Haha, the weird part is this replaced the identical 3.8L in the 2003 Windstar and that made 200 HP, WTF LOL?? Never understood where the power loss went. The only thing this had was more Torque than most of the competition in it's day but it still was a slow.
wow I didn't know that... Seems like the Freestar was a rushed response to the redesigned 04 Sienna and 05 Odyssey at the time. The powertrains were incredibly lackluster, I'm not surprised Ford gave up on the minivan market. The flex is a cooler and better people mover anyway
Yeah it was best to drop, but I hear something about a comeback with a Grand C-Max after the 2012 Focus out. It's Kinda like the Mazda5 with 3rd row seats.
@xoquixxoqafxo the original UK engine was only rated at 140bhp, but was conceived in the late 60's, but then again the Essex V6 in the UK became almost as legendary as the Rover V8, Used in many cars, But then again, the Essex was lugging around about 1.5 tonnes of metal at most, and in the case of some cars, less than that in fibreglass. But she doesnt half shift with about 200 ft lbs of torque in that engine.

Whats the diffrence between the 3.8 and the 3.9 also how is the 4.2 diffrent from those? Id like to see some stuff on the 4.2 i mean 260tq! Not bad. I like the Freestar and the Montary a lot sad to see them go. Id love to see how an all new Freestar would look today.
I do have some vids of a 2004 Monterey 4.2L 100+ video back LOL. Really no difference in power ( 3.8 vs 3.9 ). Something about bore and stroke working out to 3883 cc so they just rounded to 3.9L.
I had a 2005 Ford Freestar SES and It drove fast and The acceleration wasnt slow at all

@demonblues oh yeah, and it was a 3.0 not a 3.8 like this and was half designed to be a diesel, which can be seen in the dished pistons
