  • I'll drink to this song early in the mornin'

  • out of this world love it .

  • Really like this song. I catch myself singing it time to time lol

  • @dieseldude830 Me too!!

  • My kind of POP country. lol

  • Was lucky enough to see Jim sing this song live a couple of years ago at Dollywood, and he still sounds absolutely great! "A row of fools on a row of stools...". What a legendary country lyric! By the way, he did the pop-a-top sound effect with a cheek pop and a "SSSSSS". Sounded as good as the recorded sound effect on the record. Songs like this never die.

  • Love you jim,,,,

  • All the heaven bells were ringing...

  • loved this until those scumbag t-mobile dickweeds started making watch the crap commercial. if i buy a phone they are now last on my list!!!!

  • Pete Drake plays pedal steel on this great original , Paul Franklin plays a virtual tribute to him on Alan Jacksons version, Petes licks are a integral part of this song especially the lick after "let some other fool sit down" at the end of first verse and at the end.

Pete Drake, legendary nashville steel player session man .

  • I can remember going down the road with my grandparents listening to this... That's the testiment of a true artist. Loyalty after almost 60 years

  • P.S.: At the beginning it sounds like he's popping the top on a can of beer, not a bottle (like in Alan Jackson's version). Oh yeah, and I'll say it again - this is gold. :)

  • Pop a top! Beer of champions!!! I love it when this song always comes on the local radio.

  • I liked Alan Jackson's cover, but this is still the best!

  • Now this is country music!!! TRUE STORY

  • This is a great one!

  • great song !

  • Thanks for this certainly a gem. Just looked him up on spotify hes got a great voice, never heard of him or The Browns until now.

  • @schnibsey Great, REAL country music. =)

  • Excellent two-steppin' song! Wow! Thanks for posting this. Alan J. did a good job on this one, but you can't beat the original. I remember this on the stereo before mom & dad went out dancing Friday nights at the Diamond Ballroom. We used to have fun when my sister would babysit me & her other bratty brother. What memories.

  • love this stuff, thanks

  • Reminds me of Garner State Park in Texas. We played this song all the time. Long time ago!

  • @53maggiemay Me too!

  • @53maggiemay

Im from Texas, had Hi School Senior Trip to Garner......................

    WOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sorry to say I'm in Alaska now

  • hello

  • One's too many n' a hunert ain't enuff!

  • The great Jim Ed on his own. Big, big hit for him! Nice.

  • In this series of "Ten hidden gems..." this song should be #1 for sure! Does it get more country'er than this???

  • I heard this song by Alan Jackson 1990. It wasn't to bad but this version is a quieter sound, Still its a good song that will be added to my Ipod.................

  • I loved this the first time I heard it in a bar in Yokosuka Japan and it just doesn't get any better than this rendition!

  • trivia - hope no one already told this - I saw Jim Ed tell Ralph Emery that the "pop" is from a Dr. Pepper. Apparently they tried several drinks, and Dr Pepper had the best sound!

  • I love Jim Ed's vioice!! Glenn Keener on the lead guitar is a awesome asset too!! Thanks for posting.

  • THIS is my uncle

  • this is my uncle

  • awesome song, prefer this to Alan Jackson's cover version

  • i want the flip side of this son when it was on 45 rpm "too good to be true"

  • The best version! Good, hard. country,..at it's finest.

  • sounds like a beer commercial

    someone call Schlitz

  • Now this old skool bar sittin' playin' the juke box texas bar music right there! Whewwwwwwww Dogggggies!!!

  • Now this is country!!!

  • this is my ucle

  • yes he is very alive and well...in arkansas this week... welcome home J.E.

  • This guy is great!

  • I am from Denmark, but i'm gonna move to the best place in the world soon (you all know the name). i just wanna say that i love this song, and i have grown up with this kind of music my entire life!

  • Still lovin' Jim Ed ! !

  • Best Version!!

