I rented a Forte last summer & liked it so well, I'm thinking of buying one now. It rode very well for a small car. Also, I personally think Civics are kind of ugly but think the Kia looks sharper on a lot of levels. The Civic hybrid is about as ugly as the Toyota Prius.
I love this little car. A friend just got one & seemed well built. Living in San Fran, a small car is the only way to go especially if u want to park it. It has a great warranty, safety features & peppy good sized engine. So what if it's Korean. For those of us old enough there was a time not long ago when Japanese cars were unreliable & a joke to buy. Things change n evolve. Korean cars are selling at a faster rate every year. The more options we have the better for us.

@LastXdeth Well Korea doesn't live off our mutual trade as they restrict foreign produced cars from being sold in their country. Where I'm from,(Ontario, CAN) we have the US3, Honda, & Toyota plants. The pittance Honda & Toyota pay their employees does nothing for our economy. To save, they put their plants in rural areas with small populations. GM has contributed greatly to our large community over the past 60 years. Honda & Toyota do nothing. All their money goes back to Japan (after taxes)

Can't believe that Kia has gone a long way from the dragged to the draggers. They are distinctively stylish to the point of revolutionary and evolutionary of their tedious forms and inspiration and they are evolving in terms of quality and value. can't wait for the Sportage, Optima, and Sorento to dominate! The Soul and forte are already proving such. This is a very stylish and unique looking car.
I test drove a Forte yesterday. It was sunny, but it wasn't too hot. It rained 3 hours before. When the salesman pulled out the car from the lot, he had to turn the AC all the way up because it was pretty hot inside. I sat in, it was still hot. I put my hands over the vent but it didn't feel cold. After the test drive, it wasn't hot anymore, but I didn't feel cold either. It is only May, I wonder what it will be like in August. Is the AC just really weak? How about heat?
I think the forte is 10x prettier on the outside, and the drivers interface is way better too. the civics 05' and up model is annoying with the speed being on top...
This car has a very attractive design and it is a good car, no doubt...However, I would rather preffer a Hyundai Elantra, since this last is more confortable, taking in consideration the Suspension system in Forte is Mcpherson (front)/Torsion bean (rear), while the Elantra features Mcpherson(front)/ Multilink independent suspension(rear).
strange, I have an LX with split folding rear seats and the center armrest, and basically all the other EX and SX options except leather and heated seats. Not complaining
For people who thinks that this car looks like the Civic, you know nothing about cars. If you cannot tell the difference between two different cars, you are good as those people who could not be bothered about cars. You think you know cars? You know nothing.
so you know, the new civic and the forte were both designed by the same guy, which is why they do look alot alike. We got a better looking and functioning version of the SI's interior in even the LX model though, for less money

@TourDeSomewhere actually i know alot, and i can tell that kia stole design que's from the popular civic to appeal to those that want a succesful looking car "civic". Just face it its a cheap and fake civic. Plain and simple its a FAKE CIVIC dont deny it. I can clearly tell the difference but forte is gay. Only chinese market copies cars, but i guess not anymore.

I remember working on the 2000 and 2002 Camry's and Accord's on their transmission problems. Just cause Ford had a bad number of years doesn't mean that they're bad currently. I've driven someone's 2008 Ford Fusion and that thing is great. The build quality is great, good ride, spacious. I can't think of anything wrong with it. Its not sporty but that's not what we're looking for here. Anyways my point is that every manufacturer made a bad number of cars at some point.

Although similar to Civic, I think it looks better from every angle. Both sedan and coupe are so much more sharper and more mature looking. However, I HATE the hard plastic dashboard. That screams cheap to me. To make it worse, it leaves scratch marks very easily. I test this on one. Was very disappointed scratching my almost nonexistent fingernail on the dashboard left a permanent mark. Not cool. It did feel fairly roomy and comfortable inside though. Not a bad car, just too cheap for me.
I working with Kia on the Forte and wanted to clear up the comments regarding safety. The Forte achieved a 5-star crash rating which is as high as it gets. In addition to the positive reviews it has received, NADA Guides also named it car of the month this month for among other reasons, safety.
Wow so many people who think they know everything. No, Kia is not japanese, yes, I do shop at walmart and will defend it to the end because I'm not an arrogant self righteous prick. Now back to the car and MY honest opinion. I think Kia/Hyundai have definitely matched the "big japanese two"'s reliability and surpassed their value. But from a newly converted VW guy, and just judging by this video, I think they copied the Civic a bit too much in the styling dept. and fallen short in the interior
i think kia needs a car that will get it noticed, like hyundai's genesis sedan. overall this car looks nice but it does look similar to the honda civic, and im not sold on the quality of this car.
It may look similar but if you see this car in person, its a bit wider than the civic and more attractive than the civic, over all i would get the fully loaded KIA Forte SX model that has173hp and cost the same price as the 140hp base model civic. what other car offers so much at $18,000? ah and dont forget that kias are very reliable too and come with 100,000 mile warranty.

the windshield of the Forte doesn't go as forward as the Civic, personally I perfer the Forte's exterior over the Civic ... but the interior dash is kinda boring and busy looking, espeically the centre dash needs some rethinking in the Forte.

I'm pretty surprised by this Kia, it actually looks pretty attractive. The interior looks good too, and it starts at a pretty damn good price.

in 2008 consumer reports rated ford #4 worst car company. the best were Honda, toyota, subaru, bmw and nissan

the windshield of the Forte doesn't go as forward as the Civic, personally I perfer the Forte's exterior over the Civic ... but the interior dash is kinda boring and busy looking, espeically the centre dash needs some rethinking in the Forte.
