period. Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain need to swallow their pride and invite Perry back. If they want to keep Arnel Pineda there would be nothing wrong with keeping two lead vocalists. Pineda could use some help in completing a full concert set. I bought the latest concert video which was filmed entirely in Manila, Philippines and Arnel took four breaks in between.

  • My favorite song. Everything they do is tinged with a soulful sadness. So interesting.

  • Great song!!!!!!!!! No bands can ever match these guys...none!!

  • Awesome song...from "Two of a Kind". Cool video, even though it's a chop job. They never had a video for this song.

  • Best Journey song, hnds down (just a opinion)! I'd put Steve Perry in the top 5 best pop/rock vocalists of the 80s.

  • @mariofan4523 So, explain to me WHY they are NOT in the Rock in Roll HOF? It makes NO sense. Just this past year, Neil Diamond was FINALLY put in the HOF. What kind of creeps are these people?

  • @Greenvegan828 I would hope to god if they ever do get put into the HOF they would do it with "Journey" Steve Perry, and not the Journey they have now!

  • @ChrisThePsycho I agree 100 percent. Of course, it is hard to remake magic. I do not know what the problem is with these fools in Cleveland. I think it is the toxic water off the Lake.

  • @ChrisThePsycho If its anything like that iTunes award they got recently for Don't Stop Believing downloads (with a pic of the current members of that band on it) I doubt Steve Perry and Steve Smith will even be invited to any HOF ceremony. I read Deen Castronovo the current drummer said recently in an interview that if they got inducted he wouldn't stand on the stage with the other band members because he doesn't think he deserves to be included. He really respects Steve Perry.

  • @eljay345 So, tell me why does the HOF ban JOURNEY? It took them decades to wake up and give Neil Diamond his due. There is hope. I just have to laugh that the CLASH, STRAY CATS, etc are in. What is wrong with CLEVELAND? Journey's music is more popular then ever. I see people put their differences aside and let them in. It is a shame the new music from the band has not had the same magic.

  • @Greenvegan828 I have no idea why they won't induct the ''true'' Journey. When I look at some of the inductees over the years I wonder why on earth they got inducted also.

New Journey as I call that band now doesn't have that same magic because Steve Perry and Steve Smith (the best lead singer and drummer for Journey) are no longer in the band and the song writing between Neal,Jonathan and Steve that created so many hit songs isn't there. They can't ever replace perfection!!!

  • @eljay345 Fans need to start a revolution to get them in as well as some other bands. You can listen to these songs years from now and it will have the same magic as when they were first written. Yes, I think someone is blowing someone to get in the HOF. Who got in this year?

  • @Greenvegan828 According to the HOF website...

    2012

    Bestie Boys,Donovan,Tom Dowd,Guns 'N' Roses,Glynn Johns,Freddie King,Don Kirshner,Cosimo Matassa,Laura Nyro,The Red Hot Chilli Peppers,The Small Faces/The Faces.

    2011

    Alice Cooper,Neil Diamond,Jac Holzman,Dr John,Darlene Love,Art Rupe,Leon Russell and Tom Waits.

I have no idea who twelve of those people are!!!

  • @eljay345 Beastie Boys? They sucked back in the day. HOF? Freddie King? Small Faces? JOKE...Happy New Year....

  • this song is so amazing.. the lirics are inspiring!!

  • Every time I heard that song....it brings me back to high school....

  • He never married, did he? Sure has a great voice, huh?

  • He never married, did he?

  • GRAN CANCIÓN. DEMASIADO BUENA

  • ...for christy and jackie

  • This is such a good song...shouldve been on the FRONTIERS Album.

  • @TheBrevo good thing it's on their Greatest Hits CD tho!

  • all they are is just a coverband now.journey 78-96

  • "Ask the lonely" is everything love is about. Thank you guys!!!!!!

  • This is simply another great Journey´s song.

  • They can try to replace Steve Perry, But they never will- Steve was Awesome, he was Journey!

  • The 80s gave birth to the greatest singers ever and I dare you to prove me wrong!!!!!