  • according to wikipedia, he is still alive

awesome tune....they sure don't make country like this anymore

  • he is alive and so are his two sisters who sang the perfect pitch harmony with him..in later 1980's he called me at home to do a gig with him at local military officers club: he got my name thru local muscians union in SA, TX.he asked me if I could play country without charts and if I knew his recordings,I was exicted to get this gig..,but later he called back to say the gig was canceled,,the military had a ceiling for payments on bands. I called the union who confirmed the call.

  • I totally agree with The shirttail, Jim Ed's version is much better then Alan Jackson's.

  • does anyone know if Jim Ed Brown is still alive?

  • @MyJamesbond123, yes he is vertical.

  • @flashbell wouldn't that be horizontal?

  • @57mab , don't know what you are talking about!

  • @flashbell reference to your reply to Myjamesbond123 about a month ago (re: Jim Ed Brown being alive or not) your answer was "yes he is vertical'.

  • @57mab , Oh yeah. You caught me on that one. Wow! What was I thinking?

  • @flashbell no biggy, 'course, that would be a novel idea of saving space !

  • @57mab , I just didn't remember my TV repair days. Verticle line meant no horizontal deflection.

  • @MyJamesbond123

yes he's very much alive and still touring..

  • @MyJamesbond123 Yes he is still alive....he is 76.

  • @MyJamesbond123 yes he is stilll alive ok get ur facts right

  • Will Anyone Buy Me A Beer?

  • Beautiful song and vocal. Love the internal rhymes - very inventive.

  • He's really too smooth for this sad song, which would benefit from a wearier or rougher delivery.

  • @leakystarfish . You violated our channel policy with your four letter word, so you will be blocked from our channel if you are a repeat offender..

  • @leakystarfish

what an oh so very productive argument you have there and seeing how you swear at random people and suggest they go through basic education again you must be one hell of an argument maker. i seem to be outmatched here *runs away*

  • One's too many an a hunert's not enuff!

  • His voice is so smooth.

  • Jim Ed had so much class... true professionals...Gentleman Jim Ed Brown....and The Immortal Jim Reeves

  • "Murder On Music Row" was one of the final gasps of classic style country to make it onto modern country radio. If not for the internet and satellite radio you couldn't find this stuff anywhere. I liked this song when I was a kid and it's still great today (and this is from a man who listens to Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin). My Mom turned me on to this music in the '60s and I still love it today.

  • The first single I bought of him!

the first time I heard it--I was stuck!

  • i cant believe that i read through your whole profanity sniffing police pollicy and the first real comment i read posted nine months ago that also happens to be the highest rated has swearing in it.

it's not that i did'nt like his comment i'm just asking what the point of writing that was

  • @ledzeppelin27 , I don't understand your comment/question? Plese clarify.

  • @flashbell you clearly said absolutely no profanity was allowed on your channels comments whatsoever. your highest rated has something i wouldn't like my kinder gardener offspring to read online

  • @ledzeppelin27 , well we have almost eight hundred uploads and according we are under staffed, so unfortunately we miss one now and then. Consequently, we are debating to either stop publishing or try to seek additional resources necessary to support our channel to the fullest extent. Tell us where the comment is so we can remove it. Thank you.

  • @flashbell but seeing as it is nine months old, you must have at some time judged it to be non-offensive and in reality at least from my perspective it isn't. but it might be to someone you know?

  • When Jim Reeves Passed Away; Jim Ed Brown Was My Choice As To Whom Would Come Closest To Replacing Jim Reeves. Jim Ed Brown; A Fantastic Singer With A Superlative Voice. Thanks For Upload.

  • This is classic stuff by Jim Ed Brown, and he did a great job with this solo hit, which, I believe, was his first after the breakup of the Browns. Also a very smooth country style.

  • Too True. LOVE THIS SONG

  • amen..using profanity izz just a lack of the command of the english language..i worked in radio ...and wazz taught that yearzzz ago...you got fired..period !

