  • We've got an old Peter Wright that would like to visit the moon. Currently, we consolidated our reloading with 452AA, but have others available, some dating back to the 60's. This would be a fun draw to our neighbors who also own weapons and would not be terrified to the sound of gunpowder.

  • I laughed so hard at their unnecessarily complicated anvil recovery technique. A shovel?? AW HELL NAW!

  • I'm calling BULLSHIT on Looney Tunes.

  • poor anvil...

  • what would happen with smokeless powder? would it wreak the 1st anvil

  • heres an idea instead of blowin the fuk outta those anvils why dont you give them to aspiring blacksmiths.its such a waste of a good thing

  • @bigaxe87 name one aspiring blacksmith you know.

  • @MauveBovine me lol

  • @bigaxe87 now ask yourself is this is a real issue, or if you just wanted to say something to feel important.

  • Is its not very dangerous ??? <;o)

  • I think two people must have got hit by falling anvils.

  • Thanks for posting! How far does it usually land from where it is launched?

  • this is an epic win in every right

  • Awesome!! gotta try this at home XD (just kidding)

  • Where the hells my camera?!

  • outa sight

  • Why the HELL dosent Nasa use this Method again?

  • Heh, that thing makes a hell of a noise on the way down. Scary!

  • holy shit wow

  • "Where in the hell's my camera?!"

    Lmao.

    This is awesome.

  • Interesting hobby. Quite impressive. High speed film of the thing actually taking off would be interesting.

  • That's one way to bury an anvil

  • i bet it hits that wiley coyote guy, that motherfucker is always getting pounded with anvils.

  • Saw the same experiment on old tv show from the bbc showing power of gunpowder.

  • btw why isn´t that sport olympic?

  • That's an anvil shoot. Ya baby fly.

  • Catch it!

  • so thats how old men gets def.

  • dude... i want to do that ... and dig it back up! CAUSE THAT LOOK AWESOME

  • I knew that was a breechblock from my Navy days, interrupted thread gave it away. You need a metal detector to find the anvil after it embeds itself in the earth.

  • I love the way it got embedded into the ground. I bet it was at terminal velocity or close to it.

  • I cant believe you guys dont have something better to be doing..

  • Are you shooting with black powder or something else? What is the weight of the charge?

  • FFFG black powder, 2 lbs. each shot.

  • What machine part is that anvil sitting on ?

  • We use a WWII Navy 8-inch gun breechblock for our launcher-it already had a 5-inch diameter hole in it where we put the powder, and a grease hole coming in from the side where we put the fuse.

  • Thats some funny shit right there .

  • wow

you guys totally own gay wilkinson's record

  • The last one must have gone to the moon and back.......

  • going by an estimated hang time of about 10 seconds you are getting that thing around 800 feet high... not bad

  • Hmmm, one of our tables must be off. When we timed it we got 11 sec. and the book showed that was about 500 feet.??

  • @cannonmn The math is trivial. This would be for 11 second flight time.

    (0.5)(9.8)(5.5^2) = 148.2 meters = 486.3 foot high shot.

Max velocity in feet per second is 3 times the square root of 2*9.8*148.225. Or 161 feet per second, AKA ~110mph.

I think 800 feet high guy was just guessing (poorly).

  • @jimmybilbo good math skills

  • I wanna see someone turn one towards a car and see what happens.

  • These guys are getting some serious air time!!

  • I can see it now... the captain of an invading force says to a lieutenant- "What in the hell are they shooting at us?" L- "Anvils sir!" C- "Anvils?" L-"Yes sir, Anvils, like Acme anvils from the Wile E. Coyote cartoons sir!" C- "Good god, we've invaded the Warner Brothers Studios grounds..." -Captain palm slaps his forehead -

  • @jiro9cuts0001 ... and then proceeds to run like hell. No good can come from invading the Warner Brothers Universe.

  • Bwahaha!!

  • Big kids!

  • I think what's most impressive is that you already have the rig to retrieve the anvil from the ground. Good show!