  • @strrbemmitt I'm sure there are great singers in EVERY generation. Plus, everyone has different criteria as to what a "great singer" is. (Some people think Frank Sinatra had a good voice, but I personally think he wasn't that great a singer.)

  • this is my favorite schon solo and my favorite journey song.. though im born in the 90's journey will always be my favorite band no matter what new may come!

  • journey = best band ever

    journey = best songs ever

    journey = perfection

steve perry = best singer ever

steve perry = best song riter ever

(sorry for the mistakes, i´m portuguese)

  • @Antonio99rodrigues I can agree on most points, but Journey's best songs were the collaboration of Cain, Schon, and Perry...While Perry is without argument a most unique and amazing voice, to give him all the credit for the magic of Journey is wrong. He was part of a band that had a special magic. Without Cain, Schon, or Perry, you'd have none of those songs. Disagree? Which Perry solo song is better than any Journey song? Don't get me wrong, Perry has a voice like no other---NONE!!!

  • @kathisele completely agree with you!

  • Hands down, my favorite Journey song.

  • @heartsthatbleed87 I was just going to post the same thing, yet a song that kinda got swept under the rug. A lot of people don't remember this great song, but I do!

  • i love this shit with an effing passion

  • I think it's not a matter of voice style or who is the man. it was just the time, the era. And this guys made it . There is no way to try to get back to an old Journey now. That was then, this is now, and even if SP were in the band now, surely Journey wouldn't be the same. Let's the songs do the time that were created for and let them to recall the times we lived through.

  • if steve's voice is irreplaceable so is neal's guitar playing..

  • Absolute killer tune.

  • i love neal's solo in here

  • Classic powerful Journey!

  • pickin up the pieces, some thing more to believe in. As you search the ember, think what you heard remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE JOURNEY! I LOVEEEE STEVE!! WE MISSING YOU!!

  • is that a philippine flag @ 3:19?

  • I sure miss those days. When I listen to music like this it takes me back to good times. And also it helps me to remember when I use to have parents. I miss all so much.

  • ur will never find a voice like steve perry again he is the best there is was and ever will be

  • I miss arena rock...

  • Damn, I wish you would come back Steve...We need you!

  • Still love this song.

  • I really can't understand why this particular song hasn't gone down as one of the best all-time songs ever? Seems to me like this a perfect song in every way!

  • @zonkedforlife2 I agree completely. This is one of my favorites of theirs.

  • @zonkedforlife2

Ask the lonely and only the young were cut, at the last minute, from Frontiers. Had those songs been on that album...well, it would've been the best journey album ever..in my opinion!

  • @zonkedforlife2 Music snobs in the industry. One must be of British descent in order to be considered truly great by many in the biz. Americans are very looked down on. Not necessarily with good reason.

  • Whether it's rock songs or slow ballads Steve Perry is best at both. Hope you look at these Steve cos i fkin love you.

  • @MrSqueezefan .Yeah i hope Steve looks at our comments too, and realises how we love and miss him so much.

  • Awesome keyboard playing in this song. Makes the song

  • @Wild1995 yes, is a remarkable work of Jon Cain, also in many other songs

  • is there any live video or audio of this song available anywhere?

  • with Steve Perry obviously...

  • Oh wasnt this song the soundtrack to the film Two of a Kind? Thats probably why there is no real video.

  • I dont think ive ever seen a real video for this song on here, has anyone else? Oh great comments beanirene and eljay, many ofus out here feel exactly the same way as you do. Steve Perry was, is, and always be my Journey, the new Journey to me seem like a tribute band.

  • Where is the "real" video to this song!? This is just a bunch of various clips! Come on!

  • I LUV THIS BAND!!!!!!!! may they live on forever

  • and then, jonathan cain brought it all together

  • the balls that ross valory had with steve and neil made the perfect contrast to the pussiness of steve perry , although he is a great singer, without the others though..... u never hear steve at his best, even if he may thin k it

  • I have always loved this song.

  • Steve was and will forever be the only lead singer of Journey for me. I've heard Arnel sing on YouTube. He has a good voice but he will never be The Voice. I don't listen to what I call New Journey now. For me no one will ever sing songs like Open Arms, Ask The Lonely,Who's Crying Now etc with the emotion and vocal ability of Steve. I wish Steve would release the new cd we have heard rumours about. I want Steve to show Neal and Jonathan it was such a terrible mistake to replace him with anyone.

