British assholes?...What the fuck are you? some kinda Neo-nazi?! If it wasn't for the Brits,The Bismarck Would have KILLED thousands more saliors,Espeicallay since she can fire at a ship from over 15 miles.
I agree, and you might also know that when the Bismarck began to explode and sink, the British sailors started to cheer and the George V Captain ordered them to attention, to pay respect to the ship and their fellow sailors.
The bismarck was NOT sunk by a bomb,She was Shelled down by the Royal British navy on May 31st 1941,A Swordfish took out her Propeller with a torpedo, and she became a sitting duck,The British opened on her and after 6 direct hits, the Great German battleship began to list, then finally sank.
Excellent research, my friend! I was on the deck of the George V when the Bismarck was sunk, and though she was the enemy,m she was still a ship and we respected her and her crew. She also had the largest guns of any ship before or since-26 inches, and she could shell a ship from over 15 miles away.

Reading the commentary of this video, I see we aren't any closer to becoming enlightened as to race. Race is a pigment of skin. All races given the same upbringing and same social-economic status, will have pretty much the same outlook on life. So I guess the colour of the skin isn't relative. It's your upbringing. If you live with hate, you learn to hate. pretty simple. You may now hate me for posting such absurd nonsense.

johnny horton sucks cock. WWII as well as every other european war of the past 2000 years was nothing but a product of the jewish infection of our homelands. its too bad we white gentiles are stupid enough to slaughter each other for the benefit of our zionist masters. if only there were a cure for this foul hook nosed disease . . .
Wow, what an ignorant fool you are! To say such things of a religion that is our lords. Ther are many religions I find problems with, but the Jewish people are not among them! Depending on where you are in Europe or America you should look at the true enemy of society and it is ignorance like yours!
need to clarify the Jewish faith and Roman Catholic faith are both that of the Lords. (FYI, Christianity is a branch off Catholicism). This is for "donaditu" skin color, religion, or anything else only means your different. Ignorance like yours means your actually stupid!
The allies worked togather and freely exchanged technology, producing rapid development and use of weapons & such. Why do you not hear of "allied secret weapons" ? They were made and put to use. Poximinty fuse, bazooka, chaff, radar jamming, A bomb, code breaking equipment, tank mounted flail, armoured personell carries and the list goes on. Technology evolves. And in Germany's case they had a hand full of aces, but the game was already over.
Yes the allies did work together! The USA and the UK stood shoulder to shoulder then as they do now!
This started when one of your countrymen made a comment that the USA are better than us at everything! So of course we than end up defending ourselfs! But that is just one fool and it in noway effects my love and respect of the American people
Bismark was a masterpiece of technology and engineering ingenuity. As so many other weapons produced by the Germans during WW2. Too bad their tactics and strategies at see were so retarded - most likely dictated by Adolf, the little corporal.
you mean like, radar, sonar, jet engines, the world wide web, the turbine, TV, aircraft carriers, steam catapults, angled flight deck, light landing system, trains, electric motor, battleships, destroyers. oh sorry these are all the best of British inventions
im sorry i didnt knew that, i should have look it through before posting it i guess but i've always been told he was canadian...one of the biggest phone company in canada is name 'Bell' after his name
and BY THE WAY ...Alexander Graham Bell is buried near from Beinn Bhreagh mountain, on his estate where he had resided for the last 35 years of his life.......
In Churchills memoirs he stated that the Bismarck used to keep him up at night worrying about her and she was the biggest threat to Britains supply lines even more so than the U-Boats were, Tirpitz and Bismarck wreaked havoc on shipping without an equal only by combined air and sea did Britain succedd in bringing this mighty vessel down.
Pocket battleships were the most deadly ships on the sea in the atlantic why else do you think Churchill sent nearly the entire Royal Navy to sink her, Bismarck and Tirpitz were extremely deadly and their optics for their guns were the best during the war period for any fleet.
