  • Another documentary trailer that we'll be watching for 3 years and the dam thing wont ever come out. Im still waiting for the "No Place Like Home" lower east side documentary... dam..

  • The only thing that hit QUeens was mega immigrants. Id rather be surrounded by immigrants than transplanted trustafarians.

Real new yorkers have parents in NYC before the heroin epidemic or crack.

When shit calmed down and crime rates decreased, people flock to new york like flies to shit.

Native New Yorkers know what time it is.

  • great video!! short & clear message.. is from Nov 2007.. so what's the situation now.. has it stagnated, better, or worse?

I've never been to NYC.. the only spot in North America where I touched the soil was LAX.. changing Lan Peru for Air New Zealand. I don't even dare to admit to my crime here haha.. we had 3 hrs to kill, there was nothing else to do, so we were hanging around at Starbucks!! sipping cappuccinos.. imagine when you're just post 4 months South America on 99% Nescafe only!

  • Don't worry. Now that the financial industry is crumbling before our eyes, every person worth a damn who ever migrated to NY to work in this sector will leave thus allowing the city to revert back to the crime-ridden shit hole you miss so much.

  • @soilworked86 some how this all makes sense

  • it's for nothing but this city is digging its own grave now that the economy is collapsing

  • NYC has been changing conssitently since it was stolen from the Natives. When was the city ever having a consistent culture for more than ten years? Things change. It is the pattern of all major civilization capitals since Jordan, Jerusalem, and Yemeni. Humans want what they hesitate to work for.

  • It's the first time in history that globalization has had an impact on major U.S. cities.

  • Get a clue. NYC was essentially the same from day one, primarily working class, until the current reverse white flight brought you yups in by the tens of thousands.

Name one other period in time in the history of New York when people had to move OUT of the city because of poverty.

  • Wrong. "Day 1" would have only consisted of the wealthy settlers and migrants. Every decade was different from the the next if u actually grew up in NY you would know. The change is gradual but constant. Ppl BEEN moving out because this consant change (increase in NY prices). Why do you think the suburbs exist. "sub" "urban". Many native italians, jews, irish, and blacks moved to Nassau and Suffolk county. Many moved north to New Rochelle , Westchester, and some to Jersey.wheres TREMONT?!!

  • You still didn't answer my question, "name one other period in time in the history of New York where people had to move OUT because of poverty."

I was born and raised in NY and I will die here, so take your yup rhetoric somewhere else.

  • HaHa..."Get a clue"??, Gay rock bands in your profile. Hipster related videos. YOU SUCK!! Know I see what this is...Just an angry hipster migrate fag venting and projecting. I told you one of the many examples of ppl moving to burbs is Tremont and what Robert Moses did to it. Look it up already.

  • GENTRIFICATION is what is ruining the old neighborhood charm.

  • why can't new york be like it was pre-guiliani..the dinkin's era lol? i remember when tourist used to walk around in fear...now they feel so sure and take up space in the already crowded streetsl..oh the agony lol

  • New York had a lot of character way before Dinkins was in office. Since the late Nineties it has become safer, but the soul is fading away due to the expansion of chain stores like Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, and Jamba Juice. Why visit New York City as a tourist if they have the same stores in their own cities? It's boring, it's cloned.

  • NYC is turning into another boring shithole with the same stupid places. Why would someone come to NYC when they can go to Mcdonalds and Walmart at home? Nothing exciting about the city anymore.

  • It is boring. National Geographic Traveler just published an article about "The Real New York" and what's left of it. Places like Keen's Steakhouse, one of the last of the Mohicans.

Unfortunately, the young generation doesn't respect the history of New York City. They prefer Starbucks and Pink Berry chain stores. Just take a walk to St. Mark's place, these so called punk rockers buying Pink Berry.

  • Yup, I am native New York and its sad. I live in Brooklyn now. I'm young and I value its history and culture. Its sad to watch. Everyone must read Jane Jacobs "The Death and Life of Great American Cities"

  • @Arias3523Ram Yeah before Guliani cleaned everything up. That city was so trashed and crime filled before him. Now it's better than it's ever been.

  • This is happening all over the US from big major cities like NYC to old towns founded by Colonialists. Everything looks the same now and BORING!!

  • amazing film!

  • Thanks! Be sure to check back for updates and send the link to your friends.

  • send me one plz

  • New York born and raised for 25 years. New York is still the greatest city in the world but it's definitely a police state. The cops are racist thugs licensed to kill. Also the diversity sucks in NY. It is segregated big time.

  • In my film, Curtis Sliwa says cameras are going up on every corner. It's absolutely true. Cameras will be on every corner, Big Brother is coming.

  • i'd like watch the full thing sometime. i've never been to NYC and i'm planning a trip there soon. i've wanted to go there ever since getting into the 1970s NY punk scene stuff and music. sad thing is, none of what made NYC so cool in the 70s is there anymore. i feel like i've totally missed the boat on anything cool, artsy, and punk. i'm still gonna go though.

  • When you come here, you will see how the city is quickly turning into anywhere, USA.

  • yeah, that's what i'm worried about :(

  • I'm not a resident of NY but I get up there whenever I can and I really hate the gentrification of places like Coney Island,

The Lower East Side and other places,

I mean sure no one wants Times Square to go back to being like it was during the really bad old days of the 1970s, But do we really want Disneyland or LasVegas down there?

    Is it only a choice

    between those two extremes?

  • Be sure to tell your friends to watch the trailer!

  • this looks very interesting

    plz send me the dvd

ashame about 9/11 the twin towers made new york look very nice even do it still is

  • Can you send me the dvd? That would be great. What are you doing with it?

  • yeah if you need any foootage / help from me in Bushwick/Greenpoint/Williamsburg let me know.

  • Really good!! Hey, are we doing the same film? This is on a lot of people's minds. I wouldn't be surprised. We should all join forces in a coalition type of way.

  • The film is already complete, I can send you a DVD if your interested!