  • pretty cool

  • Is there any concern that unseen fractures might develop in the anvil from the repeated explosions it undergoes, and that it then might crack or shatter and produce some shrapnel during a later launch?

  • No, if you look close we've welded a 1/2 in. thick mild steel plate to the underside of the anvil, covering the entire high-pressure area of the laucher, and more. If the plate is somehow damaged it can be replaced.

  • Man you are my hero....

  • faggot you ripped off my name

  • oh my god lol

  • hahaha u crazy hicks... i love it...

  • this is the stupidest thing ever, well done i need to try this, and has anyone ever tried a safe or a fridge or somthing else quite blunt

  • A safe maybe but I don't think a fridge would survive the blast.

  • have you ever thought of tying a parachute to your anvil so that it doesn't sink so deep into the ground?

of course, you would only want to do that on a day with little or no wind... you wouldn't want a gust of wind to drift anything that heavy towards you or your house.

  • No, the name of our game is to get the anvil to land as close to the launcher as possible-you get high scores for that,

  • after i posted i realized that the parachute would open on the way up and bring the anvil down prematurely.

i hadn't even considered trying to get the anvil to land close to the launcher. it's probably just as well that i don't have a spare anvil... i'd be trying to land it as far away as possible. :)

  • Beautiful anvil firing. Most of what ive seen has only been 10 to 15 feet. Superb job.

  • Okey, this is awsome. But i am from sweden so why do you shoot anvils in to the air? what did it start with? dont get me wrong i like it.

  • It began as competition between local blacksmiths, as I understand it. Search for anvil shooting on u tube and you will see a lot more, and some experts such as the one-eyed man in Mississippi (or Alabama?)

  • Ah okok:) thx for the info! keep it up with your movies!

  • They were shooting them in Scotland in the early 1900s. Probably before that.

Just think. If you put a bunch of guys from anywhere any time together, add whisky, anvils and gunpowder and a touch of boredom. How long will it take them to blow something up?

    Nuff Sed?

  • This was to answer Sarsgnu's question below.

  • @raiun42

You know it brother - been there - got it done!!!

  • Our 110 lb. anvil normally goes about 500 feet, we don't want any more, too damn hard to dig out of the ground.

  • how high do you think the anvil went i was watching tv and some dudes went like 550 feet

  • This is better than piano throwing!

  • the guy lighting the fuse is getting plenty of exercise

  • NOW THATS AN ANVIL BLASTING!!!!

I was watching this other guys video and the people standing around watching were all shocked and amazed that the anvil was going an amazing 4 sometimes 5 feet in the air...if ya can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch is what i say...good job and PLEASE.....be careful!

  • there's nothing like getting out in the country making loud noise & blowing shit up.looks like fun.

  • I didn't know anvil launching was such a well known sport... you even have the tools to remove them from the ground?!?! Nice vid!

  • The 110 pound anvil buries about 30 inches but depends on how hard the ground is.

  • how deep did they embed themselves in the ground?

  • this is the kind of video I don't need to see. I must get an anvil now!! DAMN you youtube!! Too cool.

  • Yay Cannonman!

  • good show, the third shot there was a plane in the air, you should try to smack it.

  • Nothing like a good day at the "anvil Range"

  • 1:41 "Where the hell is my camera".

*LOL* Poor guy, missing out on a once in a lifetime chance to capture a flying anvill on tape..

This is about the best thing one could do if you are bored. NICE!

  • lol run :O

  • you can bet your sweet ass ill try that shit

  • Too bad you couldn't predict excactly where it was going to land. You could have it crush a junky old car or refrigerator or something.

  • Man, you guys must of busted your ears.

  • tee hee!! Do this again only with a dead horse or cow!!! am i sick?!

  • lol do you see the guyin the black shirt on the right of the screen His Running Like hell

  • I wish I could do this...

  • lol, nice job guys

  • Verrry Cool, but wouldnt want to be there when it comes down, thanks anyway.
