  • Ohhh... all I've got at the moment is a two-hundred dollar interactive R2-D2!

  • helo, i whant a r2-d2 , what you number?

  • helo,quero um r2d2 , qual é seu número?

  • Awsome great.

  • How Cute!

  • I would like to see one that has a spring or gas loaded lightsaber launcher, similar to a potato gun, that can hide under a panel. That way you can load one of those removable blade saber hilts into it. Or even better, these guys should start working on making the real thing.

  • what do you use as a power source

  • i could do this with my legos. smd

  • ....woah :O that's amazing.. One day.. :)

  • i need a beer tap in mine next

  • Great! now make a terminator I _ I

  • Can you show how to make a functional Thermal Detonator???

  • Comment removed

  • Hi Can I buy one of these R2 D2?

  • @europauluk

No, u have to do it youself. I'm working on at the moment actually!

  • Thumbs up for going to their website

  • so why not add a 3d camera to make it move on its own, to gauge depth perception. People have been using the xbox kinect sensor to do that. I would also like to see one with a video projector inside it :D The future is now people!

  • OMG! that's awesome!! i love R2D2

  • great, do you have plans and links for ordering parts?

  • "Oh there you were R2! And you've been cloned? How will I put up with all of you? Oh dear! I've been made to suffer, it's my lot in life!" LOL

  • i will buy one how much thats cool i will really buy you one could you tell me how mucho would it cost me i really want one

  • how do u make the dome

  • How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much? How Much?

  • @airskade 10k stupid ass

  • I've got about $3k in mine and its almost done. It depends on what kind of material you use. If your going to buy all aluminum parts - yeah, you can spend about 10k easy. But if you build the thing out of plywood inside and plastic styrene it can be make for under $4k. Looks and acts the same as the real R2. I've seen all metal droid right next to wooden and plastic ones at CV and you can't tell the difference. The wooden ones are a lot lighter and easier to move around.

  • Bah, I'd love to have my own R2-D2, but ten thousand? That's way too much for my taste. Maybe if I win the lottery..

  • @CaptainJaller Ten thousand? You could almost buy your own *ship* for that. ;)

Really, it doesn't have to cost that much. Some droids have been made for a few hundred bucks. It's all about how much you want to spend.

  • @millenniumfalsehood but whos going to fly it?

  • haha it would be funny if you could keep it, hey r2 get on the plane

  • A 10k garbage can? I love star wars but wtf for 10k it better clean the house and take care of the kids, oh and hack the atm machine.

  • very cool R2D2 s

  • lol

  • 0mg i soo need 2 buy one i will one day!

  • @narutoastro 60 cm and 30cm swooberde doober blieber fubber

  • @matstube13 thanks man

  • at 2:29, you mean Aluminium dude.

  • So make a 'Star Wars' R2-D2. As opposed to the other kinds that are out there???!!!

  • ill make one out of cardboard

  • ok ...i better start buying more lottery tickets.... I WANT ONE...NOW!!!!!

  • darth vaders going to be mad you are stealing his design and making profit, Im reporting you to darth vader oh wait he died

  • @KEVQUATRO1 you should watch the video it would help..

  • @KEVQUATRO1 About $1000-$5000

  • @KEVQUATRO1 they said around 10 grand

  • they should have it able to play cd music 2

  • Comment removed

  • These guys are geniuses. Man, I wish I could buy one from them; I'll bet a 3P0 would be even more than 10 grand!

  • @jordu1 yeah prolly a couple million or so since it speaks real languange and has about 20 more things to control than R2, not to mention the weight distribution when it tries to walk, which aparently is really hard.

  • does the front wheel retract? cos that wud be cool

  • Hi Steve,

Any idea where I can buy a slip ring cheap??

    Thanks,

    Lou

  • Does anyone of these R2 units have the retractable middle leg?

  • Some builders have added a mechanism that allows it to be retractable, but I dont know about these in the video.

  • I wish I had the money to build one...

  • you guys building those things are amazing. respect to you .

  • why do americans pronounce aluminium as if it's spelt aluminum

    (al-you-min-ee-um)

    they say it like

    (al-oom-in-um)

they miss out the ee sound

  • @J4K31 The same reason we say Porsche the way its spelled instead of (por-ch-ah)

  • great video i like it

  • That model isn't faithful to the original. If it was, it would come with its own dwarf, gasping for air and suffocating on its own farts while working it.

  • Wonderful!

I worked as an Actor in the first Star Wars movie and this is such an improvement!!

  • are you visible on screen? what did you play?

