  • Im just wondering, whos singing the deep voice part?

  • @ItachiU29

    Me too...is that John?

  • Still into Duran Duran…

    ☆XQZD☆

  • funny vid but the song is so great!

  • video bit crap x

  • This is a band that was dubbed 'a kiddie/ girlie band' by the critics of the '80's, a band that would be forgotten in a year or two. The critics obviously aren't always right when they call something...

  • been a fan for 30 years.seein them again in may.cant wait,

  • Fuck me this is great stuff !!!!

  • my number one favourite song by duran duran!

  • I thought their first album was their best work.

  • i still have every vinyl they ever made imports and all single you are absolutely right about the cds and justice

  • One of the best songs these guys wrote. These guys MADE MTV. Don't believe any different youngsters. Sounds a lot like Muse huh? If you can find these albums on vynl, buy them. it's so worth it. Cd's don't do this band justice.

  • I have to say Simon LeBon is one of the great lyricist (?) out there!

  • I thought I had seen all the old videos of DD but this is a first for me. I love this band

  • Yes! Duran Duran! Love the song and video promo! Simon Lebon is HOT!

  • I've never seen this clip before! I like the last scene of the guys getting up from playing cards, and I get to see a view of John's cute butt! :) lol

  • Dear Simon - when making a video, it would be wise to remember the lyrics. He screw up in the chorus between the words waiting & taking. Example, he messes it up a bit after 2:14 when he's suppose to say "waiting", but watch his mouth at that part, it doesn't match up, looks like he went to say 'taking' instead.. But all is forgiven since this is one of my fave DD songs, it's amazing live & i love Le Bon. But wondered if anyone out there (pun intended) noticed his bad lip synching in this video?

  • @j7609 Simon can do whatever the hell he wants :) he's SIMON! He's my DADDY! :) LOL if he messes up the lyrics so what? :) I'm just glad they have videos that we can continue enjoying for years and years! :) loosen up a little!

  • @Gina97xls :) :) :)

You are such a sweet fan!!! Like my sister used to be. I loved John Taylor because she did. I was only 11 and I knew I was supposed to like some female singer like Kim Wilde or something but John was THE GUY!!!

    You made me smile.

    Ciao!!!

  • @Gina97xls i am loose (well, not like that ;) but you & other people who have replied to me here about this video shouldn't take my comment SO seriously. maybe you missed the part in my comment where i wrote;... "But all is forgiven since this is one of my fave DD songs, it's amazing live & i love Le Bon." i just think this vid is funny/cheesy. and yes, it's def. enjoyable too. i'm not so uptight that i can't get past the Simon's mistakes. mostly just wondered is anyone else noticed it too?

  • @j7609 Sorry dear - Simon LeBon is a Scorpio (dob 10/27/58), he doesn't screw up his stuff...

  • Comment removed

  • yes dear, i know when Simon's birthday is and that he's a scorpio. i've known since Rio came out. Simon was always my favorite. but yeh, thanks for the info. i know.

and acorrding to you, he may not screw things up, but just cuz he's a scorpio, that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes. we all do, no matter what or when our birthdays and signs are.

    cheers.

  • Wow! I've never seen this video! Thank you, I didn't even know they made a video for this song and it has been one of my favorite Duran Duran songs for years. Cheers mate!

  • I know I actually prefer their earlier stuff

    My Way-Careless Memories-Planet Earth

as they went on their sound got bigger and

more commercial sounding but I will love

DD forever no matter what and enjoy listening

    to all of their music!

  • Lol .. Simon has his "taking" s and "waiting" s mixed up! Great tune, love JT's bass lines

  • Damn..them lips, Simon's lips...Nicks lips! Nibble.....

  • Mmm interesting one this, judging by the outfits it was done during the video shoot for My Own Way...?

  • to dirtylarry69 - talent wins out and they (DD) were cool and then there was a long while when they weren't and now most people realise that DD were something special- brilliant lyrics, melodies, and video clips way ahead of their time and they could cut it live ! and remembering their interviews they had wicked senses of humour so you stick with em ! Hope you didn;t listen to all those people who bagged em and you went home and listened to DD instead ! Enjoy!

  • This is the shit....YoU new Duran x 2...

  • This band DURAN DURAN will never stop.

