  • That's one nasty sandwich. Bologna, American cheese, and peanut butter… eeewwww

  • shit

  • OMG! Did I really waste 7+ minutes of my life watching this?

  • That was REALLY! good

  • There's an even more polished (more dramatic, funnier) stage version of this trick on youtube, although the picture quality isn't as good.

  • i know how he did it, so simple

  • America F@** yeah!

  • You can clearly see him pressing or pulling something at each trap :#

  • awww i was petrified didnt want my teller getting hurt!!! :O

  • Teller WINS

  • i know that if i found a bear trap i would poke it with a stick and it wouldnt go off so then i would hit it as hard as i could down with the stick and it would break off and my hand would get stuck in it, i just pictured what i would do and i know that would happen

  • teller= BADASS

  • I pulled one of these traps out of the river behind my house fifteen years ago

  • Peanut butter and cheese sandwitch, delicious...

  • the bear trap wasnt set

  • HOLY HELL! I almost peed at 2:54!

  • Did he really make a cheese and peanut butter sandwich?

  • what penn forgot to say is that this was really teller

  • Now THATS the kind of food that should be caught with those traps. Not helpless animals.

  • Holy hell, Teller can do anything... Trapeze? Now I'm attracted to him... Not going to lie.

  • Sweet

  • Teller.

    An unsung and silent hero.

  • Never having used or been around traps i remember when i first saw this being perplexed at how they did it. I'm sure if your fast enough quick enough you might be able to truly do these tricks for real.... But professionals usually don't risk their limbs so carelessly.

If you never used traps its a mystery but if you read up on them and watch the video closely. The trick is as simple as it is impressive looking :p

  • do young..,

  • I love these guys.

  • thier teachings are on par (in my book)with buddah and ghandi and jesus. these are truths that we can only hope our children will teach thier children. mostly because after a few years of blindly believing something, we come to know these things that we were so wrong about as second nature.

  • one mistake can cut your fingers off DAMN nicely done

  • I really want a sandwich because of this.

  • ... is that a bologna, cheese, and peanut butter sandwich?

  • in a weird way i so wanna try this

  • @randomist92 in a wierd way i also want you to try this

  • Penn's story makes it all the more epic

  • penn:it was really big.subtitles:it was really me XD these subtitles fail

  • 7:23 when Penn is diverting the attention up to him and the trapeze swing hes holding, teller pulls on the bear trap. I think trap was incapable of closing until he messed with it.

  • "I finally had a beer. it became involved. it was an end to it. a piece of americana. it was really me. a little rusty. the medicine. the more they could possibly Friday Indiana."

    Great subtitles.

  • @Preeemo LMFAO

  • that's teller's life story

  • Teller sure is a good actor.

  • Caption Actions > Transcribe Audio. Wow! who is in charge of making these subtitles? They suck pretty bad.

  • LOL. THE SUBTITLES MAKE NO SENSE. HE SAYS BEAVER TRAP AND IT SAYS "Thank you judy woodruff back to my parents". ROFL.

  • why is his nail on his left hand nail polished?

  • @forevergameslover IIRC, it's like a memento to his aunt, as she said if he wanted to do magic tricks he needed to have clean hands and nails. It's also a good way to misdirect people when he's doing magic tricks.

  • @forevergameslover Its a tribute to his mother

  • These subtitles are so bad., wow.

  • @D0g63rt Subtitles?

  • Youtube's closed captioning audio transcribe function. Turn it on and listen to what it thinks they're saying.

  • @MavisRileyJunior when you turn on the cc itsoff

  • @MavisRileyJunior when you turn on the cc itsoff

  • @MavisRileyJunior the close captions. They are awful. Maybe Youtube/Google should check their audio recognition software.

  • @MavisRileyJunior He means the captions, but it is not your fault, its youtube's fault.

  • @MavisRileyJunior He probably means Youtube's automatic closed captions

  • @MavisRileyJunior he is probably about the youtube-suptitles option

  • @MavisRileyJunior Transcribed audio.