Well neither the Bismarck nor the Tirpitz were pocket battleships they were true battleships but no better or worse than many others,as commerce raiders they sank few merchant men by any measure but especially compared to the more cost effective U-Boats,they were expensive white elephants . Their range finding optics were good but thats only part of effective gunnery their fire control was not terribly good compared to the systems employed by other nations .
Actually the german subs were the best in the war there torpedo's were reliable from the start to the finish and they were faster, better tactics and manned by far superior sailors.
American subs were unreliable and their torpedo's were duds mostly and didn't detonate they didn't sort that problem out till halfway through the war and still didn't get rid of the dud torpedo's every now and then.
Japanese subs were probably better their long lance topedoes were certainly the best fielded by any submarine arm but the IJN failed to use them as intelligently as the Germans did with their more modest boats .
I didnt say they did 'nothing' im merely pointing out that considering the huge resources used up in their construction and use relative to what they acheived that Germany might well have got more bang for their buck by building more and better U-Boats .
yes...in that regard you are right..the u boats where much more effective...but compared to other battleships the germans are the most famous and its not a coincidence that they are...remember they were small in quantity and outnumbered ..and the allies threw everything at them about 26 lancaster bombers...a number of subs ..battleships etc...against 1 battleship ..come on ...dont expect miracles then.
The point is the Allies could afford the resources employed, and besides the midget submarines and Lancaster bombers deployed against the Tirpitz were relatively cheap and easy to produce . Its undeniable that a certain romance has grown up around these ships but it is not always born out by the facts i don't think its contraversial to re-evaluate their performance, though some seem quick to take offence over it .
8 15" guns on Bismark against 9 16" guns on an Iowa class battleship the Iowas would dominate the Bismark class as they were less advanced in design being based on the WW1 Baden class and the fire control on the Iowas was much superior, they could target better and fire from greater ranges, the Iowas were better battleships in every respect, armor, armament, speed and radar were all superior.
Acutally, that Japanese Yamato movie is pretty good if you can get the DVD from Asia. Horrible subtitles. Yamato was bigger, but couldn't hit anything, and was chased out of Battle of Samar by Heerman's torpedo spread.
No resurces and no capazity with Tirpitz and Bismarck we drained our capazity completely no more money and steel for more and those ship were obviously way too easy to sink, 3 lighter ships or an aircraftcarrier would probably have done better...
But well this is all speculation. Bismarck was the greatest ship ever built and the fight was heroic.
Listen, I'm going off from ACTUAL INTERVIEW with an ex-Bismarck crew, as well as the findings of those scientists/explorers who found and did an analysis of the wreckage. The "bridge" was nevertheless vulnerable, which is why a shell landing there took out the top brass instantly, but the BOTTOM was thickly armored and multilayered from underneath so bismarck can take massive torpedo hits. Bombs and shells alone would not have sunk this ship. They FOUND EVIDENCE of explosives planted below
as the ex-Bismarck survivor told them. That ship did not go down on it's own by the incoming shells and torpedos of the attack British ships. As that crew member and the findings indicate, they were only "torturing" it.
What surprises me is that no further ships with similar features of Bismarck were made after this one sunk. Also what also puzzles me is why the Nazis never invested in building aircraft carrier fleet? It would have truly made life easier for them. Along with many other questions, this one still I could never find an answer to.
The Germans had the biggest ship that had the biggest guns
The Bismarck was the fastest ship that ever sailed the sea
well where to start? the old Hood was longer than bismark and displacement was similar, both had 8 15" guns and hood was faster 32 knots at WW2 refit. nelson and rodney had 9 16" guns so bigger and more. prince of wales class (5 ships) had 10 14" guns, so more guns again, King george V with 10 14" guns and Rodney with 9 16" guns sunk her
you will find she was sinking, as a crew member on board bismark said "she was getting lower in the water, always lower and lower" they did open the sea cocks but it only hastened her end she was already sinking.
