  • People argue over FF6 and FF7, but I think this game beat them both by a mile. It was such a moving story and the soundtrack was stellar

  • How did it get from games like this to Maplestory and Runescape? It is just sad to see how much most RPGs have degraded over the last decade and a half.

  • SO MANY GAMES IN THE WORLD BUT... THIS IS THE SECRET GAME ABOUT LIFE AND NOBODY KNOWS !!! 2032 THE WORLD GOES DOWN REMEMBER THIS !!!

  • I would do almsot anything for an OCremix Album based off of The Soul Blazer Trilogy.

  • Never has music made me feel so alone and so comfortable with it.

  • dead pigs :[

  • @HeatIIEXTEND

    I MISS YOU HAMLET!

  • o boy....

  • Dood, I'd pay money to have a 10 minute version of this song just looping through.

  • Ah, Will! It's been a while. Such a world! If only I could speak of it at a university, I'd be a great scholar...

    Poor Seth...

  • I grew up playing this game (im 19 by the way) ^_^ Ah the memories lol may they never fade but always be with us in our hearts :)

  • Wow. This brought back memories. I've not played this game in forever. I need to dig out the old snes and play it again. Brilliant game! And I agree, this is a lovely song ^__^

  • best tune in the game.

  • this is suck a pretty song, so full of emotion

  • I can barely listen to this without tears in my eyes.

  • Played this game 15 years ago and I still love this song at 31. Used let it play on continuously just letting my thoughts drift on the melody. Used to whistle the tune to put my lil sis to sleep! lol. Thanks for posting

  • I cried, remembering everybody who'd died... Seth, the Russian Glass guy, Hamlet, will's parents, and Noel's as well....

  • @corjonbett Technically, Seth didn't die...if I remember correctly, he became Riverson, the monster that swallowed him.

  • IS there anywhere I can find a mp3 file of this?

  • @torchwood11 I can make one!

  • @thefalcon2k Really? If you could, don't suppose you could send it my way please?

  • I'm 26 years old. I haven't played this game in 10 years!! I've moved on with my life. Joined the military, seen the world. I don't even play COD. Video games are a waste of time. And then I hear this song and it damn near brings me to tears. This game will never lose it's grip on me. Now I have to go hunt down a super nintendo..

  • It's rather dissapointing to me that this song makes so many "Saddest VGM" lists. I don't see this as sad, certainly not like Will's Dream. In the Earthen Womb just brings me peace, and comfort. Like I'm lying in a grassy field staring up at a starlit sky watching the clouds roll slowly by, and all the world's evils just seem so far away.

If anything can be said to be "sad", it is that this sort of beauty is not as easy to notice as this world's ugliness because we don't try to find it.

  • @MysticalManatee I agree, I wouldn't call this song 'sad', it more falls under 'nostalgia' and even 'reverie' in terms of what it has a tendency of doing to the listener. For me, it's the former, because me, like so many others that played this game, the music made such an impact on my life that I'm still listening to it today, and it causes memories of those times to come flowing back and it really chokes me up. It creates a great yearning for the past inside me that I don't want to let go of.

  • @MysticalManatee you took the words right out of my mouth

  • This song plays to one of the single best quotes I have ever read in a video game.

"Touched by the comet's light, I gained immortality. But is there a meaning to eternal life? I felt more alive when I had a terminal disease."

That quote crushed me. It is the very quote that instilled the fear of immortality in my soul. To live beyond any capacity for which our mind can possibly comprehend... no end to the number of minutes, hours, days, years... it would truly be the death of who you were.

  • I loved the music in this game. So atmospheric...

My favourite track has always been Will's Dream though.

  • Dear Nintendo,

Please create a re-make of this prestigious 17 year old game for the 3DS!

  • everyone on here is being so god damned sappy.

  • @Mrmtjones Well, we have good memories of this game. We were all children then. I think everybody has some memory(memories) of the time when our lives were simpler that we are fond of...let us enjoy these trek down memory's lane for old times sake before returning to our adult lives...

  • I'm trying to write this song in midi form. >.<

  • i wish i still had this game

  • Timeless music, these were the days when RPG's were awesome it was all about the music and story and not so much on soul less polish.

  • @AngelLight81 Indeed A Golden Age OF RPGs ;^;_;^;

Our World could be seen as a COSMIC MMORPG O_O

  • @AngelLight81

I have a lot of more fun with modern RPG's but I agree with you. They just don't evoke emotions the way they used to.

