Never noticed the bass cello before - now I can hear it there and it's nicely played.
My needs have always won out as an adult. Hence my abject failure in terms of any worldly successes.
Kind of miss the folky side of you now I hear it again but really enjoy the music hall sophistication and changes too - ever thought about combining the two styles?
Love it! You are great. your voice is wonderful and the lyrics are fantastic. For a minute there at about 2:15, I thought you were going to go high for a third time. Had me fooled. Very cool stuff.
Thank you Anne. Did I say it was nice to have you back on the Toob again? :o) Well it is. Loved your new song too, it was no nonsense, bitchy and great. :o) -Ron
Hi Ron, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, sorry I haven't commented in a long time...but I wanted to tell you that I have enjoyed all your videos this past year! I LOVE this song, it's so pretty and fun to listen to. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of you on YT this upcoming year :) Your Friend, Lori
Wow, sounds damn good, Ron! Loving that banjo, and great work with the layering, as I've come to expect. Looking trim, you been running some marathons? Holiday Cheers!
@mysticcynic Yes I been running and I tripped on a root some weeks ago and broke my damn finger in 3 places... still getting over that one,,, :o) Thanks Josef, and I know this might be beneath you but I think it would be great if you did a vid and gave us some accounts of your travels this past year... kinda Kerowac style :o) I meant it. It would be great. Later -Ron
Your wants are not always what you need but sometimes you need what you want to get happy!
I wish you always the luck to get what you need to be happy but remember this song: "You can't always get what you want" - so there are still negotiations to make!
Love it. I have a 5 stringer, but just haven't taken the time to get it down. Love the melody, the vocal and is that a harmonica I hear? Your phrasing is just so pro. Great job.
I just found this buried in my subscription folder!! Ron, this is great! I really liked both the song and your confident vocals. I'm just going to post this message and then hit the replay button a few more times :)
Hi Ruby, thanks very much and I am really enjoying those Passenger songs. You keep bringing all these great artists to my attendion, thanks. Oh... so we gotta send a serach party out for Josef or what? :o) -Ron
ron, my favorite line is "But for every road that's taken you'll wonder where the other roads lead". the stones sang, "you can't always get what you want". this song presents that fact via a warmer, simpler, slice of life conversation. the folk mood established by the banjo lends a satisfying whimsy to the mood. very nice chord changes within the structure. thanks for posting this one, chuck.
Oz, hi are you. Great to hear from you and thanks very much for stopping in. I hope all is well with you and I really enjoyed that poem you read the other day. Talk to you later. -Ron
Home run, Ron! The lyrics, melody, chords, and your usual unique instrumentation—everything clicks. And as others have said, exceptional vocal performance.
Great lyrics and melody! Love the changes and "wow" on that recording! Some of you guys record sound better than the big labels. You produce a sound that's more authentic, warmer... great music! Suze
Thanks Suze, and the big labels want that "sanitized" sound with everything perfectly balanced and played... but that usually takes the life right out of the music. Thanks very much. -Ron
I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said Ron, this original song has it all. I put it in the "banjo vocal" list on the Songwriters Collection Channel...Kathy

Really lovely, Ron - beautifully written & performed and pretty appropriate at this time of needless excess. Also, an extra star for being the first YouTube original I've heard with 'ingenue' in the lyric. Years ago, a friend tried to catch me out on the meaning of that - after he'd bought the K.D. Lang album of the same name. I triumphed, however, having come across it in a Balzac novel whilst still in school. lol. So, that's 6****** I owe you :p Cya!
Hi Stu, Thanks and I hope you are getting the Christmas spirit now. I am :o) Yes, and I knew a "real" ingenue, or so she seemed so to me, haha. Thanks again.
Great song, Ron, and fantastic arrangement. I like the bass on the two, Paul-like, cause everyone else plays on the one, but you did it!!!! Great! And the melody on "...that you should always go where you pleased...", beautiful!

Thank you Richard, and thanks for mentioning John Harford because he was one of my very favorite artists. I loved his folky way of playing the banjo which was totally different from the Bluegrass players. Thanks. -Ron
Hi Ron,
I have to admit that the title of this song caught my attention.
It was fun to hear you sing this and play the banjo.
Is there an instrument that you DON'T play? : ))
Great work.