  • Now that is music to my ears! Forgive the pun :) Tho I am only 19 I would much rather listen to this then some of the new music. I am not gonna mention my least favorite RAP lol Great Song!

  • I love Jim Ed, but seriously lay off the guys and girls who don't like him. I understand why some folks don't like him. That doesn't affect my opinion. I hate to see anyone excluded from a discussion because they have a different opinion. I wonder if Joseph was the first one to say "Jesus!" when he hit his thumb with a hammer. We only have a short time on this world, lets overlook differences and speak to each other honestly, with no fear of retribution. There wont be another chance

  • I like great music in ANY style......and this is GREAT music!!!

  • Remember this song being the #1 Honky Tonk song in Amarillo in the early 70s.

  • @flashbell you must stop love the song

  • you mede to stop love the song

  • this is the best a lot sang this song

  • This just takes me back to those wonderful easy days when my Dad was alive and he would listen to these incredible country songs while working in the garage or driving in the pickup.....such good memories...makes me wistful!

  • I just popped a top.. .again. :l

  • its great to hear the old county singers. They may not be around but its good to look back and remember . This is county western LOVE IT.

  • just try to ignore the stupid, people. you probably right he voted for obama thanks flashbell

  • The best country music, bar none, are these 'ol honkey tonk two-steps! And this-un here is a stone cold classic! Boy nuthin' can beat the smooth sound of Mr. Jim Ed Brown, and when you combine his voice with a memorable beer-hall tune like this, it makes you long for the good 'ol days. The 'kids" now days out of Nashville could take a country lesson or two from Jim Ed...

  • Hey, Sparks. This one is for you , buddy. Come see me.

  • @MrPieman1011 FIRST NAME ??

  • Pop a Top again !!

  • that acrowwing is such a retard, and all his music is crap.he is also a cracker.MUHAHAHAHAHA

  • Super Smooth!

  • I got to hang out with him at the Nashville palace a few days back! It was the 2cnd time id met him, what a great legend!

  • This is a great song for doing the Texas Two-Step except that you have to step a little faster to keep with Jim Ed's beat. His song "He'll have to Go" is a country classic but can also be appreciated as a ballad by mainstream (Nawthern) audiences.

  • This music reminds me of my my mama and my father, they did everything right but I still turned out gay!

  • What country music is supposed to sound like! Thanks for sharing.

  • @flashbell Right on Flash

  • Pure talent and a gentlman...5 stars!

  • why is modern country all pop, it anoys me to hear such crap like brooks n dunn, they need to grow up, there in there 40s and still singin bout gettin laid, now alan jackson hes one of the many few who still plays good country, sure he has copied some songs like this one and re sung them but he didnt butcher them like most other singers do. i will miss johny cash :(

  • he was such a smooth singer, easy to listen to!!!!

  • You don't have to agree with the comments on here but please show the same respect you would like.

  • Anyone know when this song was first released? I'm guessing in the 70"s.

  • @busholiday My guess would be between 1968 - 1971. I know I remember it from my childhood.

  • Alan Jacksons version is good, but this the best by far.

  • I love this song! I saw Jim Ed Brown in Tampa & his voice is still as smooth as ever!

  • Thank You

  • I love this song !! Thanks so much for posting is !! Old country is the best !!!

  • I had a chance a few years back to play a show at the Rhyman. Jim Ed was there and borrowed my guitar tuner...LOL. He is a great person! He is very nice. I hope he sees this...

    ...Bubba

  • What a classic! The lyrics, the voice, the top being popped! Oh, yes.

  • Thanks for the memories from my childhood! Two thumbs up!

  • thanks for the upload

  • This is a great drinkin' song. I can't drink anymore though, I break out in handcuffs.

  • Love this song. I remember just before tv became common we use to sit out in the yard and listen to the grand old opera through the screen doors. The old songs had a timeless quality in them. They didn't use fancy electronic makeovers but let their beautiful rich voice prove that they truly were talented.