  • This is one of those songs that will make you shiver and maybe tear when you listen to them as a child. And the effect only intensivies with age

  • When I first heard this while playing Illusion of Gaia at my friend's back in the day, I instantly fell in love with it. Such a beautiful piece of music. I think one day, when I draw my final breath, I want to have this played and reminisce about my life.

  • love this song <3

  • This music needs to be remixed with a very pretty lady with a beautiful voice singing the melody. Im sure some nice sweet sounding lyrics can be made for this.

  • People always ask what is beauty.. i say, this music is beauty combined with great memories. Love this game, it's deep..

  • ...This game needs a remake, or a DS port. I totally dont care. I'd buy it either way.

  • I am so lucky to have a decently working Super Nintendo and this game is my all time favorite. I am still able to play Illusion of Gaia, and it is the game that started me down the path of gaming. since i prefer games with depth and story behind them, i can truthfully and happily blame it on this game. i just wish i could find the sheet music to this song, but thank you so so so very much for posting it up here on youtube!!

  • This Game is unique

  • This brings up good memories......

  • Illusions Of Gaia Is a classic no doubt about it, but i have the english version of this game which was titled Illusions Of Time, still same game but just slightly different title as Illusions Of Gaia was the Japanese version if i am correct, but yes i was only a child myself when i played this & completed it all the way through, i am now 33 years old, but 1 track that will always stick with me was this track in the game, it is a good track to the game & very touching.

  • What a beautiful soul soothing theme. I never played the game before but after seeing a LP of it, its definitely worth playing

  • I was 10 when I played this. I didnt fully understand it at the time, but for a SNES game, it was pretty deep. The Jackal, the Mayans, Hamlet sacrificing himself...there were many thematic elements in this game that really set aside from other adventure titles. And this game does take me back, sitting in my hot room, 1:30 at night, on a steamy summer night.

  • @silverlunastar39 I used to do this and watching shooting stars, wondering how small we are all. It is just a small ditch in the evolution that we can experience life like it is now...only a small ditch. - We should never forget this.

  • I should replay this again , but without help cause I was 8 last time I played

  • When I was about 9 years old, I was playing this game while very sick with my mom. She fell asleep on the couch and I kept playing. Eventually I saved and accidentally decided to rest for awhile. Instead of getting up to reset I was lulled to sleep by this song. Will never forget that.

  • when i was 6 when played this i beat it and then i asked my parents if i could go see gaia lol this song brings lots of good memories back

  • Change the title to Illusion of gaia/time your monkey!

  • @KnaRRaN1989

How does one time a monkey?

  • Since this song is also in Illusion Of Time =)

  • @KnaRRaN1989 it is the same game in america it was called illusion of Gaia a crossed seas it was called illusion of time Gaia is the Godess of time

  • Thumbs up if you want this played at your funeral.

  • i never got to play this game, seeing that i was too young and such, but i always watched my dad play it. im trying to get my hands on a duper nintendo and this game now.. hope i have luck w finding it!

  • I never understood the entire story that much, but the character development was the best part of the game and I felt I could connect with each character.

I remember when lance said "I feel like a million Summer days!"

  • This song was playing in my head when my gf broke up with me. Almost telling me everything will be better. Thanks for posting. :-)

  • this song is the perfect remedy to hours of sleepless gameplay.

thumbs up if you've been there :D

  • 1 dislike on this!? Are you joking me?

Anyway, I'm playing this game right now and I'm listening to it now after I saved it :)

  • If Gaia is the spirit of the earth, wouldn't that make the beings on this planet that inhabit it it's soul?

  • You don't get tunes like this anymore :(

  • In all the top X music lists, Illusion of Gaia is always ignored. When music has the power to do the things that this song is capable of, I don't see how you can ignore it. I love the final boss theme as well, but if I had to pick one song, this one is just too beautiful to ignore. I always remember the scene where Seth(?) recovers his lost memories and the symbolism attached when I hear this. Just an amazing piece.

  • i need to cry....

  • @argreetha me too, its so beautiful and... *cry* =,(

  • beautiful.......

  • so i realize that its only an opinion, regardless of how much i feel i have the right to say its more than that, but this is easily the most under-rated snes game. Ive played all the big games for the snes, its my favorite system, and i can say beyond a doubt that there are only a handful at best that had the charm and emotional power this game had. Also, the music is incredible. Not as good a a few of the top tier, but this piece is epic.