  • @eljay345 Oh I think Neal knows. If you listen to the video when they got their STAR on the walk of fame.Listen really well when they announce says that "JOURNEY" (with Steve Augri was playing with them ) was playing at a club that night.Neal threws out to Steve, Why dont you come by.Steve did'nt say anything to him.By then the damage was done and Steve was never going back.

I know I dont blame Steve at all.

  • beanierene have you seen a certain video on YT when Journey got their star?Neal says he's been working on things with/without Journey and maybe Steve can come out and join them or something. Steve's reply is I just heard he's got another band. I think Neal has always considered Journey his band.Good on you Steve!!! How dare Neal ask Steve to join the band again sometime after the way Neal treated him. Idiots have even writen on Journey HWOF videos Steve had no right to attend.Unbelieveavle!

  • @eljay345 I looked online and I found part of it."Steve Perry & Neal Schon-Interview HWOF 2005"

  • @beanierene Yes that's it. I think Steve looks very pissed off with Neal in that video. Neal is being so nice and sweet to Steve in front of the interviewer and camera. That may have been when Steve Augeri was having throat/voice issues so Neal was again only thinking of himself by trying to get Steve to come back.

  • @eljay345 Now that he has Arnel, all the new fans only see Arnel. To them Neal is just a gutiar. How many times a day do you think Neal thinks what an A** he was to replace Steve?

  • @beanierene many Arnel fans have no memories of Steve as lead singer. They can't understand why so many prefer Steve's voice to his.I have so many great memories associated with every song Steve sang for Journey and solo. For many Arnel will never truly replace Steve.I do think Neal and Jonathan are hoping that with Arnel they can re-create the success and the fans they once had.But I think that time has gone forever and New Journey as I now call the band won't ever be what it was with Steve.

  • @eljay345 Agree 100%! I have no problem with Arnel personally, but he can never replace Steve! The Journey that once was can never be again, not without Steve anyhow. It was more than just his voice, which to me is REMARKABLE. It was his persona and what he brought to the stage as well! I too have many memories associated with them and the songs Steve sang. They were one of the first bands, maybe the first, I saw live and I'll never forget that show! It was incredible! Yes,that time is gone.

  • @JoviAngel60 it must have been amazing to see Journey with Steve live. I'm in New Zealand and in a wheelchair so I never got that chance.Steve was Journey for me and so many others. Neal will ever be able to recreate that. I agree it was not only Steve's voice it was his whole presence that made Journey great live. The old videos of Steve posted here singing with Journey live are amazing compared to the videos of New Journey with Arnel. They just can't be as popular with fans today as they were.

  • people actually voted this down?

dang go to the doctor journey is awesome

  • I agree Perry's voice is unique and the best . Arnel will never replicate Perry .

  • Steeeeeve Perrrrrry.......Ohhhhh......I love this Man. =)

  • amazing steve perry is journey hes like elvis, theres only one steve perry.journey hasnt done anything since steve perry, last cd i bought was trial by fire 15 yrs ago.never be the same without him.journey 78-96

  • May be the best Journey song they did.

  • This is TOPTASTIC, as in TOPTASTIC "STEVE PERRY" and JOURNEY..... THANKYOU for the MUSIC, this voice will NEVER be surpassed, in the band Journey. Waiting for a NEW Steve Perry album.............it's on the cards..........be patient, you heard it from me first.......

  • I will remember him rocking out with his signature microphone to the audience smiling ...this seemed to please him as well as the audience. Showmanship is not like this these days. He will always be timeless...miss him. The best vocalist of my generation!

  • Did anyone else see Jeff Foxworthy about 1:29 getting his jam on with the electric guitar?

  • I just watched the live in Manila concert from last year, and Schon and the boys were on fire, band sounded great. Arnel was solid, but there's a sweetness to Perry's voice that Pineda just doesn't have.

  • amazing song. the chorus is so good. neil schon's pedaled octave at the end is so perfect. brilliant player.