  • @howiemack1926 Now let's get it straight - it's not grand old opera, it's "Grand Ole Opry"! Just kidding. I agree and still love this stuff.

  • I met Jim when I first went to Nashville. Nice guy, and really looks like a star.

  • In the evening after work ,I can sit and listen for hours to this wonderful music !!

  • What a great song. I love the Alan Jackson version, and I didn't even realize it was a cover. This one is great too, it's nice to hear country that isn't whiny, repetitive, and with forced southern accents. This just goes to show that it's a timeless classic.

  • Growing up in Houston, this was all-time favorite country song ... thanks for posting it!

  • Sometimes memories are bittersweet and this song brings them all flooding back.Thank God for memories and Jim Ed Brown. He is the best and so are you for giving me the chance to hear this wonderful song again.

  • An absolute favorite since my teens!

  • love this guy ....he is awesome

he did now harm......fuck your stupid comments

  • margusify-original and best-but Alan's version runs him close!

  • I grew up on rock and roll in the 60's and 70's, couldnt stand country music. Found this song last week after hearing a few Brown tunes.

Smooth is right. He has a great voice! To me it's like a brand new release. The band is great as well.

  • I'm so impressed with just how smooth Jim Ed's vocal is... just superb. I heard the AJ version first, and it's great.... but this is sooo smooth!! Did I mention smooth?? ~KK

  • Ahhhmen to that....Jim Ed's voice really is smooth. Love this song since I was a kid.

Todays country can't hold a candle to this classic

  • When I was about 10 or so I remember driving to my grandfather's lake cottage before the interstates were complete and hitting many roadside taverns "to get the dust out of our throats" and hearing this in on the juke box, with a bag of chips and a grape Nehi.

  • Great beer song..yeah, its still better than the Allan Jackson version because its the original. No harm meant to AJ fans

  • I LOVE this song so much. I heard it for the first time back when I was about 15 and I have considered it one of the all time greats!!! Thank you for uploading this for others to enjoy!

  • A classic!

  • Comment removed

  • Nobody uses real instruments anymore. It's all synthesizers, pre-programmed drums, etc. Even the country songs. It's sad.

  • Comment removed

  • Things change. I'm quite frankly very thankful for my "virtual" instruments or I'd NEVER be doin music. It's how you use the stuff that really counts. However, thanks to Youtube, we have killer music like this to enjoy!! Thanks. ~Kenn King

  • Alan Jackson is good doing this song, but Jim Ed is the best ;-)

  • Great "old School Country".Makes me want to go up to RJ's Saloon in Weston,Missouri and have a cold one!!!

  • I love this original and the Alan Jackson version.

  • Great song, great singer, great dance tune.

  • Not to many like him around anymore, too bad

  • Nothin' like a drinkin' song about yer basic everyman who gets dumped (but who was guilty of what to cause this chain of events is not fully explained), then antes up to the bar to drown his sorrows and unload his tale to a bartender or patron who;d probably rather be bowling.,..

  • my mothers favorite country singer!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this video. I'm brand new to Youtube... (joined just this week).... I love how ''in-depth'' you explore these great artists and their legacies.--- I Would enjoy a friend invite. -- until then, best wishes, from Paul in Florida.

  • Jim Ed Brown..we love so from Nashville Now..and where's that lovely blonde gal who used to sing with ya"ll?? For America, for Dixie..we love you

  • Remember the old country Star Search he hosted on TNN in the 80's?

  • @mollymmorrissey I believe you're referring to Helen Cornelius. I remember them too, on "That Good Old Nashville Music".

  • Blows the new version away! Sorry Alan!

  • One of the first songs of him--I heard!

    And I got stuck .....

    He is (was?) fantastic!