  • Closed Captions.

  • @MavisRileyJunior Transcribe audio.

  • @MavisRileyJunior i guess he means closed captions. lol.

  • @D0g63rt the subtitles are just the google beta speech interpreter.

  • @D0g63rt wat subtitles?

  • @D0g63rt xDDD

  • @D0g63rt are you retarded?

  • This is so great. People today don't appreciate magic today.

For all these Youtubers bashing artists and magicians.

    Giving away secrets and accusations.

Individuals are slowly forgetting that it is a performance. Not something that you sit there and analyze. But rather a piece that we can enjoy. Magic is a great concept that we use and fool ourselves to make real. Fool ourselves to appreciate the work put into the performance and touch our hearts. We believe and connect.

  • the whole time i was like "bracing for epic!"

  • that was incredible all in the slight of hand ;D

  • @xXrerunitXx no sleight of hand, he's reaching through the trap where it won't catch him

  • lol that trick is so easy, :P it's impossible to get trapped , if you look closely he slides his hand underneath the jaw, this way it can't catch you.

  • Aww, that was kinda depressing! I was expecting Teller to get his hand snapped off or something! lol That's how it always happens, Teller's supposed to get 'hurt'.

  • He reaches under the jaws...when they snap shut, his hand is under them closing, Not in the way. Everything there was part of the act. Both jaws should be down flat but notice how one is always up just a bit. enough to reach in and out quickly and safely.

  • who would have actually paid to watch this?!

  • Umm.. YEAH! You dunce, Penn and Teller are basically the best magicians that there are. And they're hilarious!

  • I'm a big fan and this performance is one of my favorites. So perfect.

  • Great trick, but I actually found it quite difficult to watch!

  • oh my god, their very very talented. this is one of the most dangerous magic i've ever seeeeen! awesome!

  • @marypiscore if you knew the secret, its actually not that dangerous at all.

  • That was amazing. it kept me on the edge of my seat.. ok not really. but damn. KIDS DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!

    (because it will go wrong)

  • @Holret Justin bieber+ jedward can try this at home tho!

  • Oh my gosh, these two are crazy!! Good gosh, I was cringing the whole time watching this! lol. Ahh!

  • I know how to do it!!its hella ez

  • @poshi12 ??

  • is the short one a mute?

  • not really. just his character is. search teller and youll find vids of him talking regularly

  • no, it is part of the act

  • he just performs in mime

  • My dad told me that Teller was an english teacher before he became a magician. If it's true, that was one job change.

  • I think he was actually a latin professor. Still, what a change. Penn never went to college, but teller always had something to fall back on.

  • latin teacher actually.

  • Penn & Teller are geniuses

  • lol i was listening so close that i jumped when the first trap went off lol. teller is a speedy lil guy aint he?

  • No, he's reaching under the jaws. His hands are never in any kind of danger. He could stay perfectly still and wouldn't get hurt. That's why one jaw is lifted on each trap. Normally, the traps would be set fully down on both sides. Notice that the traps he reaches into aren't set this way, they're set with one jaw up. He just reaches under that one. The trick really depends on a lack of knowledge about the traps.

  • that's how a lot of tricks work

  • you'd think it would reduce the power as well.

  • Penn makes fantastic speeches.

He conjours up images out of the words.... and Teller isn't bad as well

  • Yeah I noticed that. You can NOT say Teller is bad with words. ;^)

  • Teller is one heck on an articulate guy. Check out Teller Speaks.

  • This video is like...trippin balls!

  • penn is a wonderful speaker

  • He's got a cool voice.

  • The speech sounds like one from a bond villain or maybe a psycho from a horror movie.

  • He'd actually do very well as a Bond villain. Great idea.

  • what really is "magic" anyway?

  • Perceived impossibilities.