Thank God for that i cant stand all the crap we hear today on tv/radio/etc etc....

  • Oh to be close to Nick when he's laughing........

  • rocken 80's style

  • OMG, IT WAS 30 YEARS AGO!

  • @nenadgalaxy

    I know! I just feel....old :-(

  • At this point in the game I wonder where they got all the money for those very expensive instruments?

  • I took so much shit for liking them when i was a kid .but F it these old videos are classic

  • Friends of mine they said they were friends of mine

Said they were passing time more like a waste of time :D

    .....I love this song!!!!!!!

  • how can 5 guys look so damn good all the time???...ha...i know it's an older video but how lovely they are...:)

  • SimonsArena, do you own this video on cassete or something? Because at the begining I see "play" at hte top right hand corner.

  • Love that sound Andy gets with his guitar. AT, YOU ARE THE MAN.

  • Yeah, and his book is good too

  • Duran Duran is my favorite group by far. Very creative musicians and great performers.

  • guys, duran duran is a very well respected band within the music industry...they have influenced countless bands (one way or the other), and are known as good musicians, and basically are the main band credited for MTV's popularity....they definitely got/get their just rewards....especially from within the industry.......

  • Thank the Gods for YouTube! I hadn't seen this in years, literally. Wow!! Thank you for this! I too have been a DD fan (Durannie) for years on end.

Love seeing all the major long time fans here as well! Rock on DD!!! :)

  • Wow, this seriously rules, thanks for posting! Wonder if DD were considering releasing it as the 4th single?

  • i agree they are a fantastic band and still in my opinion. been a fan since the start and they deserve more recognition

  • You know, I always thought that there had been a video for this. I remember seeing them sitting all around the table. Somehow I thought it was some alternative version of Careless Memories. Man, this is fantastic to see this... thank you for sharing this!

  • Duran Duran were and are still an under appreciated band in my opinion. They certainly have their loyal fanbase of which I have been a proud part since 1982 but they should be in the Rock Hall of Fame and not a one off like the Beastie Boys !

  • LOL I love when they all start cracking up

  • Bloody awesome. Love Duran Duran. I think a lot of Duran Duran's songs from the first album and Rio that weren't released as singles were better than some of the songs that WERE singles. For eg. Friends Of Mine, Nightboat, The Chauffeur, Hold Back The Rain, New Religion. Although I loved Planet Earth, Careless Memories, My Own Way.

  • I Love Simon is this video my fav part is 0:56 when he looks at the screen and sings to us

  • This video isn't on the Greatest DVD, and if it is, the printed instructions given didn't show how to find it.

  • There are no instructios actually on the Greatest DVD. You can get the easter egg instructions by asking at most DD related fan boards.

However, you are correct that FOM is not on Greatest. I did have to check that. It is on one of their DVD's somewhere.

  • @SimonsArena

It's on the Re-Issue of Duran Durans first album.

  • @SimonsArena -I have it on their first album.

  • Where did you ever find this?

  • I believe this is now on the Greatest DVD somewhere.

  • bass line is always awesome....

  • Who is Georgie Davis?

  • He was an armed robber in the UK that was released based on the witnesses being unreliable.. he had a campaign, ran by friends, for his release essentially..saying he was innocent and the eyewitnesses were not reliable. Shortly after he was released he went back to jail for one or two more armed robberies

  • WOW Ok So now I understand the Georgie Davies line. Dunno why Simon would put that in there but I understand that line now! LOL Thx for that.

  • wow that's interesting thanks for sharin that with us.

  • Wow thanks for the explanation

  • One of the best DD songs ever. Such a great chorus, so catchy. Love it to bits

  • What a song! Wat a song! I saw them live in Belgium, early 1981, presenting their first album. Unforgettable.

  • I'm very jealous of you. :) I would have loved to have seen them back then.

  • lucky you :)

  • Thanks for answering. Even two pictures of this legendary evening in 1981 remain.

    Never to forget.

    P.

  • wow!!! my sister saw them in 84... i was only 8 but was heavily into them.

  • 8 but already into DD.. Astonishing.

Well, I'm 45 now and never really got out..

We were witnesses of a great music era (the one of new wave and the new romantic movement) that will never return but will always remain. Take this out of the eighties and there isn't so much left.

  • bass line is awesome!!!