  • the simply Melody its a candy Dream

  • i had a crappy childhood i was beaten alot but this song all it does is bring back the good memories of it i feel like im just watching myself all over again all in 2 minutes and 50 secs when i played this for the first time i played it when i slept helped me sleep i didnt think of it emotional until now

  • Wow that's alot of info but I fell you man. This reminds me of childhood friends. Yes I wasn't actually beaten but I was harassed like a mofo at junior high because I was small and timid.

  • @JamesRideout123

I had the same problem except i did fight back occasionally.

I had it as bad as anybody did in that because i was in a different country suffering from mild autism and neurofibromitosis and have a speech defect.

And i was always treated as inferior and in fact was put down.

So much in fact that it left a mark and i was depressed and used to get sick constantly.

  • Yeah.

  • No, it's not weird.. I feel terribly nostalgic when I hear this song .. it reminds me a lot of falling asleep playing when I was little..

  • @abion224 I listened to it to sleep as well, now that I hear it I feel differently - like I'm going back to that time, but still feel some part of it beyond the time I was in when I first heard it. Hope for both our sakes that the old, illusion, is not totally lost

  • It is truly an amazing song. I feel so many emotions well up every time I hear this even back when I was a kid playing this game. I don't know whether to laugh or cry as memories of both happiness and heartbreak surface. It just can't be described with words the way it touches the deepest part of my soul

  • i loved this song i wauld save the game and listion to this after the dark space theam

  • I am now 30 yrs old, and whenever I am listening to this song, I can clearly see the first time I played this and listened to that wonderful song.

Whenever I listen to it, it feels like I am standing next to myself, travelling back in time and seeing all my life passing by - happy and sad moments, and when I return to present it leaves a tear in my face.

"The time will heal most of our wounds, this is our only comfort." - Lilly's words when Lance's memories returned (German version)

  • I know>.i miss the 90's too...but I am only 19....

  • @NinjaAlby I'm 25, and it's exactly the same with me. Not only do I see myself, but I recall all of the hopes, dreams and ambitions of my childhood. It's like i'm 12 years old again. All that optimism, fearlessness and spirit. I always bring a little of it back with me every time, from half a lifetime ago.

    MaricAlistaro... Thank you :)

  • @NinjaAlby

    Same goes for myself.

I will be 30 this year and i remember this game fondly.

Beutifull game that brings meaning to life.

  • @NinjaAlby this game was goddamn powerful. And it's so weird, because it's the second one in the series. I think its leaps and bounds ahead of the first and third. One of the reasons SNES remains my favourite system.

  • @IdeonFukkatsu AFAIK this game is based on a novel/book. I remember the last trip from the comet back to earth with Princess Karah, where they stood on the surface and watched the earth. The main purpose of this game was to open peoples' eyes and realizehow evolution can influence not only your life but others lives as well - be it either positive or negative. But it IS part of our life...

  • @NinjaAlby glad i'm not the only one here.

I miss those early days,i feel like all is lost at time.

But i think that having one chance at something allows us to appreciate things more.

  • @piromaniac9999 I am remembering the words right now "My name is Lance. I grew up in the town of South Cape." - I think these were the words he used after the magic of this melody begins to restore his memories. I haven't played this game for years, but I can still remember these words just be listening to this song and seeing how everyone was sitting around the table. - It takes lots of passion to create music with that powerful magic and effect...

  • @NinjaAlby Having a tragedy happen is not twhat makes it tragic, its the actual story combined with character build up which makes you appreciate and love the character.

This is what illusion of gaia has and what makes it great.

  • @NinjaAlby i love you for saying this. I am 27, and I feel the same way.

  • @NinjaAlby From that one line of dialogue, I can already tell it's translated better in German than English. XD

  • @NinjaAlby Right on the spot. I have played many games since IoG, and lived many things since elementary school when I begged my pa' to buy me this game, but to this day I still regard this game, and the story it depicts in its simplistic and innocent way...truly loved this song back then, and now that I hear it again it still touches some hidden part of my soul. And I certainly concur with your vision. Truly, as its named in japanese, this depicts the true Illusion of Time.

  • @NinjaAlby You and me both, every time.