  • Comment removed

  • lol yeah right

  • which character did you act as?

  • who you played?

  • I got to get me one of those! LOL

  • this guy is an awful interviewer

  • i am currently in the dreaming stage for building a unit, i'm seriously considering a wooden frame instead of a metal one. 2-3-2 option is a must, periscope, whole nine yards.

  • great vid but it tels you shit about how to make one. actually it just says that its f.. difficult and expensice ( pls prove me wrong)

  • Assume job. I think his R2 might be a little better then the one in the movie.

As an electrical engineer, I have to say he did a great job. Very skillful.

    Kudos to the builder.

  • actually sorry to burst his comment with geeko knowledge BUT yes you DO see the parascope come out in one of the movies, episode 3 when r2 goes into spaz mode to destract general grievous, but non the less even if someone doesnt know EVERYTHING it doesnt mean his skills arent good, props

  • Wow you are king of the nerds. I can't believe you remembered that obscure fact.

Of course for us purest, I'm sure he was referring to the original 3 movies. You know the ones from the 70's and early 80's, before you were born.

  • Also... that shot you are referring to was CG... I think what he meant was that it's an accomplishment to get a working periscope to even fit inside an R2-D2 dome (trust me... it's difficult). :)

  • id add a chain saw to his arm and put a ski mask over his head and let him roam around my neibourhood

  • the question is how much would it cost to buy one?

    ten grand?

I would not want one unless it could do the middle leg thing 3-2-3

  • I love R2-D2! Bit creepy having one of those roam around my house at night though. I'd be a bit scared that'd come and make a noise at me then electricute me. Still awesome though!

  • usually its a Gnome in the R2 unit in the Star Wars movies

  • Not true man

  • Wow...just wow, this is amazing, I wish I had the skill to build this!

  • I want 1!

  • A garbage can and a salad bowl , DONE!

  • amazing quality!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • Where can i get instructions for r2s like on the vidio??

  • Are there any less expensive versions out there? You know, more like a prop that doesn't move.

  • oh yes, you there are plans out there where you can build one for under 1,000. The reason these are so expensive is because they are made out of all aluminum. The one i'm referring to would be made out of styrene plastic. Go go the group section on yahoo and search for the group r2builders. you can also try astromech . net

  • This must be where Disney gets their R2-D2s for Star Wars Weekends.

  • i want oneeee

  • a whatty bot?

    battle bot?

  • takes ages to load

  • Sooo.. loading...

  • wow that makes star wars really come to life its 1 word : AWSOME

  • I only know how to make an 'Indiana Jones' R2-D2, so this was very informative.

  • @BinkieMcFartnuggets I don't get it.

  • Maker faire was a lot of fun this year!

  • i cant see why they would cost 10,000 to construct...

  • 3 words: electronics and programing

  • Dosen't seem like the electronics are that advanced or complicated. The damn thing is remote controlled as well. All it does is roll, extend a telescope, open panels, blast a fire extinguisher. and spin its fucking head. It may be just me, but for 10 grand I would expect the fucking thing would do more than that. Also, it takes them 2 to 3 years to make one of these things. I really hope these guys don't plan on making any money from this with that sort of construction time.

  • The reason these are so expensive is because they are made out of all aluminum and all the extra gadgets they add.

  • Unless they were milled out of one big chunk of aluminum that wouldnt cost 10,000. An I pod is hardly a costly gadget.

  • lol the gadget i was referring too was not a $150 ipod. I was talking about home made gadgets that people send months planning and manufacturing for the rest of the builders. Those get expensive. But you can build a really inexpensive one for under a grand easily but it will made out of plastic.

  • a zune!!ha my friend has a zune and I always laugh at her..lol...thers nothing wrong with zunes, just...they're made y microsoft...lol

  • omg I would totally make one to be my iPod dock to follow me around my house as I clean!!!

  • They sell those

  • Yeah if I had $10,000 haha

  • Haha, no for like 750 there is one with a really bad projector and dock in it, not to scale as much as these though.

  • They should have at least installed some kind of projector, and remote camera/telescope. :|

  • Sadly 2 months in to the project it was outdated

  • well, it still can't fly and show holograms

  • YESSSS hes zune user

  • beep boop beep

  • It is really neat, but I have to agree with Shodian. What can it do and what a buttload of cash for something that seems to be decorative techno-art.

  • Wow really neat, wish they discussed though what all it's able to do. It also must be nice to have $10 grand to burn.

  • you there are plans out there where you can build one for under 1,000 and is made from styrene plastic. The one of the reasons these are so expensive is because they are made of aluminum.