  • same thing happens at 2,20, good spot dizzy

  • Haha at 1:17 he almost said "taking" instead of "waiting aw :)

  • a great example of what happens when a band is able to experiment and be creative..........love the synths with the rock guitars.Fuckin kool!!!!!!!

  • close the door....I've told you twice before

  • What a band.

  • WONDERFUL

i love this song, and being a die hard duran fan, love the video too

i wish i knew what they were laughing at

  • great song!!!

  • Where did you find this!!! Great song but a simply awful video. is there one of these for Sound Of Thunder as well???

  • DONNARCalt, the only ones I have found have been live cuts.

  • One of my favorite songs on the first album.

  • Me encanta la cinta en el pelo. Están muy modernos. Canción marchosa. Up Duran Duran.

  • Holy crap, I never knew this video existed!!

This was one of their songs that I always thought there should be a video to. And what do you know.... There is one for this song. The things you happen to stumble across on YouTube!!

I think this video would totally complete the first and original Duran Duran video album. You know, the one that came out in "82 or so with videos from the first two albums.

  • We simply didn't have room for it ..

  • Never seen this before, didn't know it existed. My fave Duran Duran song. Makes me me feel young. Ha

    Thanks

  • OMFG! I haven't heard this song in AAAAGES! Brilliant!

  • grrrrr i want simon le bon!

  • me too rogue! always one of my faves. awesome. hey hey!!!!!!!!!

  • WTF?!

I call myself a Duranie (still!) and I don't think I have ever seen this video!

Omfg.... thanks for posting this! How bloody brilliant! Love it!

  • Right on...I'm always a duranduran fan, as well. From 'fame/khanada' to red carpet massacre' lp...i'm still there.

  • like a song of a serial-killer

  • astonished!!!!

  • caught duran duran in houston and met a couple memembers.. they are still flippin' hot!

  • But seriously, is there any other band that ever sounded like these guys? Their sound is timeless.

  • absolutlely do agreeeeeeeeee!!!

  • Japan sounds like them a bit since they were an influence especially on this album

  • I still think their first album was their best stuff. Rio was great, but by the mid-80's, they were too showtime. This song alone beats Notorious, Skin Trade, etc...

  • playas del sur (Lima-Perú) en los años 83 y 84!!!

  • Great song retrieved on first album!

  • Esses caras são demais, adoro essa música e o vídeo é fantástico!!!!

    Duran Duran 4ever!!!!!!

  • I always get cracked up laughing at them on about 2:50.. I wonder what they were all laughing at.. Maybe one of the guys from Duran Duran will post and let us all know!!

  • Listening to this song is like a time warp back to the 80's when I was young, with burgundy hair, eyeliner and frilly shirts! God! Duran Duran, Simon, John, Nick, Roger and Andy...Damn! I loved you guys! And PEACE to my high school Buds! Lori, Christine, Marcie, Les, Eddy, Paul, Kelly, etc etc...Haven't seem you guys in over 20 years! But I loved each and every one of ya! Hope life is treating you good!

  • I'll never forget at school assembly circa 1982 when I looked round and saw 4 boys with coloured quifs and eyeshadow..I thought OMG its Duran Duran LOL, Brill band and loved by everyone , esp school circa 82.

  • I love this song. Don't they all look REALLY young? Early Duran was brilliant, I really love all of their early stuff. This song deserves more attention.

  • I luuuvvv Duran Duran!!! Simon was sexy then...is sexy NOW!! They are still hot!

  • Great find...I have never seen a video of this before. One of their best songs.

  • Effing fantastic song! and wow what a treat to see a vid I have never seen before, I have been a huge fan ever since I first heard Planet Earth back in 1981, AWESOME stuff.....

  • love the chorus harmony vocals

  • And I thought that I saw every DD video ever created. This is a hidden treasure, that they themselves might not even know about. Now U-Tube has it. What a treasure, and God do they look hot, as always-Especially Simon in his sexy military look. What a gorgeous hunk. These guys are the epitome of male sex appeal. Va Va Va Voom!

  • I wonder if it's Simon posting these rare video clips...hmmm...makes a girl wonder;)

    Well whomever is posting these...BRAVO!

    Very interesting to see!

  • All I can say is I wish I grew up in England during those early DD days!