I saw an entire documentary where they found the sinking ship and did a detailed analysis of the ship. A ex-crew member of the Bismarck was also accompanying the search crew. He told the whole story. His story matched up with the analysis of the scientist who sent a research underwater sub to assess the wreckage. Bismarck was not only the biggest ship but also the toughest. It was made to withstand torpedo hits with an extra "wall" underneath as if making a hull withing a hull.
Bismarck was also made of high citadel armour steel, far more than the destroyers of it's enemies. However, the bridge was still the vital point, and it is there where the biggest desperation came when it was hit as it instantly killed the top chain of command; apart from the rudder. The only thing that truly aided in the victory against this ship was that Swordfish plane's torpedo that hit rudder making it unrepairable and unable for it to escape, as it would make it go in circles.
After massive "torturing" of the ship, the next in "command" finally ordered to abandon ship and plant explosives underneath the hull to prevent the British from obtaining it. It was THOSE EXPLOSIVES that made the thing go under. Bismarck was the most capable ship of the war with everything on it's side, except LUCK. If that Swordfish had not hit the rudder, the ship would have lasted up till the end of the war (~ 1944, at latest ~Feb. 1945, assessing the capabilities of the Americans)
check the facts, she was sinking and the opening of the sea cocks and the scuttling charges only hastened her end. just like tirpitz she would have been sunk after being laid up in a fjord somewhere if she survived her attack, a useless and unusable drain on german resources and thats why only the U-boats achieved any success, against the might of the royal navy and RAF coastal command the german surface fleet was no match. then our RADAR, SONAR AZDIC and HUFF DUFF did for the U-boats
My dad served on the Battleship Prinz Eugen, escort ship to the Bismark. He was a Polish national so didn't have a choice after Poland was invaded. He wasn't overly impressed with the Bismark. I hope nothing like this ever happens again.
I love this song. It tells a story. A mighty battle ship that HAD to be dealt with.
I see a bunch of kids spouting off, but not one will mention that the Bismark was a monster and the HMS Hood stood up to it and lost. But damn if she didnt try..
Read your history before you badmouth the brits..them folks went thru hell during WW2.
Germany had the braun and fully intedned on using it. Im an american and damn proud, but for the lost brit souls..I ll say...God save the Queen.
I was until I read a post of them bad mouthing us. I know they went through hell, but that's NO excuss to talk shit about our country when we went out of r way 2 help then, even b4 we joined the war. Did everyone 4get we were sending them money and war materials? Also what about us: Ex- -911 then us going 2 iraq.. We were attacked by terrorists and many inocent ppl died. then were the bad guys 4 getting back?
Yes when you were attacked by terrorists we didn't wait a couple of years before supporting you . Its fortunate that we also had a great deal of experience in tackling terrorism that was partially funded by Americans,it took 9/11 to rob terrorism of its romance for to many Americans . While i am grateful for the men and material(which we only recently finished paying for, dont worry we wont be billing you for our help) lets not pretend it was anything other than enlightened self interest .
i enjoy your commentary on battleships. however, we us citizens have never thought of terrorism to be "romantic" if you can mention a us citizen claiming such i'd be interested on reading about it.
America is selfish, lol u must be joking ...U r so follish .. We give more 2 the world than any other country... We do more for the enviornment than any other country.. Don't be hating on us cause we have more rights, more money (lol we have more than they do even in a economic problem) , more freedoms. I think they are jelous, UNITED STATES THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!!!!! Fu** those As*holes who are jelouse, and talk shi* about us
the bismarck destroyed a whole fleet before going down and was attacked by ships planes and torpedoes submarines all at the same...was an unfair fight..but i dont think the song mentions that.
The Yamamoto class was still away of,but other Navy's had ship that at least matched the Bismarck the French Richelieu the Italian Vittorio Veneto's the American South Dakota's . The Bismarck class was good but not that good..the best 'pound for pound' battleships of the war were the American Iowa class .