  • Mr. Smooth......saw Jim Ed at the Opry in August. Was awesome. I also like when he does Jim Reeves songs. Support these country legends, call up the stations like WSM in Nashville and have them play the records

  • Boy! This is one great smooooth honky-tonker! I can just see people shuffling along to a two-step on a wooden floor at some roadside bar on a Saturday evening say back around '65. I was there!

  • I was there..Its a good one for sure. I love the country classics. But takes me back to better times and we know ..we cant go back! Margie sunnitwo

  • Stop being a FOUL-MOUTHED IDIOT. We don't need that language . This is whats wrong with the world , of today. No respect for anything or anybody.

  • @Hollcall . We blocked that viewer and removed their foul comments. We do not tolerate such language on ou channel.

  • Well done! Not a PRUDE , but foul language distracts from any message we attempt to imply.

    A kinder, gentler world is far more important then ;

Macho/Hot or In your face tough!!!!!

  • @Hollcall dude, first time i seen someone post that other than myself, amen man.

  • Loooove this! Every Saturday I hang with my Dad and listen some good old country. This is one of our favorites. Thanks for posting it!!!

  • Great song! way before my time but my dad made sure i grew up with the classics. Thanks for posting this! :)

  • This is an oldie ,great 10 srar!!

  • A viewer keeps giving our uploads just one star. If they don't like original country music, why don't they go somewhere else. It takes a lot of time and money to produce this channel. So, if we keep getting that lone star, we may just decommission this channel and take up golf. At least golphers get more then one star it seems!

  • Top quality art from the days when the USA still existed and country & western had soul and guts.

  • AMEN! Your words are so true! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • It doesn't get much better than this. :)

  • I was in Jim Ed's dressing room at the CMA awards in '72 and, reaching for a cig, said "Do you mind if I smoke?"

Jim Ed said, "If you were a singer, they'd tell you that smoking is bad for you".

    I said, "But I"m not a singer. I'm just a radio announcer."

Jim Ed said, "I am a singer. Would you hand me that pack of Winstons there on the table beside you"?

Jim Ed is truly a nice guy with a sense of humor.

  • This is great!!

  • @RWTXldb Funny how they always said smoking was bad for your singing voice, but most of the country and pop singers smoked like chimneys. Hmmm . . . maybe that's why I was never able to make a go of singing professionally. Actually, most of the non-smoking "old school" country singers were women (Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn, Jean Shepard, et al.

  • LOOOVEEE THIS

  • Love the man and the song. (Even a bigger fan of The Browns). Have been watching some old Country's Family Reunion tapes with him sharing stories, singing and doing an awesome Jim Reeves tribute. Ended up sending him a fan letter yesterday (only the second in my 60 years-the other to Harry Carey Jr.) and recieved a nice reply back from him today(email). Thanks flashbell for uploading it.

  • A awesome song. Just heard it on the radio. He sings like a normal person, not like those new country goofballs.

  • You are damn right about that for sadly the true sound of country music has been destroyed and now all you hear is that garbage that greedy record industry have the gall to call country music.

  • @noaanhc Hank Williams JR., Allen Jackson, Tobey Keith, George Straight, Marc Chesnut all remain true to COUNTRY MUSIC... there's a few others too...Garth Brooks, Tracey Lawrence, Faith Hill, Dixie Chicks, Brooks & Dunn, Brad Pasley, all deserve honorable mention and a great big Thank you very much

  • @mollymmorrissey cough cough...not Brad

  • I think this is by far the best version of this song! Although Alan Jackson"s version is very, very good. Just something about Jim Ed Brown

  • This is a classic country big hit , Alan Jacksons version is also superb . The thing that is interesting is Pete Drake played pedal steel guitar on this original version and on Alan jacksons remake the steel player, Paul Franklin plays almost identical licks. That to me is the sign of a great session musician where original licks become such an important part of the song they cant be changed or left out.

  • My favorite country song, lost woman cold beer, what else is there? This is true life to me!

  • would have loved to heard him and Jim Reeves together