  • cheating :)

  • its a horse flying backwards destroying cities with its pen0r because that would be the greatest slight of hand

  • They're reaching beneath the jaws rather than between them, it avoids the actual danger of the jaws clamping down on the magician. Great performance but simple trick, still a great duo.

  • as thrilling as that was that wasnt really magic was it?

  • @xyuuyanx there is a secret so yes it was a magic trick

  • Everybody is talking about some "Secret"... what's the secret? They learned how to get bait from traps very well, even added a nice performance to it. I don't see the 'secret'. It's a great demonstration

  • this is the only penn and teller trick i was able to see through. Its so simple!

  • Nice!

  • After figuring out the secret, it seemed so obvious, but i liked it better when i didnt know.

  • thanks for posing this... i think i will just stop trying to figure it out and just enjoy it for what it is.

  • teller is fearless

  • I don't care how its done, this scared the F**k out of me, seriously!

  • I don't get it. What is the point if you pull the bait under the loose jaw. Even if you keep your hands there, you still don't get hurt.

  • You have to be kidding. You were impressed with that? That was absolutely the worst WTF that I have ever seen. No wonder that moron doesn't speak.

  • most city people (which is most people) dont understand details of trap mechanics... so hell yeah i was impressed.

  • Well...that was an interesting little thing. Not sure if it could be called a magic trick...but Penn is definitely great at telling a story.

  • Teller is amazing!!

  • The trick to most of the traps is that the have to be pressed to set off, so if you grab from the sides, you are fine, because you are grabbing underneath of the "jaws" which teller sets off when he pulls back =D

  • Cheat: left hand @ 4:13

  • you obviously dont know who penn and teller are if you have to point out the cheats

  • true. verry true :P Yay for bear traps

  • oh my god I remember this one, this was awesome!

  • easy or hard those traps looks dangerous. and im sure there are risks

  • This was amazing!

  • lol most of u dont sound like u know what u are talking about it aint the button it is called a pan and the thing that goes over one jaw goes under the lip of the pan is called a dog and the last trap did not go off when he took the plate off because he did not use anofe pressure and there is no setings or screws on the bear traps to change the tension.

  • There's something oddly touching about this segment.

  • That should be some kind of diet, put all the food in animal traps. TAKE THAT ROSIE!

  • yeah they were grabbing though the trap for the first bits. How did they do the bear trap tho? that one was impressive

  • Same exact way, just on a trapeze. Also the story as far as i know was utter bull, just a nice story set up for their act.

  • The last trap was easy. You noticed it did not go off right? It was set on a more stiff setting. All you have to do is grab the bait from the top and not put any pressure on the button.

  • Extremly amazing performance, especially the story told along.

  • oh no not the poor Beer Can. It had such a bright future.

  • lol. I know how he does it!

  • Bad trick actually ;D Animals are stepping on traps from Above xD not from the side ;D hilarious ;D

  • i also know it... but dont tell the secret for people who liked it

  • It has wasted my time

  • this wasn't a very good trick... they're just taking the food from the side... ahh the art of deception.

  • tis a great way to tell a story though even if it might not be true.

  • What I love about this is how Penn has this amazing control over his voice and vocabulary to create this sense of drama. I'm in my school there's a new independent study theatre class where you basically write your ciriculum. And for my focus on vocal control I'm using Penn as my inspiration.

  • yess...

selling the trick is an important tallent

  • i..i... don't get it how was this a trick?....sure good story line

  • It's not intended to be, it's intended to be a stunt.

  • It's more of a performance art piece.

  • It's really not a trick ...or magic as I presume you are alluding to. Teller just knows how to trigger the traps without being mutilated. It's more like performance art than magic. Btw, Penn is not out-doorsy by anyone's standard. He hates the woods...I imagine this was written by Teller.

  • "It's more like performance art than magic."

All magic IS performance art. Always has been.

  • So true but there only appears to be a magic trick if you don't know traps.

  • Penn & Teller are the GREATEST!!! Bravo for being a unique act & having the courage to be unconventional. Also, you make Americans proud of being Americans due to your patriotism.