I agree. The American Iowa class battleships (Iowa, Missouri, New Jersey, and Wisconsin) were the the apex for this class of warship. They first saw action in 1943. The Bismarck was a good ship but had she met one of the Iowa class she wouldn't have stood a chance. She would have been outmaneuvered, outranged, and outgunned. The Iowa class ships would have been able to open fire on her at a range of 24 miles; well beyond the range of her own guns.
i think the german ships had better aim though..they had a better aiming system..thats what happened with the english ships...and bismarck had bigger cannons also obviuosly. i dont think any ship could have defeated a germn ship..like german subs..they were the best of their time.
German ships were far from the best of their time their destroyers tended to be top heavy and poor sea boats, some of their cruisers had structural issues that saw them kept away from the open sea, their pocket battleships were a deeply flawed concept . Their subs were no better than most other countrys they were just intelligently employed in a large target rich enviroment .
They had the oppurtunity to learn the lessons of the early war years regarding capital ships(notably though not solely regarding AAA)and money and resources to lavish on what was a superlative ship .
why do americans always think that american products are the best...why dont you mention history military achievments of an Iowa (nothing) agaisnt a bismarck or tirpitz...(fended of a whole army) instead of hypotizing and inventing and reading what other americans wrote.
Firstly i am not an American and i don't think American things are automatically best either, but the Iowas were clearly superior in term of number and calibre of guns, speed and endurance and anti-aircraft capability . Secondly what did the Bismarck class actually acheive? one sunk on its first mission the second spent its war hiding in a Fjiord .
that's y we pulled out of n.k when we did we only had 26,000 soldiers there we wen't gunan start a war with a country that has more soldiers than we have civilian's
damn right america got where we r by kicking ass and taking names if u don't like it then go join some broke ass 3rd world rat eating country.....and btw..america didn't stop and start all war's china marched 500,000 soldiers to north korea over night
i give lots of respect to russia if that is what you mean......the were the onece that brok the whermachts back at stalingrad and operation baggaration......(i know they got lend lease....but still russian guts, american trucks) but then again why belittel any country that fought in WW2? it was more a war of Ideologi than a war of countrys
Love this song.

Churchill's pressure on FDR, and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor among other issues finally woke the United States.
They American the conflict in '41 and, among other things, provided John Wayne with a vast amount of material for future motion pictures.

So why all this USA vs bla...bla...bla...
And in Germany's case they had a hand full of aces, but the game was already over.
tplanefun 2 years ago
Yes the allies did work together! The USA and the UK stood shoulder to shoulder then as they do now!
This started when one of your countrymen made a comment that the USA are better than us at everything! So of course we than end up defending ourselfs! But that is just one fool and it in noway effects my love and respect of the American people
paddy6062 2 years ago
Bismark was a masterpiece of technology and engineering ingenuity. As so many other weapons produced by the Germans during WW2. Too bad their tactics and strategies at see were so retarded - most likely dictated by Adolf, the little corporal.

In Churchills memoirs he stated that the Bismarck used to keep him up at night worrying about her and she was the biggest threat to Britains supply lines even more so than the U-Boats were, Tirpitz and Bismarck wreaked havoc on shipping without an equal only by combined air and sea did Britain succedd in bringing this mighty vessel down.
kymsheba 2 years ago
Further more...
Pocket battleships were the most deadly ships on the sea in the atlantic why else do you think Churchill sent nearly the entire Royal Navy to sink her, Bismarck and Tirpitz were extremely deadly and their optics for their guns were the best during the war period for any fleet.
kymsheba 2 years ago
Well neither the Bismarck nor the Tirpitz were pocket battleships they were true battleships but no better or worse than many others,as commerce raiders they sank few merchant men by any measure but especially compared to the more cost effective U-Boats,they were expensive white elephants . Their range finding optics were good but thats only part of effective gunnery their fire control was not terribly good compared to the systems employed by other nations .
iroscoe 2 years ago
@ iroscoe,
Actually the german subs were the best in the war there torpedo's were reliable from the start to the finish and they were faster, better tactics and manned by far superior sailors.