Wow this video is like alterego DD!

I love it! Thanks for posting!

  • OMG! I have never seen this. I've been a huge fan since 1982-83. This is an amazing video. Thank you for sharing it with all of us Duran2 fans. Even after twenty something years, I still adore each one of Duran2 especially Nick.

  • And Simon looks fantastic!

  • This is such a great song by them.

  • This has never been put on UK VHS or DVD. Where did you get it? Please tell us : )

  • I had this tape when it came out in 1981 and played this song over and over again. I love it. So cool sounding even now.

  • Where did you find this??!? OMG my favorite DD song ever....

  • they look soo cute here! *sighs*

  • georgie davis is havin fun lucky he/she wonder wot its up 2 da diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirty mare lol

  • good times...good times.

  • omg where did you get all the clips?! i need those :D

  • this song is one heck of a briliant song...i seen Duran Duran live here In Sydney Australia 2 days in a row last month March 2008 at the Entertainment Centre and at the huge huge outdoor concert the day after and wow was if packed with 10,000's of fans from 18 - 40. Duran Duran you guys know how to rock so thank you for the awesome music and concert.

  • is this the most earliest music video of them?

  • I didn't even know this existed!! Bloody brilliant!! Thank you for posting it. I can't believe that after being a fan for 29 years (yikes!) this is my first time seeing it. I have made it one of my favorites.

  • something i've never seen... too cool!!

  • I loved Duran when I was 18 back in 1983....I've heard this song but it was the first time I ever saw this video at 43 yrs old...Damn!

  • We must be the same age ... it took youtube to introduce me to the video of what has to be one of their most under-rated songs!

  • We must be. I remember being 18 in high school back then!...I would say 99% of the kids were into Rock Music at my school....I was the first guy to come to school wearing eyeliner, Burgundy hair, and baggy New Wave suits and frilly shirts!!! I instantly became one of the most popular guys in school....total chick magnet! Oh the good ole days! Thanks Duran Duran for all the great memories! Oh...I failed my Calculas exam cause I stayed up all night waiting in line to get Concert tickets! LOL!

  • Try going to downtown Toronto in "New Romantics" gear .... there were certainly a few folks taking souble takes .... but defintely good times and plenty o chicks in the dance clubs at the time. While the rest of the world listened to Rush and AC-DC, we partied to DD and the like. Those were great times!

  • Get Out! Are you from Toronto?? Me too! I grew up in Scarborough!! But I live in Japan now! I'm not sure if you know the after hours Club that use to be in T.O. back then called The Kongo Club! I used to hang there a lot! Did you go to the DD Concerts at Maple Leaf Gardens back in March 1984??? Best memories of my life!

  • I actually frequented 3 after hours clubs in TO (1981-1987)...Bio-rhythm (Yonge/Wellesley), Voodoo (next to Bio-rhythm), & Twilight Zone on King/Spadina?? Also went to Klub Domino and Kongo as well.

    Concerts attended:

July 6, 1982 - Concert Hall (best one of all-Simon apparently performed with a torn knee ligament)

Few people knew of DD at this time (if you were tuned in to CFNY you knew of them)

Aug 18, 1982 (Opening for Blondie at CNE)

    March 5, 1984 at MLG

    Great times!

  • I went to the Voodoo club once. That was a long time ago, like 26 yrs ago. My girlfriend at that time was really into DD a few yrs before I was. She went to the DD concert when they opened for Blondie at the EX. What kills me to this day was that, after the concert (which I didn't attend) she called me to say she was going to the airport to see if she could meet the band members, asked me to come along but I said, no (dumbass). She met them, got a lot of photos. Missed a chance of a lifetime.

  • I'm a little bit younger than you, but I knew this song back in 1983- it was one of my faves. I was such a Duranie back then- I'm so glad to have found most of their videos on YouTube, but I would LOVE to get them all on DVD if possible. (I'm even considering buying "Arena", in spite of all the bad reviews).

Their 1st album was by far their best. 7 & the Ragged Tiger is 2nd IMO, then Rio, then the rest ^_^

    MeOw!

  • one just wonders where the hell this video's been for the last 27 years!

    thanks so much for posting.

  • DAmn! super rare huh?... Never even knew this was made... thought i saw all their early promo vids

  • God I miss Andy Taylor! :(

  • Bloody hotties.

