grooving and slapping on a six string fretless bass

About that ebay auction... I'm looking into possibly buying one of that guy's basses(I found this video through it), and I was wondering if you think his basses look like they'd be decent? I've been wanting a fretless, preferably six stringed as I'm a guitarist and four strings feels very weird to me... I would much rather have a larger range, and his basses are seem to be priced quite reasonably. The seller has great feedback, 97%, and his 4 negative ratings were resolved with full refunds.

@Warheart11 I can't find the ebay auction pages you're talking about anymore, but I take it's still the same guy. Well, I haven't tried his basses, so, please, don't hold me responsible if anything goes terribly wrong, but they actually looked like they all came from the same factory. There might be some differences, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be anything relevant. Nevertheless, do you have a link for those auctions? I've found one which is exactly like mine, but it sells for a 400+

@Warheart11 price tag, which is preposterous. Ok: I've found the one with my video embedded. They look similar, very similar. The fingerboard does not look like ebony, but rather rosewood, like mine's. The pu's have no exposed poles, which is a difference, but not necessarily a flaw. The price tag is not very encouraging: I got mine for 200 euros, which is a bit cheaper. As usual, it's a different currency and, all in all, even at 300 § you'd still have a great bang for the buck.

If your fingerboard isn't epoxied, you DEFINITELY have to do it.

it doesn't effect the sound too, too much, but you can then beat the hell out of it with slapping, rounds, axes, machetes, anything you want.

you could even use it as a canoe paddle if necessary...

I know for a fact that both Ernie Ball and Dunlop make 6 string bass sets but I'm not sure about other brands. Just go to the brand's website and check out their list of gauges, you should find if what sets they make; from there personal preference takes over.

What strings do you use?

these were still the stock strings. anyhow, they are just ordinary steel strings, gauge 130-105-85-65-45-30. anyhow, now i've been stringing it with labella hard rockin' steel for quite a few months, and they work beautifully. very balanced and clean sounding strings.

I have a 6 strings too and obviously is not the same as a 4 strings because of the distance between the strings...