American subs were unreliable and their torpedo's were duds mostly and didn't detonate they didn't sort that problem out till halfway through the war and still didn't get rid of the dud torpedo's every now and then.
kymsheba 2 years ago
Japanese subs were probably better their long lance topedoes were certainly the best fielded by any submarine arm but the IJN failed to use them as intelligently as the Germans did with their more modest boats .
iroscoe 2 years ago
then you know nothing about history..in you think bismarck and tirpitz did nothing.
futuramark 2 years ago
I didnt say they did 'nothing' im merely pointing out that considering the huge resources used up in their construction and use relative to what they acheived that Germany might well have got more bang for their buck by building more and better U-Boats .
iroscoe 2 years ago
yes...in that regard you are right..the u boats where much more effective...but compared to other battleships the germans are the most famous and its not a coincidence that they are...remember they were small in quantity and outnumbered ..and the allies threw everything at them about 26 lancaster bombers...a number of subs ..battleships etc...against 1 battleship ..come on ...dont expect miracles then.
futuramark 2 years ago
The point is the Allies could afford the resources employed, and besides the midget submarines and Lancaster bombers deployed against the Tirpitz were relatively cheap and easy to produce . Its undeniable that a certain romance has grown up around these ships but it is not always born out by the facts i don't think its contraversial to re-evaluate their performance, though some seem quick to take offence over it .
iroscoe 2 years ago
8 15" guns on Bismark against 9 16" guns on an Iowa class battleship the Iowas would dominate the Bismark class as they were less advanced in design being based on the WW1 Baden class and the fire control on the Iowas was much superior, they could target better and fire from greater ranges, the Iowas were better battleships in every respect, armor, armament, speed and radar were all superior.

No resurces and no capazity with Tirpitz and Bismarck we drained our capazity completely no more money and steel for more and those ship were obviously way too easy to sink, 3 lighter ships or an aircraftcarrier would probably have done better...
But well this is all speculation. Bismarck was the greatest ship ever built and the fight was heroic.
judassoftware 2 years ago
Listen, I'm going off from ACTUAL INTERVIEW with an ex-Bismarck crew, as well as the findings of those scientists/explorers who found and did an analysis of the wreckage. The "bridge" was nevertheless vulnerable, which is why a shell landing there took out the top brass instantly, but the BOTTOM was thickly armored and multilayered from underneath so bismarck can take massive torpedo hits. Bombs and shells alone would not have sunk this ship. They FOUND EVIDENCE of explosives planted below
atlanticl 2 years ago
as the ex-Bismarck survivor told them. That ship did not go down on it's own by the incoming shells and torpedos of the attack British ships. As that crew member and the findings indicate, they were only "torturing" it.
atlanticl 2 years ago
What surprises me is that no further ships with similar features of Bismarck were made after this one sunk. Also what also puzzles me is why the Nazis never invested in building aircraft carrier fleet? It would have truly made life easier for them. Along with many other questions, this one still I could never find an answer to.

excusemaker 2 years ago
In May of 1941 the war had just begun
The Germans had the biggest ship that had the biggest guns
The Bismarck was the fastest ship that ever sailed the sea
well where to start? the old Hood was longer than bismark and displacement was similar, both had 8 15" guns and hood was faster 32 knots at WW2 refit. nelson and rodney had 9 16" guns so bigger and more. prince of wales class (5 ships) had 10 14" guns, so more guns again, King george V with 10 14" guns and Rodney with 9 16" guns sunk her

WOW!
music4uguru 2 years ago
actually the crew sunk the Bismark, not the attacking British ships. They were simply "torturing" it, but not able to sink it.
