Yes, like I said. They probably missed some things and even incorporated some aspects of their culture into their American lives (food, music, etc.) but they wanted to be Americans first and foremost. Otherwise they would not have come here. Heritage is one thing but loyalty is another.

Ive already been a victim of Mexican police corruption in Nuevo Laredo. I was given a "ticket" for $500 for something I didnt do. Of course it had to be in cash and payable immediately (which conveniently went right into la policia's pocket the moment I handed it to him). I dont think I want a repeat, thank you very much.
If the Mexican authorities treat ME like that (and Im an AMERICAN), what makes you think they are going to treat Guatemalan or Salvadoran illegals any better?

No they arent right. But the beauty of her case is this: shes not in the US anymore. If people want to leave this country because they have an affection for another nation - I say Vaya con dios to them and good riddance.
And one thing you dont quite see with our immigrants (regardless of legal status) is this: whatever affection they have for their old homeland, that country- in some significant way - FAILED THEM! My heritage may identify me, but it does not DEFINE me or my opinions!

Yes, like I said. They probably missed some things and even incorporated some aspects of their culture into their American lives (food, music, etc.) but they wanted to be Americans first and foremost. Otherwise they would not have come here. Heritage is one thing but loyalty is another.
My current girlfriend is an immigrant (legal - I checked her green card lol). There are some things she no doubt misses from the old country, but that doesnt mean she wants to be LESS of an American.

The problem with it is the fact that we have not tried to assimilate our current immigrant population into Americans. We should ask the immigrant to divorce their home nations and become one of US. As a matter of fact, we as Americans are in the position to DEMAND IT! Unambigious loyalty to this nation should be demanded of all immigrants or they should go back. If that means if they get icy stares for speaking in their first language rather than English for the rest of their lives, so be it!

The average American is hurt by illegal immigration by both depressing the value to their labor and cheapening their citizenship into something "thats nice to have but not necessary". If we treat illegals the same as citizens, why would anybody want to take the trouble to become a citizen if they receive the benefits either way?
