Why is it when a person of color is educated, people have to make a point and say WOW she/he is so "articulate" or "intelligent". I never hear that about white people.

She is not receiving the recognition that she deserves because in the music industry today they want artists that are not necessarily creative but has a look they can work with, and could sale records. Janelle is creating music that is necessary for the soul, people need to hear this, young people need to hear it. Some may feel like she is overrated but the truth of the matter is she have done her research.

@UTubeuzername84 Have you listened to Archandroid all the way through? It is absolutely amazing. Her creativity is like none other. I think her music is just too deep for SOME people to understand. Those who see her as crazy or overrated most likely do not pay attention to her actual music. Her lyrics are powerful. I'm glad mainstream does not fully embrace her because all it would do is take the power out of her. Believe me, she has supporters and true fans. I'm definitely one of them.

@cultureinmysoul I totally agree with you. If mainstream was to get involved with her career, it would be pseudocreativity. Everything would be ready made, just to cater to the industry that wants music that is elementary and they won't have to logically think about meanings....it would have no substance. For those who really not into digging deep into meanings or listening to music with substance, it sucks for them. I mean, Lauryn Hill did it in the 90's, music without substance is pointless.
