It's probably used so much because it gives (I'm pretty sure) the most damage. The hit detection on Socom 2 isn't HORRIBLE, it's just, you know, kind of hard to kill people. If you use theother guns it takes a while to kill someone, I saw someone put 3 clips from an M4A1 SD into someone and they finally died.

I think it's funny how you waste 10 bullets before you finally get one that hits the body. I didn't really see skill in this, other than a 50 yard shot when the guy was up on the stairs, but even then it didnt' look like he was aiming at you.

M16 isn't really a newb gun, it's just one of the guns in the game that can produce S1 like hit detection.

It's a different control configuration. It allow you to shoot with x but if you hold r1 and still tap x it makes the m16 shoot like it was automatic. I believe its r1. Don't know exactly but everyone cries about cause they have no skill to stop it like me. :-)

Ah socom 2, this game was the shit! Beat Halo hands down for replayability, used to use the M16 all the time on every map I played, fave map for it was desert glory. Then they added weapon customisation in Socom 3 and practically turned the M16 into a sniper rifle with that crappy high scope. Ruined my love for the finest assault rifle in the world (after the SA-80 of course!)

I never used sureshot but it mostly helps on even surfaces (which there are a lot of in socomII). On some maps, there are SOME areas where sureshot will screw you over. Most of the time it won't. I hate people who use it and think they are good. Especially since you can double tap it for a faster shot under laggy conditions.

Most people who played socom understand that SURESHOT is the cheapest , noobiest and desperate way to get a kill. Now that MOST people have moved on from socom ...there's a WHOLE bunch of sureshot players left who think it's ok to use this cheap setting WHILE thinking they're good.
