As a way to make more show accurate toys, this could have been okay, but man... talk about missing the point. You know, the name is TRANSFORMERS, and if you take out the main gimmic of the toy then you sort of missed the whole idea. *Smacks forehead*
Thankfully, when the ball joint became more common in the Generation 2 and Beast Wars line, Transformers toys had articulation AND the ability to transform. Plus, it made it so you could just pop parts back on if they came off.
Remember seeing these things when they first debuted and thinking that THIS was exact moment G1 had run out of gas. I mean seriously. Transformers...that don't Transform. Hoooo boy... -.-
Transformers are suppose to be three toys in one: A Vehical, Weapon, or Animal, a Robot, and a puzzle. Actions Masters just removed 90% of what made Transformers good toys
@GoldKnightProduction That's what I'd say too to Prime if I was an autobot! I'm not giving up the ability to transform for a power upgrade! Power upgrades come and go but being able to transform is what make the Transformers different from other robots! (except for the Gobots)
Marketing Guy at Hasbro: "Guys guys. This will save the line that's been struggling now. Trust me. Get this.. now brace yourselves.. Transformers that don't transform!"
Reaction from Hasbro execs: " Umm what? 0_o But they are called Transformers!"
Marketing guy: "Yeah I know. The irony is great. I'll get right on em. Great stuff.. it will save the line!!" *leaves room*
Hasbro Execs: "Did that just happen? Who hired him in the first place? He's the CEO's son? Oh."
Copy Boy: Well how about we reinvent the Transformers but they still transform only we have them turn into animals instead of vehicals and call them Maximals and Predicons.
Hasbro Execs: You know that's not half bad, who are you again
Other Guy: Oh I'm copy boy
Hasbro Execs: Never mind (six days later)
CEO's Son: Now I know sales of Action Masters are bad, but they're bound to pick up
Hasbro Execs: Yeah...you're fired, now what was that copy boy's idea again
@dynomitis What's even worse is that the explanation to the loss of the ability of transformation was in the comics. They felt more powerful, more _alive?!_ Gee, I wonder how you manifest that in an inanimate toy?! If I want a robot that won't transform, I'll stick to Lego's Exo-Force.
I had the Prowl action master. The bike he came with turned into some sort of battle station if I remember right. Better than the actual figure, which was rubbish!
"with their battle droids" -BUT! They're already awesome warrior bots! Oh my, I remember this age and being sad for my transformers as they fought their greatest enemy: uncontrolled mass marketing of a line whose show (at least in USA) had been cancelled.
@sku110ne It was a cash-in on the popularity of G.I. Joe style figures where all characters could interact with the same vehicles and weapons. The only mistake was to market them as the only Transformers toys at the time. In Europe, we had reissues of 1984, 1985 and 1986 toys as well as new molds, some of which that Japan also had. I believe Transformers would have lasted longer in America if the same toys that Europe had were released there as well.
think this is what finally finished off the G1 line in the U.S. I mean look at them, they can't really be called transformers anymore

I agree with you fellas, that whole "giving up the power to transform to feel more alive"?!? There was no logic to it.

Why would you want to give up the power to transform?! On a planet where you need to stay incognito, no less?!
