  • Omg.....I made these yams yesterday and they were delicious. It was my first time making them and eating them. The ones in the can also looked nasty to me so I never ate them. I love how the candied mixture thickening up. Thanks monique and keep them coming.

  • for those that are confused this yam is the same thing as the red sweet potato. It's not the same as what Africans, Caribbean or Asians call yam.

  • That looks like sweet potato not yam.? Yam is brown and have a white texture.

  • Can I use light brown sugar instead of the white cane sugar?? Would the consistency stay the same??

    yes you can... brown sugar, whether light or dark, is white sugar with molasses... or you can do 1/2 and 1/2

  • I candy my Yams in a Pot boiling them in the sugar/butter/cinnamon/nutmeg/v­anilla mixture. I'm gonna try that whipping cream part like You did...

  • Does it thicken overtime? Could I add cornstarch if the syrup is too thin?

  • @unicqueky it thickens a little as it sits. If you want it thicker then yep you can add a little cornstarch. Sometimes I'll broil it for the last few minutes and it will make the syrup thicker and stickier and crisp up the edges of the sweet potatoes.
