In my lifetime the Episcopalian church hotly debated the appointment of black clergy because they were not qualified by color to lead the people of God. @Beeirish1965 Allowing same-sex marriage does not promote homosexuality any more than allowing women to vote promotes being a woman. Allowing same-sex marriage is not going to turn people gay. The people who want to get married are not going to suddenly turn straight simply because we are denied the right to get married. Marriage does not make babies, marriage binds relationships and protects families. Gay people have families to protect. Denying them that is nothing short of hate.

Marriage establishes next of kinship for legal purposes, it allows me to bestow upon my partner all of my belongings in the event of my death and it keeps my family from taking it instead. In my lifetime the Episcopalian church hotly debated the appointment of black clergy because they were not qualified by color to lead the people of God. Christians bussed their little white kids to church schools rather than have them sit beside their colored brothers and sisters in class. Half a millenium ago, the Church of England was established and approved divorce. Queen Elizabeth granted religious freedom in England. Now we have interracial and interreligious marriages all the time. Society is constantly evolving and the terrified masses are always trying to hold it back.