atlanticl 2 years ago
you will find she was sinking, as a crew member on board bismark said "she was getting lower in the water, always lower and lower" they did open the sea cocks but it only hastened her end she was already sinking.
fairclought7 2 years ago
I saw an entire documentary where they found the sinking ship and did a detailed analysis of the ship. A ex-crew member of the Bismarck was also accompanying the search crew. He told the whole story. His story matched up with the analysis of the scientist who sent a research underwater sub to assess the wreckage. Bismarck was not only the biggest ship but also the toughest. It was made to withstand torpedo hits with an extra "wall" underneath as if making a hull withing a hull.
atlanticl 2 years ago
Bismarck was also made of high citadel armour steel, far more than the destroyers of it's enemies. However, the bridge was still the vital point, and it is there where the biggest desperation came when it was hit as it instantly killed the top chain of command; apart from the rudder. The only thing that truly aided in the victory against this ship was that Swordfish plane's torpedo that hit rudder making it unrepairable and unable for it to escape, as it would make it go in circles.
atlanticl 2 years ago
After massive "torturing" of the ship, the next in "command" finally ordered to abandon ship and plant explosives underneath the hull to prevent the British from obtaining it. It was THOSE EXPLOSIVES that made the thing go under. Bismarck was the most capable ship of the war with everything on it's side, except LUCK. If that Swordfish had not hit the rudder, the ship would have lasted up till the end of the war (~ 1944, at latest ~Feb. 1945, assessing the capabilities of the Americans)
atlanticl 2 years ago
check the facts, she was sinking and the opening of the sea cocks and the scuttling charges only hastened her end. just like tirpitz she would have been sunk after being laid up in a fjord somewhere if she survived her attack, a useless and unusable drain on german resources and thats why only the U-boats achieved any success, against the might of the royal navy and RAF coastal command the german surface fleet was no match. then our RADAR, SONAR AZDIC and HUFF DUFF did for the U-boats

It was war not a medieval joust, what would the Bismarck done to the unarmed merchant men on the convoys it had set out to raid? .
iroscoe 2 years ago
yes but my point is no one had anything to match with it// except for maybe japan's yamamoto...in a fair fight.
futuramark 2 years ago
The Yamamoto class was still away of,but other Navy's had ship that at least matched the Bismarck the French Richelieu the Italian Vittorio Veneto's the American South Dakota's . The Bismarck class was good but not that good..the best 'pound for pound' battleships of the war were the American Iowa class .
iroscoe 2 years ago
The Iowa class ships would have been able to open fire on her at a range of 24 miles; well beyond the range of her own guns.
schwabpm 2 years ago
i think the german ships had better aim though..they had a better aiming system..thats what happened with the english ships...and bismarck had bigger cannons also obviuosly. i dont think any ship could have defeated a germn ship..like german subs..they were the best of their time.
futuramark 2 years ago
German ships were far from the best of their time their destroyers tended to be top heavy and poor sea boats, some of their cruisers had structural issues that saw them kept away from the open sea, their pocket battleships were a deeply flawed concept . Their subs were no better than most other countrys they were just intelligently employed in a large target rich enviroment .
iroscoe 2 years ago
true, those ships r bad ass. They are also the frame work 2 some of r newer battleships.
LoneSoldier1992 2 years ago
They had the oppurtunity to learn the lessons of the early war years regarding capital ships(notably though not solely regarding AAA)and money and resources to lavish on what was a superlative ship .
iroscoe 2 years ago
why do americans always think that american products are the best...why dont you mention history military achievments of an Iowa (nothing) agaisnt a bismarck or tirpitz...(fended of a whole army) instead of hypotizing and inventing and reading what other americans wrote.
futuramark 2 years ago
Firstly i am not an American and i don't think American things are automatically best either, but the Iowas were clearly superior in term of number and calibre of guns, speed and endurance and anti-aircraft capability . Secondly what did the Bismarck class actually acheive? one sunk on its first mission the second spent its war hiding in a Fjiord .