    Nelson Donley

  • If you've seen Bullshit! then you'd know what a dumb comment that is :)

  • lmfao! way to point that out

  • Don't think so. They did a show supporting the 2nd amendment. They did a show supporting illegal immigration. I don't agree with them on one (you guess which). But they say what they believe, and /that/ is patriotic.

  • I saw this performed live in their 'Rot In Hell' show in the early 90s. Absolutely incredible in person. The video doesn't do it justice. It's a great concept and a really cool way of telling a story, whether it be true or not.

  • I dunno much about the traps, but it does look like he grabs the sandwich from inside the jaws of the bear trap. Love the trick, it made me jump like hell the first time I saw it.

  • Oh, so this is why I don't like them, boring...

  • Poetic.

  • BEEEEEEEEEER LOOOOOOOOOOLXD

  • Enjoy 'magic' for the skills in deception and the brilliance to conceive it to begin with.

And enjoy the story of a brilliant mind finding its way to skills so few could master as it has.

    Awesome, 5/5.

  • ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz.......

  • these kind of traps weren't discontinued because they are cruel, but because animals learned how to cheat them.

  • lol those traps aint even discontinued matter what state u live in

  • Bravo, that was amazing.

  • This is my favourite of their tricks - i know it is simple to do, but the whole package with the emotional story that weaves the whole thing together is a work of art. it is not about the trick from teller but the full package that makes it so. they are truly masters of entertainment.

  • i love penn and teller but thats really not hard. if you know anything about traps that is a piece of cake. if you look closely he always grabs the bait from under the jaw.

  • Penn was king...and Teller is the one who does the traps.

  • its not magic its entertainment

  • i dont get how its magic?

  • It shows how good teller is with his hands

  • Teller is not at all being "faster" than the trap, he reaching UNDER the jaws of the trap so when it went off even if he didn't move his hand at all the jaws would get him, and for the cage on, he set it off with he left hand after he got the fruit. But for the record, i do agree with you that Teller is good with his hands, one of the most amazing slight of hand magicians there is, and on that note i would also say they arent magicians, they are entertainers because magician dont reveal secrets.

  • you are so right on that one. when you study magic tricks you can learn how they are done. most of the time you know how its done but its like watching a dancer you know how they do it but you still marvel at how they can perform such a beautfiful act. and yeah teller is definantly my fav magician i love how he doenst need all the talk and bull that alot of ppl go on with his is so pure...

  • Am I the only one who thought that sounded...uh...

Or am I just a pervert?

    XD

    Awesome trick!

  • Penn and Teller rock. ive never understood the magicians code, and they break it freely when they wish, and feel it would make for a better show. Knowing how the tricks done.. to me doesnt decress the power? of the trick. In many cases? it makes me admire them even more. To truely see the skill and timeing nessary amazes me even more then just the act its self. This acts good, not one of my favsof thiers but very nice.

  • We live in an age of science & hence disbelief. Sure your average joe on the street will be impressed by a trick, but he knows as well as the magician that it is simply an illusion. Penn & Teller are the only major magicians I know of that have taken that fact into account & make their acts even better by showing the audience the work that goes into the illusion. This in turn forces other magicians to come up with even better illusions, breeding the likes of Chris Angel & others. Bravo.

  • This freaks me out whenever they reach into a trap.

  • Everything is planned down to the slightest movement!

These two are among the greatest showmen of all time. (And way up there too)

  • was that a peanut butter ham and cheese samwhich?

i love messing with people by setting off my traps.

  • Wow, that was an interesting act, foreboding, exciting and had a very cool tone to the whole thing.

  • i love how they build up the impending (spelling) sense of doom.

  • hell fire im a trapper its no fucking talent or magic...just lift the loose jaw up...yall are dumbasses except for teh ones who actauly knew!!! and a trap will not break ur hand its made for holding not crushing u guys are dumb asses except for the real trappers here

  • SUCK A COCK U REDNECK FAG
