  • 1 minute of that snow machine would have been sufficient. 5 minutes? Boring!

  • Maybe they should just close it down at North Bend! Then there would be no truck traffic hauling food to Seattle!

    Great Job washdot!

  • in the uk they would use a bucket and spade

  • I assume this was a triggered snow slide/avalanche?

  • I used to live on Snoqualmie Pass at Conifer Lodge. The Rock Chalet was there then back in 1969-72. Rod Rodegus(sp) lived through one of these snow shed slides. he was the tow truck owner back then and lived at Hyak in the pretty chalet there upstairs. the guy he was trying to get unstuck died that day because he did not jump under his truck like rod did. My family was the Matt Noonan family. I spent the best imes of my youth at Snoqualmie Pass.

  • man u guys must work hard

  • Uh beaman & Lokigaea... I think ya need to check yo self. They are doing the snowshed thingy over both sides... and adding a third lane to each direction, at a cost of about $545 Million... So, yea, they do cost a bit. The old shed was built a very long time ago when Snoqualmie Pass was just a two lane road and adding the snow shed was just too cost prohibitive... can't anybody just be happy that it's not a two lane road anymore???

  • Why don't they just build snow sheds over the whole road- or would that be cost prohibitive?

  • Because the more money they spend. The more they get back next year. Good ol government spending!

  • You got it...cost to much...I've driven thru the pass, it is beautiful, specially when the nsow is coming down

  • This is pretty close to what is going on up there now with this long storm, I'm so Not looking forward to driving home to Seattle tomorrow. But I do love snow and Snoqualmie pass is beautiful this time of year, any time of year, I just prefer winter.

  • WOw. Just this year, around Feb 2nd or so 75 miles of Snoqualmie pass and I90 were closed. I have driven this pass in the winter before and it was nerve racking. They say it costs millions of lost dollars in commerce every day the pass is closed....

  • I heard about the avalanche control, but never seen one. Used to live in Bellevue WA.

  • imagine a bigger avalanche

  • Sheeeeeet that's massive, imagine all that snow falling on top of you

  • Type in "eschoniger" in the search bar and look at our sledding videos, the second one is better. Awesome Vid By the way!

  • It gets pretty quiet and peaceful over here in Roslyn when the pass closes.

  • I'm from roslyn too, I bet we know each other.

  • WSDOT is suppose to build a shed on the eastbound lanes in 2010 and extend the current one to sevral miles long in both directions work should be finished around 2015.

  • no they are tearing down the one that is there...and might rebuild..but not for certain yet!

  • Perfect example of how ridiculous this set up is. Look at the snow shed protecting the westbound traffic but the eastbound is like driving in front of a gun barrel! How could the government allow this? I only hope they don't wait until someone is killed, like in the rock slide accident not too far from there. In the past it used to have a snow shed for both lanes.I assume to cut cost they figured the westbound did not need it when the road revision took place, really smart move!

  • actually the snow sheds were originally designed to have two way traffic through them when the avalanche danger was a problem...you can still see remnants of the old snow shed on west side as well...guess we got our money's worth out of those...but you are right, it's time to step up and fix em so it's not a problem

  • you mean east bound...and the snow wont go off the snowshed usually unless they trigger the blast and push enough off.

  • drove through there yesterday before they closed it.

  • I remember that. My dad lived in grays harbor at the time and I am going to cwu and the pass closed right as I got there to go back to school. SO I had to trun around and go down I-5 and drive all the way down to White Pass. That SUCKED!

  • i live in snoqualmie wa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember that!