  • i always put up this song when i go study, it helps relax, you should try it ;)

  • so peaceful and serene; some of my fondest memories were venturing to worlds like this. this tune embodies that nicely

  • este juego fue el primer juego de rol ke termine y creo ke el mejor

  • This reminds me on my childhood.. i was just 3 or 4 years old..

    WOW :)

  • I remember getting this game at a thrift store a loooong time ago. I was so young at the time, but I remember this song wold always make me tear up...

  • Such a beautiful song. It also reminds me of how far Will's come.

  • BEST GAME EVER!!!

  • One of the best games ever!!!!!

i'm speachless at the thought of the gameplay and storyline

  • Imagine if this was sung by a choir.

  • I'm only 14 (and French, so sorry for my bad english xD) but when I remember of this game, I feel very old ! xD Aaaah, a lot of good memorys, it's the BEST SNES GAME ! :D (with Zelda of course xD)

  • holy shit!!!! this game was awesome. so many memorys.

  • It's nice to see others who felt this game was important to them growing up. Nostalgia yes! But damn is it sweet

  • Great and thoughtful comments from many of you, I can share your longing for the past. There´s many of us who think so... enjoy life.

  • This song makes me reflect on my life, and ponders about what happens after death. A very touching song.

  • This is more that a simple game.

I returns about 15 years ago.

    :'(

  • This game is really one of the best, Love it!!!!!

  • T___T que recuerdos ...

  • its a shame this song has such a small amount of views. truely, this song is the one that brought me back to an adventure i was proud to be a part of

  • I loved this game, it brought me back to my memories when I was young to play and I passed millions time. I knew this song. It was where her little cute pig ran and jumped in the fire to save them. I cried as idiot but the song affect me. Oye!

  • This isn't the song that plays when Hamelet dies. The song that plays is Will's Dream. This song is heard on the way up to the final boss, when Lance recovers his memory, and when you rest your adventure at the save point. It is a beautiful song, and it should have been heard more throughout the game.

  • This song, for me at the very least, calls to a different time, when things were simpler. Many of us remember being children when we first played this game, and this game has touched us all. This song, much as it did for the characters in the game, has given us a glimpse back into our own memories from so many years ago. For myself...this song is like standing on the edge of oblivion, seeing the entire expanse of creation and understanding the place I have. I, like you, long for the past.

  • i agree with this

Everytime when i listen this i remeber my past. when my life was good and not so troublesome as today

these 2.50 minutes are the only few minutes were i feel good these days

  • i tried to write something, but what I feel when I think about this game can't be written into words

simply some of my most fondest memories of being a child and being at peace

  • This brings back so much memories.. I'm 25 now and can still remember playing this game back when I was 10 years old.. Thats 15 years ago.. Time goes by too quick.

  • no kidding man..I am in college and I can still remember my very first day of kinder garden

  • I think this is possibly the best game of all time, the story just touched me... And the music was equally beautiful

  • I choke up into tears when I hear this song. When I close my eyes, I can see memories of things long gone, things that I want to grasp one last time, even if only for a short moment...

  • very very well said, tears come to my face too. very touching how you described it, i miss the late 80's and 90's world, everything in the past had more life to it, even now if i were to play this game i would get that same wonderful feeling,....i miss it.

  • I want to cry when i heard this sound, i wish live with them in this game, so many thing beautiful <3

  • Like the name implies this song is very...motherly? I guess that's a weird word to describe a SOUND, but that's how it feels. Like Will decides to rest, and I can almost see him curled up, with Gaia keeping him safe as he sleeps.

  • ...then rest for a while...

  • Thank you thank you thank you............ I been searching for this in such a long time... My most favorite rpg music.. Ever.......

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOO found it! ive been looking everywhere for this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah its pretty badass...

  • also I would be great full if you could tell me were I could acquire this masterpiece

  • one of my all time favorite games and tracks, brings up memories

  • My thoughts the same,livininpueblo!!

  • u should put the ost on here the music is great

  • my favorite song of the game

  • Yeah it was a quality song this was the first rpg i played and its still my favourite till this day, i also liked wills dream song!

  • I wa thinkin of maybe posting the entire OST since I havnt been able to find it on youtube. Anrone Intersted?

  • Yes.

  • Yes! Please!

  • you should, it's awesome, and here's a suggestion on games you should play if you have any chance, don't know if you have played tales of phantasia, it's a hacked rom for the snes, it's really worth playing so if you find the rom, as an rpg fan I highly recommend it

  • @MaricAlistaro YES did you?
