In real life, the real leader of the strike (and I don't think they lived in lodges but on the streets) was Kid Blink, the boy with the eyepatch.

@WhatBurnsMyBacon You're right that Kid Blink was one of the strike leaders back in 1899 along with boys named Jack Sullivan and Kelly the Rake. I guess that's where they came up with Jack Kelly/Frances Sullivan and Swifty the Rake for the movie. But those boys didn't live on the street, they actually lived at the Duane Street Lodging House @ #9 Duane Street in New York. Alot of Newsies were homeless street kids, but not the strike organizers.Most of the characters names were the real names.
