@mrpez01 Im not a huge sax player, but i do play violin and piano, and from other people, learn alto sax first. Alto plays in treble, the high notes. The kid here is playing an alto. hope i could help!

I heard the tenor saxophone is better for jazz than alto. The alto apparently doesn't give room for personalizing your sound, which is why tenor is better. Is that true?

@jaymesam1 your right but in prolly the most retarded way possible. any sax can be considered "jazz". Jazz is the style you play the music. Baritone, tenor, alto, or soprano could all be a "jazz" sax if they play a jazz style of music.

How do you get that sound from your saxophone? Is it only with professional ones? I have an intermediate one currently.

@shinryuken0 You should be able to get the best tone possible out of the intermediate horn before buying a professional alto. Upgrade when you begin to feel limited by the instrument. Your tone depends on the grasp you have on your sound concept and the goal you have in mind. I play on a very similar setup to Adam (Yamaha 82Z with a JodyJazz HR* 6) and have played all three levels of horns throughout my development. It's definitely beneficial to transition as I have advised.