And one of my fave songs.

I was SO chuffed when they opened with it in Melbourne in 2003.

  • i love duran! i have the FOM video!!

  • i'll be forever thankful to Nick and the lads for writting this song. love what the guy does with his synths through-out the entire DD debut album, especially the so called b-side.. look at this video's 3:07 and you'll understand..!

  • The keyboard style they used in their first album is great - it's not "in your face" keyborads but a classic background sound that makes the song great!

  • yeah! i so agree. i love it when people describe Nick's synths 'atmospheric' because they truly are. though i must admit that 'in your face' synths do also work at times, take Our Daughters Wedding as an example, if you'd like:)

  • i only thought they only made videos for the singles they release... interesting... anyway, nice find... thanx xD.

  • this is great, I have never seen this video

    thanks for sharing

  • This is a curious find. From the styling I would guess it was filmed about the same time as My Own Way. Where did this come from?

  • It was filmed after Planet Earth. Definitely before Rio came out. I believe it can be found on the Greatest DVD. I'll have to look to be sure.

  • didnt know it had video. i like the theme but i didnt suspect this.

  • I have never seen this video. Thanks for posting it!

  • This song is awesome. DD '81 was their best album.

  • I love 2:55. I wonder what was said to make them laugh like that. So cute! I love this song but sadly I had forgotten about it after all these years, it's great to see it again though.

  • one of my fave songs from duran duran

  • this the first time I see the Friends of Mine video, I can't believe it after all these years!!!!

  • i have always loved nicks hand.

  • I love everything from Nick..

By the way, who writes the songs of DD? Is it Nick?

  • All duran write the music, and Simon is the one who writes most of the lyrics.

  • wow i didnt know there was a video for this song. ty 4 posting

  • 80'S were my decade and duran duran were the beatles for the period. this song is one of my fav duran duran songs.

  • Got it from a very reliable source that this song was done AFTER PE...source said that it was done around the time of My Own Way (makes sense, they look similar in both vids), which was after PE. And no, I don't reveal my sources! LOL!

  • It was done after PE. I asked Katy. Although Simon has told a friend FOM was done first.

  • LOL,that was my "very reliable source!". Katy is a wealth of info. She even told me in a response email that "I have had an unusually high amount of questions about this".

  • this is a great song from duran duran

  • I miss the 80s everything was sooo much fun, i remember all the girls wearing tons of DD buttons....LOL...good times

  • I agree.....Even though I didn't live in the 80's, I miss it since I'm obsessed with the 80's.

  • All of them (except Nick, as always) are REALLY cute. I like it.

  • when did this vid surface? always was one of my fave duran tunes and always wished it was a single and a vid (needed a night version/12'' mix too!).

  • I always loved this song. hehe just remember me trying to copy Simon Le Bon's hair style. I always thought they had they finest chics in videos.

  • why do people say that it's unreleased if,their self-titled album has it,i just noticed right now when i went to look at my duran record

  • It is on the first album. The video however, was unreleased until many years later.

  • Oh i thought they were talking bout the song :) -_-

  • Nope. :) Just the video.

  • Simon's yummy on this video! Now I remember why when I was 11 or 12, I felt so excited watching these videos...Hahaha! My first crush! I still adore him, but through the years my admiration has become more quiet...It's like having an old friend...hehehehe. I'm happy that now they've been acknowledged as good musicians...Love you, guys...Come back to Chile sometime.

  • I remember this song being quite longer. The beginning always sounded like a helicopter landing. It sounds like near the end some of it was cut out too. But regardless, wow! I remember how much I loved this song in my Durany days. Thanks for the memories! (All my D2 LPs, 12"s, etc. are somewhere in storage )

  • Oh my goodness! This just happens to be one of my all time fave unreleased DD songs! I love it! And I agree...Simon (my fave) looks AMAZING in this video. I do disagree about it being before PE though...he, as well as the others...looks more like the time between ITSISK and the SATRT album. I could be wrong though. Doesn't matter...he looks AMAZING! Thanks for sharing this.

  • It is WAY too low budget for this to have been done AFTER ITSISK. It's even lower budget than Planet Earth!

  • Simon looks great in this.

  • wow.. never seen this vidio! thanks!
